Heya, peoples! This is Vice-Captain, the ADHD ninja himself, Distracted Assassin Koji! ninja

...

Okay, enough ego stroking. 4laugh

This is my review of Saber Marionette J:

Saber Marionette J is a series based on the manga (Japanese Comics) by Satoru Akahori. It takes place on a planet called Terra II. 300 years in the past, Humanity had overpopulated Earth. Colony ships were sent out to try to find suitable planets to move people to. One of these such ships, called the Mesopotamia, suffered a serious tragedy in which almost every one on board perished. There were six survivors of this horrific event who managed to escape via escape pods. They realized that, with no way out, they had to repopulate the planet. There was one small problem...they were all male.

With no females to help insure population reproduction, these six men resorted to, via the technology that they had available to them, using each of their strains of DNA to create clones that would populate the planet. Basically, all the clones were going to be male due to the fact that the Y chromosome was so hard to create from male DNA alone.

How would a race keep from slaughtering each other if it were all male? This problem was fixed in the form of creating androids called Marionettes. Marionettes could take on the look of the human female. However, Marionettes were incapable of showing emotion. They were mainly used from then on either for heavy labor of as status symbols.

300 years pass. Terra II is now populated into numerous countries. (Japoness, New Texas, Gartlant, Peterburg, Xi'an, and Romana.) We meet our main character to this story in the country of Japoness. His name is Mamiya Otaru. Otaru is a young, teenage boy living on his own in an apartment complex. He works various odd jobs and studies martial arts in town.

One day, Otaru, while exploring, a museum dedicated to the memory of the human female (Don't Ask!), he stumbles into a basement that holds a pod. Inside this pod is what appears to be a Marionette. Otaru accidentally causes this pod to open awakening the Marionette inside. This Marionette is known as Lime. Lime is a little different from other Marionettes. She can actually show emotion, due to something, revealed later into the series, as the Maiden Circuit. This basically acts as a soul for Lime. She demonstrates this in the first episode by latching onto Otaru and telling him she loves him.

Otaru decides to take Lime to live with him. Lime exudes a child like innocence that makes Otaru crazy sometimes. Lime only tries to do things in order to please Otaru, but that can sometimes backfire when Lime's curiosity gets the better of her. (Talk about ADD. 4laugh ) Lime becomes an instant hit with the people of Japoness because of her being able to show emotion. She gains more favor with the people by rescuing the little brother of one of the son's of a shop chain owner. The ones responsible for the fire was a gang of thieves that had been attacking various shops in Japoness. These thieves are dealt with by a group of three Marionettes that belong to Faust, the Leader of Gartlant. These three Marionette show emotion just like lime. These three are known as the Saber Dolls: Tiger, Panther, and Luchs (meaning Lynx in German).

Anyway, later on, Otaru and Lime go to take a tour of Japoness Castle. While there Lime accidentally breaks a national treasure, which causes a goofy chase scene all throughout the castle. Anyway while trying to hide, Otaru and Lime end up in a secret room with the shogun (Funny enough, named Tokugawa Ieyasu, the name of one of the six survivors. He is a direct clone) As the shogun spend some time with the group and alluding to knowing about Lime's origins, Panther shows up in an attempt to assassinate the shogun. Otaru tries to protect the shogun, only to be hurt. This spurs Lime into action, with her and Panther fighting on equal footing. During this fight, Otaru ends up awakening another Marionette that was hidden in the castle. This one's name is Cherry, who has a Maiden Circuit and the ability to read an enemy's moves and weaknesses.(She is kind of like the stereotypical Japanese housewife except she looks like a young girl. She tends to have perverted thoughts show up in her head whenever Otaru praises her for something.) With Cherry's help, Lime manages to damage Panther, causing the Saber Doll to retreat. Cherry takes to Otaru just like Lime did. Faust ends up punishing Panther for this, because he never gave an order to attempt an assassination on the shogun.

A little later in the series, Otaru awakens a third Marionette with a Maiden Circuit named Bloodberry. Bloodberry is dressed like a kunoichi, and is the strongest of the three Marionettes that stay with Otaru. She is also the bustiest of the three, something that she loves to use to aggravate Cherry. She is also very overtly sexual when it comes to Otaru, often saying she vows to "make him a man." That causes a lot of hysterical bit between the three, mainly with Cherry being solely against anybody but her being with Otaru, and Lime saying she wants to do the same (but not really understanding what that means.) This kind of thing occurs over all kinds of things throughout the series.

Anyway, I will wrap this up. This review covers only the first 3 episodes.
There are 25 episodes in this series. Followed by an OVA (Saber Marionette J Again), another tv series (Saber Marionette J to X). These cover the series revolving around Otaru.
There was another series (Saber Marionette R) that takes place about 200 years after J. It focus on a kid from Romana named Junior, and feature different Marionettes that are still named and have the same personalities of Lime, Cherry and Bloodberry.

Overall, this series is fantastic. The story will draw you in with fantastic dramatic and comedic elements, as well as great plot twists . You will become attached to all of the characters by the end of the series. The animation is very dated as compared to today's level of animation. The voice acting for this series is better on the Japanese track. The English acting is okay, but they don't seem to convey the personalities of the characters as well. This series is out in a boxed set through Bandai as one of their Anime Legends series, which I personally feel is very fitting.
I would give this series a 4 out of 4. This is one anyone can enjoy despite the aging of the animation.

Check it out. You can get the whole series easily online, on eBay or whatever way you choose to. I am not saying I condone downloading anime on torrent, but I'm not saying anything against it either.*wink wink*

It's not really that new, but I get what you are saying. It just got little to no TV play. That's why it didn't become popular in the US like it could have. The same thing can be said for Air Gear, the next series I'm going to review. I think if more people hear how good series like these really are, that will get more people to watch these series.

I know there are a lot of cult series that more people need to know about. That's one of my goals with starting this section of the guild, to get the world out. People need to know there are other series that are worth seeing other than shows like Bleach, Naruto, Deathnote, FMA, DBZ, Gundam, Code Geass, InuYasha, and all the other series that were shown on channels like Cartoon Network. I'm not saying these shows are bad. I just think people hold these ones too highly, that there are series that are just as good that Cartoon Network passed over on.

Sounds very interesting. So the marionettes are not like for sell or anything, they are a secret to their survival? It is a unique perspective heart
