Their apartment is originally Adelbrecht’s, but since they discovered they were destined to be partners as a weapon and technician, living together was the most logical solution. Taking in account the fact that Adelbrecht is “a bit” of a perfectionist, and that Anastasia doesn’t really care where she lives as long as she has a comfy bed and a kitchen, they decided that Anastasia will simply move into his flat.

The flat was bought by the Lacroix family, which in eagerness to make their Adi feel just like home, chose an apartment a bit too big for just one, with rooms that even Adelbrecht had no idea what to do with.

Entering the flat from the hallway, you will find yourself in the lobby. On the right side, there is a simple modernistic-designed wardrobe, and a low shoe cabinet of the same style next to it. Most of the time, every jacket or cloak and every single pair of shoes is neatly stowed away, settled in perfect order even within the wardrobe and the cabinet – at least that’s how Adelbrecht’s attempting to keep things.

Five doors lead from the hallway; two pairs on the opposite sides, and one directly ahead. The door directly ahead leads to the main living quarters, more precisely the living room, which then gently passes into the dining room and kitchen. The living room is nearly exclusively black and white; or, more precisely, it would be if it wasn’t for Anastasia’s … stuff. The floor is covered in white laminate, creating nearly an overdose of whiteness together with the immaculate white walls and snowy white curtains hanging ceiling-to-floor next to the enormous windows. The sitting garniture is designed in a modernistic style of rectangular forms, and made of expensive black leather. Several small white pillows are placed neatly in the corners of the garniture. Hung on the opposite wall, there are some shelves, all crafted out of the exquisite dark ebony wood, and a large flat-screen TV. To liven up the room a bit, a plant is placed in the corner; it’s the sturdy Dracaena fragrans, also known as the tree of life in some countries. Anastasia named it Vladimir.

Passing through a simple door-less arch, one would enter the dining room with the kitchen niche. Its walls are painted bright orange – which does startle at first, but boosts creativity and encourages appetite, and goes lovely with the bright birch wood of which the dining table is made of. The table is designed for six, but despite its size manages to look elegant, and fits into the room nicely. All of the chairs around it are cushioned with velvet orange seat-pads, and shaped ergonomically to provide the maximum comfort while enjoying your delicious meal. The kitchen niche, being a part of the same room, is also designed in the orange-theme, and lit brightly by several large windows. Small lights are placed strategically to provide light directly to the working surfaces. Despite the obvious effort into making the kitchen look classy on the outside, it actually includes all of the modern appliances and every part of kitchen ware you’d ever need. A small door indicates the entrance to the pantry – basically a clean dry room filled with shelves and cabinets of the most basic food ingredients. There are no “just add water powders” in this home.

The balcony can also be accessed from the living room; it’s not really that large, but hardly small either, just enough for the two residents to sit there, comfortably drinking their favourite tea. A few flower boxes are hung on the elaborately curved iron fence, most of them containing delicate flowers, which Adelbrecht waters with care. One of them – the largest actually – is full of various fragrant herbs which Anastasia uses for cooking.

Returning to the hallway, let’s see where the other doors lead to. The first door on the left is the storage room, a small cupboard-style room used for putting away things they don’t need but have to or want to keep anyway. Probably the only place in the entire flat that Adelbrecht doesn’t even try to keep tidy and in order.

The first door on the right is the bathroom. It contains every single thing a fine hotel bathroom should have; plus, it doesn’t have only a shower, but a rather large bathtub as well. Despite the wc and the bathroom being in the same room – much to Adi’s discomfort – the wc and the bathroom part are actually separated by a thin emerald tinted glass divider. The colour theme of the bathroom is green, all the way from the nearly pastel shade of the wall tiles and the grassy-green floor mats, to the dark emerald floor tiles.

The second left and the second right door lead to Anastasia’s and Adelbrecht’s rooms respectively.

