GENERAL

Name: Adelbrecht Lacroix
Gender: male
Age: 18

Technician

Souls Attained: 0

LOOKS

User Image

Eye Color: inky blue
Hair Color: warm black (as in brownish black, not bluish black)
Skin Tone: pale
Height/Weight: 6'1'' / 150 lbs

Extra: Adelbrecht wears glasses, although that wouldn’t be absolutely necessary. His sight is only slightly deteriorated, and the doctor actually told him he needn’t wear glasses if he didn’t want to. However, that disadvantage in sight, despite how minor it was, bothered him greatly.
Sometimes he would wear a rather large gray beret hat when outside.

PERSONALITY

Likes: warm sunny days, good books, good food, sweets & cakes
Dislikes: being called Adi (be careful! – only his weapon has the permission to call him so), winter, bitter or spicy or foul smelling food
Hobbies: playing the violin (and he's rather good at it as well), playing basketball, writing (he is secretly writing a book, and struggling hard to hide that fact from everyone)
Fears: not being able to overcome all life’s obstacles
Quote:
“Doing things you excel at and excelling at things you do are two different things; I excel at both.”

Extra:
Adelbrecht is a very intelligent person, having always been the top of his class in his previous schools without much effort actually. However, he fails utterly when it comes to applying his intellect to real-life situations; while a debate on philosophy is a piece of cake for him, understanding and reasonably viewing a situation that involves or drastically impacts either him or those he considers his friends is nearly impossible for him. Instead of thinking twice, he would recklessly rush off to face the danger, while not knowing himself what he is about to do.

He is a perfectionist by nature, and always strives to be the best in everything he does – he is honestly disappointed if he’s not at least above average. However, he pretends to not care for such things on the outside, showing only his relaxed attitude to others. An outgoing person with a sunny disposition, a careful listener and a good talker; all of the above, Adelbrecht was raised to fulfill most of women’s ideals. It is maybe because of the fact that he tends to be favoured by many people that he had developed a streak of arrogance in his personality. However, luckily for him, his arrogance is still within the limits of being slightly overconfident – but it still does bring him trouble sometimes.

HISTORY

Birthplace/Home Town: Angeres of the Anjou province of the Pays de la Loire department in France
Birthday: 19th of March
Family: Adelbrecht is the only child of a French mother Dominique Lacroix and a German Father Ernst Feuerbach
- Lineage: The Lacroix family is said to originate from one of the branches of the house of Valois-Angoulême, a noble house descended from the kings Henry II and Henry III, the sons of which were dukes of the Anjou prefecture. However, this lineage is not officially confirmed or in any way verified.
Partner (not applicable to witches): Anastasia Sergeievna Volkova

Life's Story:
Adelbrecht is what one would call, a child of love. He had been born out of a love affair between the daughter of a prosperous bourgeois French family and a simple German man. They met when Dominique, Adelbrecht’s mother, was still studying at Paris-Sorbonne, living at her uncle’s. Both of them were students in their last year, Dominique in the comparative literature course, Ernst in the music and musicology course. Ernst had been watching Dominique for quite some time before gathering courage to start talking to her; he saw her three times per week, for they studied in the same library. Once, he simply strolled down to where she sat, took off his hat and bowed slightly, introduced himself, and asked her to go with him for a dinner. Of course, Dominique was shocked, but curious as well, so she accepted. It turned out that Ernst was an intelligent young man with a good sense of humour and a rather mild character, however of strong will; he had to work every day to earn money for the tuition and his small rented flat – to graduate at Sorbonne and become a well-known violinist was his dream.

Soon enough, Dominique and Ernst would start going out together – of course, their time spent together was narrowly limited, for Ernst had to work, and Dominique had to keep their relationship a secret from her family. However… upon graduating, Dominique had been three months pregnant, and they had to reveal their romance to her parents, announcing that they wanted to marry. An howl of outrage went up the family; the most upset, of course, was Dominique’s mother who had always emphasized the alleged kinship with the royal house of Valois-Angoulême, and thought herself an aristocrat, if not almost a countesse. The mother was still influential enough to make sure such a disgraceful wedding that would stain mud on the family name was prevented; Ernst had been forcefully deported back to Germany, and Dominique had to return home, to Angers. Her mother already had an appropriate husband in mind for her, who would marry her despite the fact that she was already pregnant with another man – but Dominique refused to say yes no matter what means of persuasion her mother used.

So it happened that on a cold morning in late March, a son was born without a father. Dominique had named him Adelbrecht; she chose a German name partially in the memory of Ernst, and partially to annoy and defy her mother. However, the old hag fell in love with the child the moment she laid her eyes on him, and cherished him as the most precious thing in the world. The little Adi was raised by his loving mother who devoted all her life to her child, and his grandparents who wanted to transfer all their knowledge to their little grandson. They shielded him from the outer world, anger, war and arguments, and even the mother and the daughter pretended to go along well for his sake.

In his early days, he had probably been the happiest child possible; her rarely cried, and he emanated a strange serenity, and his calm peacefulness influenced others as well. His dark blue eyes, like pools of calm water, looked into the world around him curiously, slowly noticing more and more things, eventually starting to see through the façade his family painted for him. However, he pretended not to notice just to keep them happy, merrily thinking they succeeded in protecting him from the outer world.

At the age of six, he discovered an old piano in the attic; he pressed a key and marveled at the sound echoing over the room. His mother, surprised at the excitement he showed at the most basic sound of music, let him listen to a few classical music CD’s she had – and it seemed the music absolutely enchanted him. So they got a private teacher; and of all instruments, Adelbrecht chose the violin, the instrument his father that never knew him played so well. He was exceptionally talented, and while he loved to play for his amusement and for his family members, he refused to perform in any sort of recital or participate in a contest. The music was for his soul, he said, and he wouldn’t share it with anyone else than the ones he loved.

