wahmbulance WARNING: This thread will most likely make you hungry. You have been warned! wahmbulance rofl Hey everyone, this past week I was lucky enough to try a new Japanese food at my local Japanese restaurant - Takoyaki!!!! Which is Octopus Balls! : D Yay~! And no, not the balls of an Octopus, >_>;;; But more like a dumpling ball with a piece of octopus inside. It looks like:
There are much prettier ones with green onions and mayo and stuff, but the one I had were simple like the picture.
Info about it from Wikipedia:Quote: Takoyaki (たこ焼き or 蛸焼?) (literally fried or baked octopus) is a popular Japanese dumpling made of batter, diced or whole baby octopus, tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion, topped with okonomiyaki sauce, ponzu, mayonnaise, green laver (aonori), and katsuobushi (fish shavings), first popularized in Taisho-era Osaka, where a street vendor named Endo Tomekichi is credited with its invention in 1935 . Takoyaki can be found in shops called issen-yoshoku (壹銭洋食), which roughly translates to "one-penny Western food" . There is a similarly named dish called ikayaki but it is a broiled whole squid and bears no resemblance. Yaki is derived from "yaku" (焼) which simply means "to bake or grill" in Japanese, and can be found in the names of other Japanese cuisine items such as teriyaki or sukiyaki. So what kinds of Japanese food have you all tried? Or what kind of Japanese food do you want to try? What kind of Japanese food do you stay away from? List them all here! biggrin

You got my stomach grumbling. Damn 12+ hour school day. I bought this snack, can't remember name, with dried seaweed sheet wrapped rice cracker, or something like that. Tastes nasty, but I strangely like it.

Oh man...I'm so jealous that you've had okonomiyaki! I want to try it! I love Ramune! So good! You should try korokke! You take mashed potatoes, mix it with a bit of fried onion and cooked ground beef, then form balls, roll in flour, roll it in egg, then roll it in panko bread crumbs and deep fry it until it's golden brown. It's super delicious. SUPER. Also, if you mix shredded cheese in with the mashed potatoes it's even better! I'm suddenly feeling the need to cook them again! mmm...

They do have a funky taste, but they get addicting after munching on them for a while.

Yes, having an authentic one makes it that much mroe desireable. *_* I often crave it and curse myself for being so far away from Japan town. I tried making it myself, but it never tastes the same. XD
Korokke...You mean the Japanese version of Croquette? Yes, I've always wanted to try that in general.

All this food makes me want to vomit. Though at this point and considering I am sick, even the food I like would make me want to vomit. However, in truth, despite that I am Japanese, there are very few foods, so far, that I actually like.