Adelbrecht’s room is dominated by blue colour theme; starting with the hardly coloured sky-blue walls and bed linen, all the way to the royal blue carpet on the white laminate floor and the curtains of the same colour hung next to a floor-to-ceiling window. This is the one room that is always tidy and in order, Adelbrecht’s little kingdom. Not a single thing can be seen left lying about; everything is stored in either the large closet next to the door, or the low chest of drawers lining the wall, ending up as a wide desk. There isn’t much else to be said about this room; when Adelbrecht is away, it looks almost as if no one lived there.

Anastasia’s room will be designed upon her arrival.

Adelbrecht Lacroix arrived to his apartement - which he only recently agreed to share with Anastasia - only to discover that the perfect order had been disrupted harshly by large cardboard boxes placed all over the flat. The ebony-haired teen literally froze in his place, the knuckles of the hand still clenched around the key growing white due to the force with which he was suddenly gripping the tiny object.

Big... dirty... and most of all... plain cheap... cardbord boxes...?!

The laminate...! I just hope it didn't get scratched...

...

What did that... woman... do to my place...?

It was probably one of the rare moments in his life up until now that he was confused, lost, not knowing what to do or how to react. He closed his eyes for a moment, hoping that everything will just go away by the time he opens them. But of course, it did not. The enourmous cardboard boxes were a blatant proof that this wasn't only a dream, and it seemed like they laughed directly in Adelbrecht's face.

Perplexed by the undeniable truth, he closed his eyes again, standing in the frame of the door, the keys still in his clenched fist, and waited. He waited, determined not to open his eyes until everything just goes away.

No, no, na-a, not this one either... Argh, where IS this place? Anastasia was walking down one of Death City's many streets in search of the apartment she was supposed to move in to today. I mean, the instructions Adi gave me were pretty clear... I knew where to go while he was still explaining it... Geez, no wonder people make fun of blonds. She raised her head and her face lit up. The building she was looking for was just a bit ahead on the right side of the street. Excited as she was, she subconsciously sped up and almost ran to the apartment's front door.

Before she even completely stepped into the apartment's hallway, she yelled into the emptiness: "Ani here, I just let myself in, I hope you don't mind. Have the packers brought my stuff over yet?" She saw her new house-mate standing between the hallway and what seemed to be the living room, his hand clenched tightly into a fist. The tension emitting from the young man was rather alerting and Ani instinctively sharpened her senses while stepping beside him. Expecting to see him starring at the object which caused him such distress, he simply stood there with his eyes closed.

Ani looked around the room. "Ah, I see my things are finally here! I'll just take the boxes to my room. And you continue your standing-meditation or whatever it is you're doing. Could you just tell me where my room is?" She looked at Adi, hoping for an answer, which never came. She nodded silently. "Ok... I guess I can figure that one out on my own."

After looking through the different rooms, she managed to figure out where her room was located and started moving the boxes from the lobby one-by-one. After she was done, she wiped the little sweat from her forehead and realized she was hungry. Moving toward the kitchen she passed the living room ornament and whispered into the statue's ear: "I'm going to make some lunch. If you feel like it, please join me. I promise, you won't regret it."

With a naughty smile she walked toward the kitchen and started rummaging through the cabinets and fridge.

Hearing his partner entering the apartement, Adelbrecht considered his options. He might face her and explain his feelings about the disgusting cardboard boxes all over the flat, but that probably wouldn't do any good to their relationship. And then again, he'd have to open his eyes for that, which mean he'd have to risk facing the despicable boxes again...

However, Ani solved his dilemma before he even managed to consider other options. Without saying a word, he waited for her to drag all the boxes into her room, still keeping his eyes tightly shut. Only after he was one hundred percent that they were all gone, did he dare to part the eyelids, revealing the tint-blue irises, gazing at the now empty apartment as if the horrendous sight from before was just a horrid nightmare.

However, he almost staggered a bit when the young Russian proved to be just next to him, whispering in his ear. She surely was a master of arts, for him not to have noticed that she was quite as near to him.

