The air was chill enough at 11:34 in the evening for the ache in Scylla's hand to be an annoyance. She was leaning against the wall of Crystal Academy, ignoring the call of the brave boys in the convertible. It was red, and the top was down. And the driver, unless her eyes mislead her, was a redhead.
She liked redheads. And men with black hair. Still, why they were whistling and yelling drunken compliments in the direction of a yound woman in a big poufy skirt with hair that belonged on Fran Fine (from The Nanny, her own Nanny's favorite show when she was a kid) she didn't know.
Correction. The key words were young and woman. And drunk.
Jada didn't respond to the cat-callers, instead pulling off one of her lovely white gloves to examine the wounds on her arm.
When would Virgo be here? Or was the Zodiac senshi already gone for the evening? The night before she had gone out by herself and rescued some person from youma. And look what had happened to her. She'd gotten chased down by 3-eyed wolflike youma, shoved a fellow Sailor Scout (who had helped her) out of a tree and into the throng chasing her in a panic, and then gotten her arm bitten. Oddly, her uniform had fixed itself after she'd de-henshined, but her arm had not. She'd worn a sweater and claimed a mild fever to get away with it.
Her heel tapped against the sidewalk as the car drove away, and she sighed. Really, this was getting to be a boring night.

Virgo got started a little late that night, tumbling down the side of a building to land with two light tump! sounds. She didn't intend to go far, just over to Giselle and Aurelia's window so she could see if either of them would want to venture out with her for patrol. Not often did those two want to go out with her; they found her too chatty, she supposed. Chattiness wasn't a bad thing, not to Virgo, but it appeared it was to other people.
She rounded the corner of the dormitory building and spotted Scylla. Her entire face brightened up, and Virgo started to run towards the darker-haired senshi.
Then she spotted the ugly bite mark on Scylla's arm.
"Scy!" She really ran the rest of the way, seizing the newer senshi's elbow and examining the bite mark closely. "What happened? Did you get hurt? You don't look like you were out patrolling yet. You're still on campus. Are you okay?"
Carefully, gently, she ran her fingertips along the wound. "You should be more careful, please tell me you weren't alone?"

She ran her hands over the slightly raw bite wounds. It was the tip-tap tip-tap of Virgo's heels that warned her only a moment before the other girl was at her side, grabbing at her arm. Damn, she wouldn't have had time to cover the wound anyways.
Scylla gave her friend a wry smile and sighed, shrugging. "I saved someone's life though, Virgo." Her friend didn't want to hear that she'd been alone.
The life had been saved by herself, but her own life may have been forfeit if it hadn't been for Castor. She owed him, even if the meeting had been a little... embarrassing. "This little scratch was worth the rush I got last night from that simple action."
She reached out, pulled Virgo into a hug. "What were you up to last night?"

Now, she usually accepted 'but I saved someone else' rationale, at least from herself. But in senshi she thought of as her siblings, she did not accept that, so she scowled up at Scylla. "I told you to be careful," she said, and as she was pulled into the hug, "Mmf!"
For a minute, she was tense like she wanted to yell some more. But it was a hug, and hugs were love poems to the little girl in Virgo, so she relaxed and hugged the older senshi into a hug. (How did she know Scy was older? She had bigger boobs, as crude as that sounded. All the older girls Virgo knew had big chests, and she was still flat as an ironing board.)
"Last night I stayed inside to finish a project for English and then the Princess had a nightmare and then I fell asleep," she explained, "I felt bad this morning but the Princess told me not to feel sorry. Princess Chronos never tells you not to feel sorry if you should feel sorry. But Captain Aries is even worse."
She pursed her lips at Scylla's bite marks, tugged the other senshi's gloves up over the bite marks. Then she patted the cloth gently, like she had just tucked the injury in. "Let's patrol together tonight! Please please please?"

She'd won. Though somehow she thought she'd won from Virgo changing tactics in some unknown way than an actual win. "Oooh, the English projects going around are a bear." she agreed. "Luckily I got mine done the week after it was issued. I work in the library, and didn't have anything better to do that week." Dark-haired Scylla watched as her friend pulled the glove back up her arm.
"I have a lot to tell you about last night, Virgo. I met Castor. It was definitely an interesting experience. He's a little bit of a pervert." she pulled the other senshi down the walk with her. "Where do you want to patrol?"