Adelbrecht received his primary education at home; he had several private teachers besides his family members, and his education was the best France could offer. Being at home most of the time, with no children of his age in the vicinity, he closed himself into the world of music, literature and his fantasies. The family soon noticed that the boy had his head in the clouds, and worried, they wondered what was there to do. Soon enough, they reached a verdict: they would send the boy among the children of his age, and away from his home, to a high-class private boarding school. Suffice to say it was literally a cultural shock for Adelbrecht. That was actually the first time he interacted with people of his own age! Nonetheless, it did the trick – he became much more down to earth, and abandoned his fantasies, swiftly developing a kind open nature towards other people, learning to communicate and socialize with ease.

It was in the year before last in that school when his friends convinced him to join the fencing class – just for fun, they said. Thinking why not?, he joined them, and failed utterly. No matter what he did and how hard he tried, his attempts were a complete disaster. All of a sudden, there was something that he could not master! He was the top of his class without much effort, an excellent musician and a fairly good sportsman as well – now why was it that he couldn’t even be average in fencing?

His failure truly gave him a hard time, for he could not understand how there could be such a thing he would not excel at. He couldn’t sleep at night, and got distracted from his studies. Playing the violin, he would forget mid-piece what he was playing. And so, one day, the sudden realization struck him. He knew what was wrong – the weapon itself, the pose, the way you held it and wield it… it felt unnatural to him. It was like he tried to force his body to do something the other way it was used to – like trying to play tennis with badminton moves.

For months, he trained alone, sweating in a tiny unused gym, to find out what was natural to his body, to find his fighting style. His will to succeed was immense, and his zeal already bordered to obsession. Muscles started to form on his body, and his moves and gestures became more and more elegant, almost dance-like. After several months of rigorous training, he was ready. He crafted a weapon to suit him from wood, some kind of a blade held in hand, and attended the fencing class once again. He showed them what he had discovered, showed what his body was capable of – swift moves, spins and blocks, horizontal blows and rapid slashes with the strange weapon. They laughed at first, but fell silent soon, watching his dance-like fighting style in awe.

Adelbrecht felt fulfilled; he knew why he wasn’t able to do fencing, and he knew what his body was naturally capable of. One thing troubled him, however; he had never seen a weapon the likes he imagined to use in his style, and even the fencing trainer knew nothing of such weapon.

Less than a year after that, Adelbrecht had to choose the place of his future education. He was facing a large dilemma, for the choice will most likely determine the rest of his life. It was only then that did he learn of Shibusen; and remembering how fulfilled he felt whenever he was practicing his fighting style, and how he still had many mysteries to solve concerning that, he knew that was the best possible choice. Of course, there was the matter of convincing his mother and grandparents. After all, the school was across the ocean, meaning they wouldn’t see much of each other – not to mention its reputation and the suspiciously vague presentation booklet. However, all went well, for they saw it was what their beloved Adi truly wanted; and, never having seen him so excited about anything except from the day he discovered music, they let him go.

Only after having applied for and been accepted into Shibusen did Adelbrecht learn exactly what did the education at that academy entail. When he discovered the truth behind the vague descriptions of school activities from the pamphlet, it was like a whole new world opened up for him. He was shocked, of course, but also intrigued and determined to succeed. The first time in his life, he felt like he knew where he was going, and it felt great.

The first day at Shibusen was… well, interesting. He was already getting weary of introducing himself over and over again, when he had to repeat his name once more for the neat blonde, a foreigner, also from Europe as he learned later. Anastasia Sergeievna Volkova – that was the blonde’s name – surely was a good looking girl with a sweet smile; but that didn’t help her a bit when she called him Adi. Adelbrecht, although irritated, calmly explained to her that he strongly disliked being called that way, and that he would appreciate if she would address him by his full name. However, his warning didn’t seem to get through to her. For the rest of the day, she intently called him Adi every single time they met or spoke. Suffice to say that, by the end of the day, Adelbrecht was furious; the anger and annoyance slowly accumulated and build up in him, and when she called out to him “see you, Adi!”
he snapped.

Despite being well-mannered and raised to be a gentleman, Adelbrecht did not care that Anastasia was a woman at that time – acting on impulse, he launched himself towards her, fists clenched, aiming for her jaw. However, the girl evaded the attack with ease and countered back, but exactly the way Adelbrecht was expecting she will… And so they went on, fighting in the middle of the hallway, not able to land a single hit on the other one – for somehow, they both always knew what the other was up to, and saw through the opponent’s tactics. Quite the crowd gathered around them, watching the threatening dance of their fists, always missing their target.

Then, a teacher heard the noise and decided to check on what was happening. Noticing the crowd, he got suspicious, and made his way past the students to see what was of such interest – he was already suspecting a fight, but had to examine the situation first. However, just before the teacher could see them, Adelbrecht and Anastasia suddenly stopped fighting. Their eyes met, the burning rage storming within… and then, they collapsed to the ground, laughing like madmen. They assured the astonished teacher that absolutely nothing was wrong, and with their insane laughter slowly calming down, the crowd dispersed.

From that moment, it was clear to both of them that Adelbrecht will be the one to wield Anastasia, and that single incident crafted the bonds between them. They have become good friends, partners in fight, as well as rivals. Their relationship as a weapon and technician as well as friends is a stormy one; while they both care for each other deeply, they tend to hide that, instead teasing and provoking each other.
