We have kind of touched over this lightly, ecspecially in around the music area, but what the hell... what does my skin color have to do with the way I act? Act? Who say's I am acting. Im not putting on a show for you. I am being myself, and if I am too "white" for you - eff of smile . Sorry - a brief little rant. Why is it that people of your race have such a problem when you don't "act" how you "should"? Just because I am black doesn't mean I am going to act like everyone else. I follow the beat of my own drum. Yeah you might catch me rockin so Apple Bottoms, or some new Rocawear shirt, but I might really be "rockin" listening to alternative music. Why does it bother people so much? Sorry, but I have been taught not to be a follower. If you think Ima go "finger wave it up" or put some peice in my hair that is green, think again, cause that's not me. Call me an oreo, or a wigger if you will, but at least I am secure with who I am. talk2hand [Bichplz]

My friend use to say that I acted white because I wasn't into things that a 'typically' black person would like.

Crystal Espers My friend use to say that I acted white because I wasn't into things that a 'typically' black person would like. 66 [I think this is what most people mean when they tell you you're "acting white." Isn't it funny how "acting white" is an insult, while "acting black" is a plus? Like black people will tell white people they are "trying to act black" if they are putting a considerable amount of effort into trying to act cool. 3nodding I suppose to some our sense of cool is key...they might not want to be discriminated against or pulled over for "DWB," or whated in stores, or share our stereotypes...but they'll take the "cool factor." Like the book title..."Everything but the burden." I think I spun off into a tangent...someone tell me if my statements don't make sense... xp ]

That's why I get discriminated against. I'm only half black, but I don't really look like it that much. It's a bit confusing because when I talk like my self, people call me white, when I talk like the *stereotypical black person* then people call me black. What is happenin to this world?

[I guess that's just how people are. *shrug*
These days though I'm meeting more and more black girls especially who don't have the typical "black person accent," but have an accent one would think typical for a white girl. I think it's a sign of the times. I like hearing different accents among people...makes things less boring. wink ]

(sorry for not being around much; holiday season, y'know.)
Ha, I've only been called an oreo once -- by a white guy who swore he was black. He said he was blacker than I was.
Which is why I laughed.

I've had other people criticise me for "trying to be white", usually by other whites. They think all black females are oversexed, fat, booty-shaking hoes with 4 or 5 baby daddies. I had to tell some white chick off the other day because she thought I was "faking it". I had to tell her that I am always like this and to get those stupid sterotypes out of her head, not all black women are like that.

The same thing happened to me where a white girl told me I was an "oreo." I believe it's mainly the forms of media that are putting those stereotypes in peoples' heads. People, no matter what race, need to get a grip and not believe that stuff.

The older people are set in their ways and the younger people are closed-minded because they learn it from the older people. xp ]