"Mine was due today and I thought it was due next week," said Virgo, "I just haven't been too good at keeping track of time, lately." She looked vaguely guilty at that, olive green eyes averted. A Zodiac should always be able to keep track of time. A Zodiac should know what day it is and what day things are due. She should not get distracted with her training regimen to the point her grades were suffering, and boy they were suffering.
Virgo was sad about this.
She looked up at Scylla, bright-eyed and shocked. "Castor is not a pervert! He asks bad questions sometimes but he is not a pervert." She looped her arm through Scylla's, peeking around a corner before pulling the black-haired senshi along after her over the fence. "Let's go to the shopping district," she chirped, "It's nice and bright-lit!" She seemed to realize this might not be the best reason to ever go to a specific patrol area, so she added, "Also the youma tend to be prettier."
And then, quieter, when they slowed to a stop on a street corner, Virgo admitted in a tiny voice, "Plus I'm scared of the dark."

Scylla patted her friend's hand reassuringly. "It happens!" she assured Virgo. "Look, if you need help, tell me the super important things that you need to remember. And don't tell me Castor's not a pervert. The bad stuff he said to me was not in question form." she followed Virgo easily over the wall. "The shopping district will work."
Really, him telling Scylla that he had a boner had not been comfortable at all. Especially considering she'd been sitting on it at the time. She heard Virgo's quiet confession and used their looped arms to pull the other girl closer in. "Don't worry. I won't let anything hurt you."
And she meant it. The senshi stopped obediently at the crosswalk, thoughtlessly pushing the button so that she and Virgo could cross legally. As if Sailor Scouts needed to worry about legality. Still, one never knew when a cop would be passing by looking to arrest someone for something.
"I spent the night with Castor last night. I was in the bathroom all night, but it was weird." she kept her tone conversational, level. "He saved my life, and then gave me a place to stay. He's still a pervert, but he's a good one."

Though it was hard to tell with all the lights in the area, for a second something very large briefly blocked out the moon, casting a bizarre shadow on the pavement over Virgo and Scylla. "What the hell is that?!" A teenage boy demanded from beside Virgo, pointing upwards towards a sky, several other people tipping their heads to look up in clear confusion. Was it a bird? A plane? Superman?
It was the first and only warning that the Sailor pair got that trouble was afoot.
Whatever had been there was gone the moment the teenage boy pointed, and as the crowd muttered about 'crazy planes, flying too close to the city', the Sailor Scouts may have noticed that one of the nearby shops across the street (Elizabeth's Secret) had acquired a bizarre looking gargoyle. The thing looked like some bizarre half bat, half crocodile freak hybrid, and definitely hadn't been there earlier. For now, however, it didn't seem to be moving, simply staring into the crowd of people unblinkingly. When the crosswalk light changed from the flashing red hand to a white walking symbol the beast almost seemed to twitch.
A trick of the light?

"Whaaaaat," said Virgo, "Whaaaat? Castor isn't like that!" She puzzled over this on the way to the shopping district, except when she set her head against Scylla's. Even the Captain hadn't been told about Virgo's fear of the dark, at least, not by Virgo; it was both a token of her trust for Scylla and her fear of disappointing the Captain that the Moon senshi knew and Aries did not. She waited quietly for the light to change so they could cross, and when it did she skipped across the road. "Why were you in the bathroom?" But she was smiling at Scylla, a little shyly, like she was happy that her friend agreed with most of her assessment of the Senshi of Hail.
Then a shadow passed overhead, and Virgo looked up, searching for the enemy. Something was wrong, that wasn't a plane shape, Virgo knew the shapes of plane. She looked up at the front of Elizabeth's Secret, turning bright red in the process (she never shopped there, you couldn't pay her to go in there without a friend along).
She tilted her head, pointed to Scylla. "Did this store always have a scary monster gargoyle, Scy?"

