Shoshana stepped through the ever growing grass. Spring was making an even more noticeable touch upon the earth breathing life back into the world. Birds sang, beez were buzzing about busily looking for some of the newly flowering plants the spring brought with it.
Cabriole wiggled his butt as he leaped through the air, trying to perfect his landing. However, out of the five leaps that he had performed, he had crash landed four of them - tripping over his own hoofs, flinching when his mane got into his eyes... He was not a talented dancer. All the qualities he had observed and admired in his parents were not in him. Luckily, he had inherited their singing talent! This moment of distraction, however, caused Cabriole to lose his balance in mid-air and land on his bottom - his sixth crash landing this morning. He blushed as he got up, his dignity hurting more than his bottom.
"At least nobody was there to see it happen..." The male muttered to himself, "That would be embarressing..."
As she walked along, she spotted what looked to bee a leaping foal. Shaking her head some she thought she had imagined id having not been getting much sleep in as of late. Still she continued on her walk, though her feet were carrying her towards the direction of the foal now out of curiosity.
"And again," He muttered, leaping again. This time, however, Cabriole made sure that his leaps were lower and shorter - he had to start somewhere, after all! However, after his second successfull take off and touch down, he found himself tripping over his own hoofs as he was making his third leap and ended up as a heap on the soft ground, carpeted by fresh, moist grass. Sighing, the colt picked himself up again... Only to realize that there was someone approaching him. He turned a little red; she hadn't seen his little accident did she?
Her ears were alert as usual as she stopped just short of the foal. She hadn't noticed any tumbling though by the discuraged look on his face she'd guessed he was feeling a bit embarrassed by something. "Hello." She smiled a normal friendly smile. "It's a lovely day isn't it?"
"Hello," He replied with a smile of his own; from the looks of it, she didn't see him do anything embarrassing! Feeling relieved, he nodded at her next comment, "It sure is! I think Spring is awesome, although all the snow in winter was cool too." He giggled after realizing that he had made a pun, albeit a really lame one, and continued with a grin, "So... What are you doing out here?"
"Wandering, exploring.. I seem to rarely stay in one place for too long." She smiled and even giggled some at the pun. "I rather enjoy finding new and interesting places. I'm Shoshana by the way." She nodded a small greeting. "But you may call me Sho if you like."
"Sounds exciting," Cabriole commented with a curious expression, "I had been following my father, and then recently, my mother came back so we've been moving a bit as well. I think we're going to join up with this herd near the mountains... An old friend of my father." He paused, flicking his short tail when he noticed how long the mare's tail was in comparison; will his grow to be just as long when he grows into a stallion? That would make leaping - and not tripping - even harder! At the thought, he frowned a little, but quickly brightened up again at her introduction.
"Sho it is then!" He smiled, "I'm Cabriole Amachi, but please call me Cabriole! I enjoying singing and dancing although I can't really do both at the same time..."
"It will just take some practice i'm sure.. though I've never tried eaither.. I'm afraid I'm not much of a singer or dancer myself." She smiled again. A herd hmm? Well that must be fasinating.. so many around you.. I belonged to one once... long long ago... I had nearly forgotten it really..."
"I'm a good singer," Cabriole smiled proudly, "Although father had told me that I require more practice to improve. Its my passion... And I'm never giving it up!" He nodded, as if agreeing with himself before continuing, "Would you like me to sing a few lines? Its a song that represents Spring to me." He smiled again, this time eagerly waiting for the other mare to say 'yes'; he had always wanted to perform in front of someone other than his family!
"Well, when I came out of my basket, it was only my two sisters and my father," He mused out loud, frowning a little, "And later on, my mother joined us... Is a herd bigger than that? I've never been in one."
"Sure, i'd love to hear you sing." She chuckled some at his herd question as she thought.. It's been so long since she'd left her herd to explore. "Hmm... Ya know.. my heard was a few families al messhed together really.. Though I don't recall too much of it I do remember that much.. I wasn't much older than you when I left my herd.. I've been wandering around ever since."