He backed away a bit, making a small step to his right, just to keep the decent distance. Having been raised as a gentleman, he was far from used to being that close to a woman who wasn't either his mother or grandmother.

Pretending that nothing ever happened - especially not cardboard boxes being in his living room - he flashed her a wide smile. "Well, Ani, welcome to your new home," he said lightly, suddenly all relaxed and calm. He even remembered to hang the key he was gripping before on its hook next to the door. It was as if he turned into a completely different person in a matter of seconds - the tension was all gone, and here it was again, his typical self, a relaxed, talkative and open-minded more-or-less-Frenchman.

At the sight of her rummaging throuhg the kitchen cabinets and fridge, his smile only widened into a blissful grin. "Ani.. you can cook?"

That was obvious, of course, if she was making lunch. It was more of a rhetorical question, to be honest - what he truly wondered is, how good of a cook she is... Faced with gourmet quisine, he'd be able to withstand literally anything... - even cardboard boxes, for that matter.

Wathing the blonde teen make herself home in the kitchen, Adelbrecht crossed the living room, passing through the dining room only to stop next to the kitchen niche. He pointed towards the small door, saying: "The pantry is there, along with most of the food."

Glad her partner decided to keep her company in the kitchen, she followed the direction his finger was pointing in and opened the pantry. While examining the food stock, all kinds of different recipes were running through her head, each of them examined by her in milliseconds. After a few seconds she had a basic idea of what she wished to prepare to convince her house-mate of her expertise in cooking, or to maybe even impress him a little. She grabbed the ingredients she needed from the pantry and put them on the counter.

"Oh, I'm glad you decided to join me." She smiled at him warmly. "Well, even though I might not seem like it, I know my way around the kitchen. Before I came here... Let's just say I cooked a lot for my own sake and learning interesting and exotic recipes just came with the territory."

The young girl swiftly grabbed a cute apron she brought from Russia, put it on and tied the two strings in a butterfly-like knot at the back. She turned around to face Adelbrecht and one could see the words поцелуй Шеф-повар, translated into KISS THE CHEF, written in big red letters on her chest.

"So, any allergies I should know about?" She grabbed the first onion and started chopping it with quick, but elegant moves.

Adelbrecht only watched the blonde spinning around the kitchen, picking the ingredients carefully and placing them on the kitchen desk with used gestures. Even if it wasn't for her words that made him feel she had been cooking far more that an average female of her age, he'd known by now that she was no novice to pots and pans.

He tilted his head to side while observing her preparing the ingredients. In the last years, he had become used to cooking for himself, and even before, at home, he'd sneak into the kitchen to help the elderly cook preparing the food... but he had no idea what Anastasia was up to now. The more he calculated the possibilities the chosen ingredients offered, the more it dazzled him.

Not to mention her apron... for some reason, the normally tomboyish-looking blonde was now almost.. cute...? He had no idea what the word written over her chest meant, but he didn't dare to ask either - after all, it would seem like he was actually looking at her chest... and that would be, in his opinion, highly inappropriate.

Observing her chop the onion, Adelbrecht answered the question almost dreamily - the repetitive movement of the knife was rather hypnotizing. "Nothing I'd known about..."

Suddenly realising how useless he was just standing there, gazing over the desk into the niche, he approached to the self-proclaimed-head-chef, and asked kindly: "Anything I can help you with?"

The onions being chopped, she grabbed one of the seemingly expensive pans from one of the cupboards, poured a little bit of extra-virgin olive oil into it and put it onto the semi-hot flame. While quickly chopping some garlic, she answered the young man offering her help.

"Hmmmm, let's see, the main dish I'm preparing is pretty easy, but I'd appreciate it if you'd help me with the trimmings. If you'd boil some water and cook the pasta it would be great. And maybe if you'd prepare the salad - chicory with a light dressing would be perfect. Oh! Though I know how to cook, I'm not a real sommelier... If you'd be willing to pick a wine, which would go good with a savory chicken dish..."