"Pffff." Scylla made a raspberry-sounding noise with her lips. Bumped her head with Virgo's lightly. It was like spending time with an older version of one of her sisters, it really was. "I was in the bathroom because that's where the first aid kit was. I fell asleep."
She heard the voice, caught the shadow, and like Virgo she became attentive. Her eyes drifted over the people, along the buildings, and then she scanned the rooftops.
"None of the shops had a gargoyle, sweetheart." she replied, and turned to look at her favorite store in the world.
Oh, yuck. She hissed through her teeth, agitated that there were still some people here at 11:30. Mostly store employees on their way home, who weren't paying any attention to the two teens. They probably thought they were cosplayers of some sort, which worked for Scylla.

Apparently the "gargoyle" didn't like the nasty things that were being said about it. (Nobody can help how they're born, okay?)
With a screech the creature spread its wings, snapping its jaws in the air. "Senshi! Senshi! Senshi!" It screamed, stomping its feet up and down on the rooftop and leaving dents behind. Clearly it wasn't in a good mood. The opposite side of the street suddenly became that much less appealing as the youma abandoned its perch and landed with a sidewalk-crushing thud in front of the store. Its eyes, almost out-glowing the nearby neon signs, were fixed on the pair of girls that had spotted it for what it really was.
"I smeeelll seeeeeenshiiiii!"

She nodded after a moment, it made sense. She would hang out in a bathroom if she needed the first aid kit, too. Scylla was really smart, clearly.
Virgo was glad that Scylla thought the gargoyle was off, too; "I never shop here," she said, "So I wouldn't know. Maman says that good girls don't think about their, um, unmentionables? Not a lot, anyway." She looked around carefully, trying to see something that could be used as a weapon. What she found was a trash can, a ladder, and a few traffic cones. Also a sign advertising a sale at Elizabeth's Secret.
The sign could be useful, she decided, and just in time, too, because now the youma was in motion!
It had to be one of the newer, intelligent youma, she decided quickly; most of them couldn't talk at all, and this was had clearly enunciated words. She broke from Scylla, picked up a traffic cone and threw it, hard, clearly expecting it to do little more than irritate the monster.
"Scy, see if you can get the civilians clear!" Sudden personality adjustment? You bet. This was Virgo with her game face on, green eyes narrow and sparking with something deeper than hate. "Or try and restrain it, we can't have any of them losing their starseeds, we can't get them back if it eats them!"

"I think you and I need to have a talk about unmentionables." Scylla's voice was very severe. "Cause I love that shop." in fact half of her closet was lined with 'unmentionables' from that shop, everything from undies to camisoles, even to their actual clothing. Her favorite dress had been bought from there, in fact.
She scowled as the gargoyle stamped and screamed. This would not do at all. How could she get it down from there before it caused more destruction to the best shop ever?
The problem was solved by the youma leaping down from the roof, crushing in a part of the sidewalk. Virgo's cone flew toward the youma and Scylla grinned.
"GET OUT OF HERE." That was about all she could do to intimidate the civilians into moving, bellow her order in their general directions. Restraining would be much easier. "Scylla's Sorrow." came the murmur, and her power responded with a silent cry. Two tentacles, one on each side of the gargoyle, reached up in an attempt to catch and restrain the beast.

"SENSHIIIIIII!"
It seemed, despite its ability to speak, the youma's vocabulary was quite restricted. Elke caught its attention first – naturally, she was yelling and throwing a traffic cone – and the youma watched as the cone came closer and closer until it contacted with one of its large ears. Huh. Eyeing the cone, the youma picked it up and then promptly ate it.
Definitely not as delicious as starseeds.
The tentacles wrapped around the youma's wrists started it and it screeched, tugging against the bonds. Shaking from side to side, it spread its wings and prepared to jump into the air, no doubt trying to get rid of the tentacles.

Virgo looked over her shoulder guiltily as she picked up the sign. It was heavier than she expected; the flatter side would work as a weapon anyway, right? Right. She would make herself believe it, and hopefully that would help. "I don't think we should be talking about unmentionables while fighting a monster," she said, watching the tentacles emerge and hold down the youma. It had eaten the cone. That was slightly intimidating.
Then she ran forward to slam the sign into the restrained youma's head. Hopefully it wouldn't... move too suddenly, or something. Hitting concrete with the metal sign would probably jar her shoulders or something. It'd be terrible.
"Je l'ai!"