"Really? Awesome!" The male exclaimed, grinning happily before trying to compose himself again. Then, he started to sing, "The flowers bloom when the sun comes up and its beautiful in the fields. With red and yellow and blue and green - so many colors are up and about... That's what Spring's all about!" Although it sounded perfect to him, it was actually rather monotonous. He was born somewhat tonedeaf. However, because his family didn't have the heart to tell him, he was convinced that he possessed the same singing talents as his parents. In short, the colt was blissfully unaware of his lack of talent and tonedeafness. The male smiled happily at Sho, feeling really nervous about what she thought of his singing, "How was it?"
When Sho described her herd, Cabriole looked a little surprised, "A few families? That sounds like a lot of Soquilis gathered at one place!" He smiled a little; that means more people to perform for! Maybe joining a herd is a good idea after all! Then, he paused, "Wow... On your own? Isn't it scary?"
Sho hid any grimace at the tone deafness of the foal. She really didn't have the heart to tell him. "Well..maybe singing lessons would help some more.. I know some singers practice night and day to keep their voice in shape." She really did try to tip toe around that subject as best as she could.
She nodded all the same. "Yes on my own...I don't really view it as scary though." She thought some on this before shaking her head. "No not scary more exciting.. all the new places to see... I think I have siblings some where.. then again I may be an only child.." She shrugged some. Truth was she didn't remember if she had any siblings or not if she did what were they like?
"That's true," Cabriole replied and nodded happily at her comment, glad that she didn't say that she didn't like it. Maybe he wasn't at his best today, explaining the lack of praise, but from the sounds of it, she probably found it pretty okay! He swelled with pride; perhaps those practise sessions were paying off!
"It does sound exciting," He nodded, "Could you tell me a little about where you've been? I think it'll be a while before I could actually go exploring without my family worrying about me." Cabriole frowned at her comment on siblings; he loved his two sisters, although they do get into minor arguements at times. He can't imagine a life without having them around although he won't openly admit it to them. It sounds... Well, harsh to not even remember if they existed. However, the colt decided not to ask.
She thought long and hard for a moment. "I remember vast open planes where the grass rolled like a sea of green. the sky was bluer than and cornflower i'd ever seen and when it rained it seemed asthough the sky it's self simply opened up and cried. During the dry months this was a problem though.. even though the rain brought life it'd bring down distruction. cracking thunder and flashes of light that would strike the deadened grass and give way to rolling fires.." She looked almost sad for a moment. "many small creatures cannot out run a prairie fire like that... I myself have found troubles with them.. but then I've seen many forests and lush vallies beauty no words could describe truely an art work withing the world." She spoke fondly about some of the places she'd seen. deserts dry and vast, beaches that had many pebbles rather than sand. even the cold snowy tundra she'd mistakenly stumbled across once. though it hadn't taken her long to leave the cold place in search for other things.
"Wow..." Cabriole breathed out in awe; she had seen and experienced so many things in her life that he probably can't even dream of them. Maybe one day, he'll be able to travel just like she did and sing about all the places he had been to and all the experiences that he had experienced. He smiled fondly at the mare, "The fire sounds rather sad and frightening, but I guess that's what nature is... Like you never know what tomorrow will bring. So I want to sing and dance my heart out, even when I'm older!"
She couldn't help but smile. Had she felt fear when the fire had nearly cut her off and sent her fleeing for the lake? Now that she thought back on it perhaps she had felt some amount of fear.. after all they say that it is when you do not fear your own demise that you fail to seek escape from danger. "True.. you never do know what the future will bring you. Live life to it's fullest I always thought."
"Live life to its fullest... I guess that goes the same for me too!" The colt laughed, "I think I better head back now, in case my parents start worrying about me... Maybe one day I can actually wander away without having to return for a while." He turned to look at where his family was when he left to practice his dance moves, "And maybe the next time we meet, I would have improved both my singing and dancing! When that happens, I would love to perform for you again."
Grinning, the male cantered away, "I'll see you again, Sho!"