While saying all of this she threw the onions into the frying pan and while waiting for the ingredients to turn gold-brown, she started seasoning two pairs of chicken breasts with salt, pepper and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Her rambling however, suddenly came to a stop. "Oh, I'm sorry. Whenever I think about things like this I just seem to forget about the world around me." She scratched the top of her head and laughed, not sure how Adi would react.

"Don't worry, I'm on it," he replied with the sweest smile. Immediately, he made himself busy, ticking off the tasks given in his mind.

Water... put on the stove. Tick. Wait for it to boil, prepare some pasta next to it.

He turned around swiftly, gathering the fresh vegetables prepared for the salad in his arms, picking his favourite knife out of the drawer, and putting all of it onto the other side of the desk, just far enough that he didn't bother Anastasia. She seemed to be absolutely emerged in the process of cooking, and Adelbrecht smiled absent-mindedly at the sight; somehow, it filled him with strange warmness whenever he saw someone so dedicated to what they were doing.

Reaching over to the cupboard, he collected a rather large porcellain bowl out of it and placed it next to the veggies on the desk.

However, he remembered that if they wanted to have some wine with it, he'd better put it in the fridge - warm would be no good. And he'd have to do that before chopping all the veggies.

For a few moments, he disappeared into the pantry, searching for something very near to the ground - for there was where he had kept his wine. Suffice to say, he was very fond of a drop of good wine; after all, he had been living in France for most of his life, and appreciating good wine simply came with it.

After the search, he emerged back from the pantry, holding up a bottle of red wine victoriously. Beaujolais, it read. One of the most charming French wines; a young wine, light-bodied, made from Gamay grape that is low on tannins... The gentle slightly acidic but savoury taste had always enchanted Adelbrecht, and from what Ani had told him, he knew it would fit perfectly with their lunch.

"This, Ani, is a masterpiece amongs the wines... in my humble opinion, at least," he told her victoriously. The simple fact that the lunch offered him the perfect chance to open a bottle of Beaujolais made him unexpectedly excited.

With the wine stored in the fridge to cool down just a bit, his attention turned back to the vegetables. Skilfully, he chopped the chicory - of course, not at all as skilfully as Anastasia did, but it was obvious he'd done that numerous times before.

However, that strange inscription over Ani's chest still bothered him. The signs danced in his mind, like they were teasing him, mocking for not being able to understand. That's why he, cautiosly as possible, asked: "Say, Ani... what does that strange inscription on your apron mean?"

It was a good thing he was facing the other way, so that Ani could not see the light blush making his way onto his cheeks.

Ani smiled back at him, but quickly resumed her cooking, becoming absorbed in it instantly. The onions and garlic now being gold-brown, she took the seasoned chicken breasts and started sauteing them in the hot frying pan.

Adi returned from the pantry, with a bottle of wine in his hand and a proud look on his face. Announcing this particular one being a masterpiece, she giggled. I guess he really is french, despite his surname. She realized it was getting rather hot - the climate itself was already unbearable for her, but cooking in this heat: it felt like she was being cooked herself.

While Adi was chopping the chicory, she took a bowl from one of the cupboards and turned into his direction. He suddenly asked her a question, without looking at her. "This? It is a very old Russian saying. Some say the first Russian Czar said it on the day of his coronation. It has a number of meanings and its interpretations reach from concrete to extremely philosophical." She paused for a few moments, "Nah, it means kiss the cook!" and winked at him.

She naughtily smiled at Adi and stretched out her arm in which she was holding the bowl from before. "Would you mind opening the bottle of wine you picked and pouring a deciliter of it in here. I think its sourness would complement the chicken just perfectly, if I drowned it with it." But what she didn't realize was, that the unnerving heat she felt before was gone. Just moments before a habit of hers got the best of her again - she was now standing in the middle of the kitchen, wearing only her underwear and her cute apron above it.

One shock after another - that was just too much for Adelbrecht.

