Codail sighed and stretched, thankful for a quiet moment. She'd managed to keep little Ngoma from going off and doing something silly again. The Shepard was certain her niece would break something if she didn't exercise a little more caution. She settled onto a mossy rock, enjoying the quiet for now. Life was good...

A home that fit her and Muscail, a loving mate, cubs she was proud of (even if two had left her to make their own way in the world), beautiful nieces and nephews, and...she was a grandmother! That thought made her smile widely. She was no Crone, but she WAS a grandmother, and that filled her with even more pride in her cubs. It didn't surprise her Caide was first, with his inquisitive nature.

The little cub wriggled in the bushes, trying to stay as low in the ground as he could. The mist of the jungles helped hide his ghostly frame, but he wanted to make sure nobody saw him. Oh yes, he'd be a stealthy and crafty creature, for all his tiny size. Or at least that's what he imagined.

His prey had been targeted. She was unaware of his presence and was resting upon a mossy rock. Stifling his giggles, Ciqala quietly moved forward, slinking and trying his best not to make any noise. Surely she wouldn't know what he was planning, and that her tail was going to soon be his 'meal'.

Hahaha!

Grandma wouldn't know what hit her until it was too late! He accident steped on a twig, making it crack beneath his weight. Well . . .better pounce out now before she turned around! "ROAR!" Letting out as loud a roar as he could (which really wasn't all that aggressive or intimadting and sounded more like him saying ROAR than anything) Ciqala attacked. He bounded out of the light foliage, trying to bat and chew at his grandmothers tail.

Unfortunately, the rock was kind of big and far too tall for him to actually pounce at. But he leapt and batted and tried his darndest to get some piece of his grandma. Ha, she'd be so proud. . . He was a fierce hunter, wasn't he? "Did I scare ya gramma!?" He asked under threat of a growl still leaping wildly up at her. Again, it was a pitiful attempt, but he tried.

The middle-aged lioness smiled slightly, having heard the twig snap, and then faked a startled twitch. She looked back at her grandson, trying to bat away at her tail. Chuckling, and backed up JUST enough that he could get at the morning-mist colored fur at the tip.

"I do believe you did, Ciqala! Quite sneaky you are, my dear. Quite sneaky indeed!" His trying was so adorable. And he had plenty of time to learn to be truly sneaky. He was, after all, safe in the pride, hidden behind mists and illusions. "Practicing to be a great Hunter or Ghost or Warrior, little one?"

Ciqala was none the wisers to his grandmother's ways, and continued to giggle as his little paw caught the very tip of her tail. This only made him scramble even more widly, trying to bat at it and catch it with his teeth. Unfortunately, that just wasn't going to happen. A bit spent but content at the notion that he had caught her (even if it was just a little) he huffed and puffed as he beamed up at Codail.

He scared her! She just said she'd been frightened and he'd even noticed her jump when he pounced! Wouldn't his parents be proud? Puffing out his chest lightly, he tried to look as big as possible (which wasn't very big at all, unfortunately) and the little one couldn't help but smile. "I'm gonna be all three, that's what," he stated. He wasn't sure which he wanted to be more, a hunter or ghost or warrior, but for now he'd pick all three and see what he became best at. "I may be small but I'll be stealthy," he added, breath caught before he trotted to the front of the mossy rock. Occasionally he paused, leaping at the rock and hoping to find a small landing to perch upon. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.

. . .stupid big rock. If it were smaller he could leap up and cuddle with Codail. As it was, he could only hope she got the message. "You'll be proud of me Gramma . . . and all this practice with your tail will be worth it!" He giggled, green eyes bright.

Codail nodded. "I'm already proud of you, little Father." She moved herself from the rock to the ground, so she wasn't quite so high up. "In my old pride, we had something like all three. He took the title of 'Father'. He was a very well-respected lion, good at hunting and hiding and protecting. He lead the other males of his age, and was kind, but firm."

She remembered Anamuil well. And she missed him. But she had a new family now. And one she was, indeed, very proud of.

The little cubs ears twisted and turned as he focused on what his grandmother had to say. The title of 'Father'? He forgot about his game of chasing her tail, and instead his brows knit and he tried to imagine such a title. It made sense, even if he had always reserved such a title for his own family. "He got to lead others? Wow, he sounds like a good guy."

And that was the truth! The brown splotched male couldn't help but give a smile as he realized that it might be possible TO be the best of the best. If he really was a good little hunter, and a good little ghost, and a good little hunter, why couldn't he take on such a title? Of course, these were just smoke dreams, but at the moment they seemed real and Ciqala always did feel as if he had to make up for his petite size. He was pretty small compared to his siblings, including his sisters, and he always wanted to show them up in personality.

Just a little bit.

He loved his family dearly though, and was oblivious to some of the genetic disabilities that ran through his blood. Family as family, and it never occurred to him that they were different or unusual. He loved them all, each and every one, including his most beloved grandma! Puffing out his chest a bit, the young one trotted over and rubbed himself against her legs. "Well, I'll make you even more proud. Just wait and see. And maybe . . maybe someday I can lead others too. Wouldn't that be neat?" He wasn't exactly leadership material, but he was also very young yet.

The old lioness smiled. "All of the Fathers of the Draíocht Coileán were very good males. We respected them, and they were family." Her smile grew as he spoke, and she nodded. "It would be very neat, indeed. I think you'd do very well." She moved to groom his ear. "We would all be very, very proud of you. But remember that leader or not, so long as you do your best at what you can, I will always be proud of you, Ciqala."
