It's been months now, since I've last drawn seriously. Last time, I tried for hours wasting nearly a hundred sheets of paper. I couldn't get anything done at all. Since I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I WANT THINGS MY WAY. D: I decided to give up. Relaxed and breezed through a few months~ Till now, I watched some movies, and since it's the holiday, heck why not draw a bit. I came to the same conclusion. I simply cannot do anything I used to be able to do.

Old artsy piece can be found here.

Which brings me to the question I was going to ask. -- What do you do during Artist Block?

Sit it out, hang tight my friend. Look for things that inspire of. Watch your fave show, or read a comic, play a game, look at a mag. Try things like that. razz

I often just draw some sort of a line, and start to sketch from there (kind of "what this lines look like"-things). I mean then, when I REALLY want to draw, but nothing comes in my mind. It's funny custom, because you never know, what there become :3

My ways of forcing through the block:
1)Watch, listen, or whatever means you use to experience things that are very well done art. I have found that this will sometimes kick off the block.

2)Purposfully do pieces that are not to be shown to anyone, or even kept as good, but don't toss it because it doesn't look right. By doing a task that has seemingly no value to it, but can be fun, you might trigger your skill.

I'm sorry you're suffering the block. It always sucks and it's always debilitating if you're an ambitious aspiring artist. sad

I notice when I get most blocks it's because my confidence is a little diminished or I'm dry on ideas. Sometimes it helps to try out new things, like a different kind of illustrating program or a different kind of color medium in your bedroom. Switching from prismacolor colored pencils to watercolors is one thing. And then branching out with the subject matter in pictures is a good technique. Try sketching from various perspectives if you're bored of the same old thing.

I've found another great way to fight the block is to know some artists online that you like, who have a style that you find attractive. I'm a Fullmetal Alchemist fan, so I like to watch alot of different artists who are also fans of it on Livejournal. XD;; Whenever a new chapter comes out for FMA, there is always new fanart coming up. And the same thing with awesome fanfics and alter-universe fanfic ideas. It works as a great creative outlet, and when I see other artists producing gorgeous art, it propels me to want to do the same constantly.

Studying other artists is probably the best answer- look for art in places you've not looked yet. Also, there may be some sort of stimuli that brings this block- anything out of the ordinary happen around the time of that last piece of work? Change in diet, stress, etc...

Me too, and I think that's worked pretty well. Just try to get your mind completely off the matter, watch tv/movies etc.

I also have the habit of "downloading the internet", that is, I always save myself a copy of any attractive image I see online. Sometimes they're just pics of hands, faces, folds of cloth, smudgy colours... If I feel down I just start browsing my folders, and usually something nice pops up and gives me some good idea for my works.

I listen to music and Browse DA.
My favorite bands are Death cab for a cutie, dismemberment plan, and greenday. My favorite DA artists are Fetalstar, joker-7, and prismachan.

I'm not sure what sort of things you like, but for me, since I'm addicted to the shape of the human body, I like watching dancers.

It helps to see your inspiration in motion, instead of just on tv...

Do you have any favorite artists? Try looking at their work,

Hope that helps. -.-;;