First, there was the inscription. Surely, that didn't upset him that much, but to have "kiss the cook" written over her breasts... well, suffice to say he avoided looking in her direction for safety reasons. It's probably just the consequence of his upbringing - but he could be nominated for the top-ten-most-decent men in the world. Not exactly flattering for a guy of his age.

Then, not even letting him a moment of rest, she demanded he'd pour out some of the beaujolais for drowning the meat in it.

Such desecration...!

Drowning chicken in beaujolais...

How... how could she?

Slowly, he turned his head around to face her, prepared to explain her why that could not be done, and what a sin it was wasting such excellent wine on drowning meat.

However, with his mouth already half-open, he noticed Anastasia's sudden lack of attire. He froze in place, his mouth open, but no words coming out. What could be called an expression of utter shock was etched on his face, causing his eybrows to nearly disappear beneath the hair. With a clack of teeth slamming back together, he closed his mouth without as much as uttering a word.

Not being able to talk or even think clearly for that matter, Adelbrecht backed away a few steps, his gaze fixated at Anastasia as if she was some easily aggrevated vicious beast, ready to attack any time.

Step back, step back, step back... step back?

Forgetting the narrowness of the niche, he bumped hard against the kitchen desk, accidentially sweeping the knife off the table, sending it flying to the grounds, slashing his trousers as well as his skin on its way.

As if awakend from a trance by the pain that slashed through him as the blade cut open a fairly large wound on his lower leg, he grabbed the opportunity the bloody diversion gave him, and ran out of the kitchen as fast as he could.

"I'll find some bandages, don't worry, you just stay there," he shouted back from the other side of the apartment once he managed to actually make words come out of his mouth.

Moments later, another sentence echoed over the flat, a request, expressed much more silently than the words before. "And Ani, would you mind making yourself decent, please?"

Watching Adelbrecht backing away from her and slicing his leg open in the process, Ani was rather shocked. Before she could even move any closer to help him stop the bleeding, he haphazardly ran out of the kitchen, telling her not to worry.

She stood there for a second or two, her mouth open, but no words coming out, her mind seemingly preoccupied with the analysis of what happened just a moment before. She picked the bloody knife off the floor and washed it quickly in the sink, but still threw it into the dishwasher, just to be sure. After cleaning the little bit of blood on the floor, she turned toward stove, shaking her head, took some ordinary cooking wine and poured some of it onto the chicken. The fumes emitting from the pan made her a little dizzy. But her alcohol sniffing session was interrupted by Adelbrecht's humble request.

Decent? How am I indecent? Thinking this she lifted her head and tried looking out of the window, but instead happened to look at her own reflection in the glass. Let's see: hair is clean and tied into a ponytail, eyes are clear, I have no blood, puke or snot on my face, the neck is ok, my apron is clean, my underwear fresh and ... Oh! She looked around the kitchen and located her missing pants and T-shirt on one of the counters. Dressed appropriately again, she turned back toward the chicken and lowered the heat.

While waiting for it to cook until perfection, she quickly mixed the ingredients together for dessert, poured the dough into two heat-proof dishes and put them quickly into the oven. The dessert was supposed to be a surprise for Adi, so this "little accident" he had was quite convenient, as crude as it might sound. I'm sure this'll cheer him up, I just hope it won't be a lot worse than his mother's. Wait, does his mother even cook, I mean they ARE rich?

Suddenly she remembered the victim still hasn't come back. Hitting herself on the forehead because she didn't even ask if he was alright, she peeked out of the cooking niche. "Um, Adi? Are you ok? Or do I need to call for an ambulance?"

It was surprising how many useful things Adelbrecht knew despite the fact that he had been brought up in a rather rich family, with a few servants at disposal. But silly as it seemed to his mothert and grandparents, he had often sought out the company of the household staff, learning about their everyday jobs. Another thing that made him much more self-sufficient, was the time he had spent in the boarding school. After all, he was faced with reality all of a sudden, and he had to adapt; he learn a valuable lesson at that time: if he wanted anything done, he'd had to do it himself.

