Name: Lauretia (Everyone just calls her Lala)
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Craft: Trader
Rank: none
History: Lala and her family travel with several other trader family's in one big caravan of wagons that go from hold to hold trading both every day goods and luxury items. She has grown up in the saddle and on the trail and loves the sense of freedom they have, beholden to none, camping out beneath the open sky. She has two younger brothers and a younger sister. Pretty much everyone in the trading caravan is related in some way or other, so they are a very close knit group. As much as she loves traveling, Lala wishes she could spend more time in one place sometimes, and get the chance to get to know someone outside of her family circle.
She was picked up on Search while they were stopped at High Telgar Hold. She was going to turn the search rider down, but her family encouraged her to go, thinking it would be quite an honor to have a child at the Weyr, and not to mention possibly an 'in' with dragonfolk. Lala can take dragons or leave them. She's never done more than see them from afar, and so they don't really cross her mind much. She is curious as to what a Weyr looks like, though, and what life in one would be like.
Lala has definitely heard the rumors flying around about the plague, but doesn't let them bother her, despite the fact that she is apparently going to its current source. She figure she's a very healthy, strong young person so she's not likely to get infected. That and she doesn't put a lot of stock in rumor, being more of the type to say 'I'll believe it when I see it'.
Appearance: Lala is tall for a girl, about 5'11”. Her height is emphasized by her willowy frame, and is quite tan with a generous sprinkling of freckles across her features. Her hair is long, hanging down to the middle of her back, ash blond with highlights. She often wears it in double braids and almost always wears a head scarf to keep the shorter stray hairs around her face out of her way while she is riding or working.
She looks almost too thin, though she is actually very strong. What flesh she has on her spare frame is all muscle. She has a fine boned face with high cheek bones and a determined chin. Her eyes are heavy lidded with very long lashes that often make her look as though her eyes are closed when she is, in fact, watching very carefully.
Personality: Lala tends to be a very serious girl, and very down to earth. She is very honest, and is a terrible liar when she does feel the need to lie. It never turns out well for her so she is far more likely to just tell the truth. Part of her seriousness stems from having had a lot of responsibility since she was very young as part of their trading caravan. All the children there are given jobs from when they are quite young as everyone has to be able to carry their own weight in some way from the time they are old enough to walk and talk.
She hates it when people don't take responsibility for their actions, and has been known to scold people when she knows they are lying or trying to dodge punishment because they did something wrong. She is otherwise a very patient person, always willing to give someone a second chance. Lala is rather lacking in the sense of humor department though. Jokes and the like tend to go right over her head and she will try and make literal sense of them until she realizes the person was joking. She is a little rough around the edges as far as manners and the like go, having grown up eating around a campfire and in the saddle while on the move (not that she chews with her mouth open, but she tends to eat very fast and makes no bones about eating with her fingers when necessary). Social niceties tend to be a bit beyond her as well. She dislikes people who say one thing and do another, and people who are nice to people they actually dislike, especially if its for some personal profit. Lala equates this to lying and she doesn't like liars.
She can be, what some would call impudent. When she does give her opinion on something, she's very decided about it, and unless you show her very solid evidence to the contrary, she won't be talked out of it. She doesn't care who you are, or what your rank is. Unless you're a craft master and you're talking about your own craft, then you had better have some good proof to get her to change her mind on anything. Needless to say, this can be very aggravating for the people around her.
Other: I'd like Lala to be a candidate for the Dog Clutch at HR, so hopefully you don't close the sign ups before you take another look at the character submissions!
