PERSONALITY
Likes: dogs, trying out new exotic recipes, poking fun at people she knows will get annoyed (aka Adi)
Dislikes: clothes, storms, irrational pride
Hobbies: cooking, singing in the shower, buying peculiar things, which simply don’t and won’t ever look good in the apartment she shares with Adelbrecht
Fears: thunder, betrayal by the people she trusts
Quote: “Always faithful, always ready.”
Extra: Ani is a rather laid back person. She takes her studies semi-seriously (meaning she doesn’t study until absolutely necessary), which results in her average test results. However, when in the field on a mission, she never loses her focus on the goal. She is an excellent tactician, a skill she inherited and been trained in by her family even before entering Shibusen. Even though precise and efficient, her plans might seem a bit too militaristic and brutal at times, making it apparent that she is not afraid of putting herself in danger to achieve her goal. A possibly fatal flaw of hers however, is that she expect the same dedication of her comrades.
She loves poking fun at people she knows will get annoyed, but not hurt by what she says. However, she might take it a bit over the top at times. She does, however, not tolerate physical violence and refuses to fight, except if she is presented with a sensible reason or if her opponent attacks her first.
Another peculiar habit of hers worth mentioning is her tendency of walking around rather lightly dressed. Being raised in the harsh environment of northern Russia, she is used to constant temperatures around water’s freezing point, or even lower. Since living in the US she rarely needed to wear a long-sleeved shirt, let alone a coat or even warmer outerwear. Though usually abiding the modern society’s preferred dress code, it might happen that, if she becomes too comfortable somewhere and around certain people, she might loosen up a little too much and walk around in rather inappropriate attire (if any at all).

Life's Story:
On the 9th of May, with her first scream echoing through the empty halls of the mansion her family resided in, Anastasia Sergeievna Volkova had sealed her rather miserable fate. Small, female, fair-haired and physically seemingly fragile – traits despised by her family and later detested even by herself. What kind of depraved divine forces fell the decision of putting her with the people she was forced to call her family?
The lineage of the former royal guardians was known far and wide as the “Czar’s dogs” and frankly, Anastasia couldn’t find a better-fitting description, even if she tried. Eating together, sleeping together, fighting together – not a motto, but a lifestyle carried from one generation to the next, making Spartan education seem like summer camp. As soon as a child was able to walk, it was able to be trained and educated. Fun and games were trivialities, existing only to corrupt the young fighters’ hearts and minds, which should strive toward perfection with every breath they take and take advantage of every second they have for training.
Anastasia was no exception. She can honestly not remember a time when she wasn’t either training or being educated. Waking up at four o’clock in the morning, running for 30 minutes, a cold shower to keep the blood circulation going and finally: breakfast. One can imagine how the rest of the day was structured. But not only the body was vigorously trains, the minds of the young generation were filled with the family’s philosophy and beliefs as well. “Always faithful, always ready.” The phrase was burned into every inch of their skin. The reason for their existence was solely to train to become excellent technicians and later serve their country as any loyal dog should serve its master.
Become excellent technicians? It is no mistake, the members of the house of Volkov were known as a family of technicians. And again fate, god or whatever supernatural being you might believe in, played around with little Anastasia and bestowed upon her the harshest punishment a member of her lineage could possibly attain: she was born a weapon. As mentioned before, being small and female automatically lowered her worth in the eyes of her family. When they realized she was a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, but rather lacking when weapons were concerned, her value dropped again. However, the shock and utter horror her parents felt when they realized their 12-year-old offspring was weapon: mere words are not enough to describe it.
From that moment on things drastically changed for the little girl. She was liberated from the harsh training schedule her siblings were forced to endure, she was able to do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted it, if she only didn’t bother other people in her family with it. At first it seemed like Eden: finally free! But as time flew by, she eventually realized what this “freedom” of hers meant: her parents didn’t take any interest in her at all, waving her off whenever she tried to make them attentive of her; her siblings had no time to be with her, since they remained on their parents’ busy training schedule. In her little world she was now alone. But as soon as this truth hit her, she made an iron decision: for all the years she had been working, for the hardships she had been put through, for the degradation she had to endure – she would not idly stand by, but fight!
For the next 6 years she did everything on her own: polishing up her hand-to-hand combat, working on her formal education and, who would have thought, actually having a life outside her family’s mansion. On one of her exploits she came across an advertisement for a weapon and technician school abroad and her mind was made up an hour later: she would leave Russia and start over.
When she turned 18 she made a proposition to her parents: if they were to finance her trip to the US, she would gladly stay out of their way for at least the next few years. Her parents didn’t even need to hear the end of the first sentence, when they already stood up and shook Anastasia’s hand in agreement. A bit saddened by her family’s cheerful response to her life-changing decision, she packed all of her belongings and charted a plane. Destination: Shibusen!
On the first day at her new school she met quite a number of fresh faces – socializing with people of the same age group in such a mass was new to her, but it felt somewhat natural. From all the people she met however, there was one person she simply couldn’t forget: a young Frenchman (or was it German? She simply couldn’t remember at the time), tall, rather skinny, dark-haired and with glasses. Being used to only seeing violent brutes at the family’s training grounds, this refined young man seemed as exotic to her as a tiger lily to penguins on the Antarctic. She learned of his name quite quickly, and never being shy around anyone, she talked to him every once in a while on that day, teasing him by calling him Adi, which she could see annoyed him.
As the orientation on the first day was finally over, she decided to head back to the hotel she was temporarily staying at. However, she couldn’t bring herself to tease the boy one last time by saying goodbye. “See you, Adi!” As soon as those words left her lips, she was confronted with a rather unpleasant reaction: the sleek young man haphazardly turned into a raging beast with the quite apparent intention of harming her. He attacked her bare-handedly and this being Anastasia’s specialty, she knew how to avoid and counter. But even though it appeared as if she could take him down quite easily, something just didn’t seem right. She read his moves and avoided or countered them, however when she went into offense, the young man did the same. They were playing around like this for some time and a crowd, always eager to see a good fight, formed a circle around them.
A teacher was bothered by the sudden commotion and went to investigate the happenings. But only a second before he was able to make his way through the mass of people, the fight was already over. The winner: no one. Or both. However you take it. In the ground in the middle of the circle lay two teenagers literally laughing their pants off. When the teacher inquired about their well being, they simply shook him off, claiming it was all a misunderstanding. The disappointed crowd, which didn’t get to see any blood that day, cleared up and only the two fighters stayed behind.
Without a word they both knew what happened that day: they were to become partners. And for the first time in her life Anastasia thanked fate, God or whatever one might call these supernatural things. She thanked them because they let her meet Adelbrecht Lacroix.