That's how he got used to buy his food, cook his meals, and clean his room... and eventually, take care of his injuries as well. While he was very sensitive concerning certain matters, he had no problems dealing with blood or open wounds.

He located the bandages with ease, for he had the entire first-aid-kit for households in one of the bathroom cabinets - not sure why, but he thought it might come in handy some time. His face cringed in pain as he disinfected the wound with alcochol; however, he let out no sound of complaint.

Now that the wound was clean, it didn't even look that bad; it was a long slash, but rather shallow, and a very clean cut - with proper treatment, it woud heal nicely without even as much as a mark.

Starting to wrap his leg in bandages, he heard Anastasia's voice, worrying about his well-being. His lips curled into a smile; despite they only met a few days ago, became partners and moved in together, it seemed like she actually cared... "I'm fine, don't worry. It won't even leave a scar. Just give me a minute to wrap it up," he answered confidently, and resumed the process of securing the snow-white bandages over the compression gauze.

Anastasia was relieved her house-mate was still responsive and almost unharmed. Lunch was almost ready, she just needed to finish the dressing for the salad, the pasta was al-dente already and the chicken smelled so good, she was really starting to feel how hungry she actually was.

The teen grabbed two rectangular-shaped plates from one of the cupboards and put them next to the stove. She first made a bed out of the pasta, placed a juicy piece of the chicken breast on top of it and poured a little bit of the sauce left in the pan over the food, making fine, circular lines. They say you eat with your eyes first. The thought made her giggle.

Picking up the two plates, she left the cooking niche and put them onto the table in the dining area. When she returned to the kitchen, she grabbed the large bowl of salad and quickly checked up on the surprise dessert. Returning one last time, she grabbed two elegant wineglasses and the now cool bottle of beaujolais from the fridge and placed them all on their respective places.

While untying her apron, she spoke: "Adi, I'm done. Are you feeling all right? Are you even still hungry?"

Adelbrecht finshed bandaging his leg almost exactly in the same moment when Anastasia told him she was done with the lunch. Soulmates, huh? he thought and supressed a laugh. It seemed that the wavelength of their souls impacted more matters than one might think.

Instead of answering, he simply packed everything back to its respective place, and returned to the dining room with a reassuring smile on his face. "It's really nothing," he repeated, flashing her a smile that would convince anyone that everything in the world was in perfect order.

Approvingly, he also noticed that Ani was back in her clothes again, and he decided not to investigate further; it was much easier for him if he just ignored the fact that she was at one point, standing in front of him in her underwear - no, no, that never happened. Ignorance is bliss, they say after all.

It actually took him some time to notice the plates; to be honest, he smelled the tempting scent of freshly roasted chicken before his gaze dropped to the table. But when his mind embraced the picture his eyes were perceiving, he couldn't hide his astonishment.

Everything was in place, the food looked so delicious it would make anyone hungry, and the air was soaked with the gentle tempting scents, mixing together harmoniously. "Wow, Ani... this looks amazing."

Eager to try the food and see if it tastes as good as it looks, he hurried of to the other side of the table, and pulled the chair away elegantly, gesturing Ani to sit - just the way he had been taught a gentleman should.

A bit surprised at Adi's reaction, Ani needed a few milliseconds to realize what he was actually doing and how she was supposed to react. Staggering a little, she clumsily sat down on the chair. Waiting for Adi to sit down as well she examined the products of her work in the kitchen this day.

The chicken is nice and gold-brown, the pasta cooked al-dente, the salad seems fresh. Now all I have left is the two plates of creme bruleé still baking in the oven, so I mustn't forget the time.
Taking the cloth serviette from the table and putting it on her lap, she looked anxiously, yet excitedly at Adi.

"Prijatnogo appetita!" she said and smiled, while her stomach quite vocally rumbled. She acted as if nothing has happened, ignoring the fact that they were all alone and there was no way Adi could have missed the pleading sound of Ani's treacherous stomach.
