When I think of just "Jew" I feel it's...deragatory but I cant place my finger on why. Forgive me, but it makes me think of someone saying.."Greedy Jew!"
Do ya'll prefer "Jewish people/person"? To me, it sounds a bit more respectful...I dont know gonk

Depends on how it's said and by whom.

Do ya'll prefer "Jewish people/person"? To me, it sounds a bit more respectful...I dont know gonk 'Jew' or 'Jewish Person?' It's all the same to me. I really couldn't care less. At all. I don't see anything wrong with 'Jew.' For cryin' out loud, I'm 'Lumanny the Space Jew', not 'Lumanny the Space Jewish Person!' I mean, if you say ' Jew' all mean and condescending, then of course I'm offended. But I'd be offended at ' Jewish Person,' too, if someone said it like that. Or at anything at all when said in that tone.

Like when people tried not to be racist so they said African Americans instead of blacks.
I think it depends on the person, though.

XxBroken_And_ShatteredxX Someone got pissed at me for calling a fictional person middle-classed... Damn. People are too easily offended these days... And I'm poor! Its not offending I'm so scared of, it's genuinely hurting feelings. I feel there is a large difference between the two, and the latter is what I strive NOT to do.

I know a girl who's part Jewish and who seriously uses the word "Jew" in place of curse words (ie, "Oh, Jew! I just stubbed my toe!"). It's kind of... weird.
Anyway, if the word sounds derogatory, it's not because there's something actually offensive about the term "Jew," it's that people who dislike Jews say it in such a way that makes it sound bad. It's the same thing with the word "Mexican." I hear people saying "Mexican" all the time like it's a bad word, and I read recently that a company somewhere in Europe actually tried to have the word banned because it was becoming such a derogatory term. Anyway, I guess my point is that it's not the word itself, it's how people say it and what they mean by it.

I'm not exactly the best Jew in the world, so I may not be the best one to answer this but really I don't give a f-... care. I don't give a care.

No such thing as part-Jewish, dearie. I assume you mean one parent was Jewish? If it was the mom, then she's Jewish. If her mom wasn't Jewish and she didn't convert in, she's not Jewish.

Yes, she is ethnically Jewish on her mom's side, though as far as religion goes her entire family is Mormon. She always refers to herself as being part Jewish, so I was just kind of repeating the phrase.

It all depends on context.
I am writing an essay now on Christianity, Judaism, and Islam and I use the term "Jew."
If I was a Jew, I think if someone going out of their way to say "Jewish person" to be politically correct instead of Jew, then I'd be offended. But I'm strange, so whatever.

I said to my Jewish professor's face "You'd think they'd learn what a damn yarmulke is before they go to Jewland (Israel)" and she thought about it for a second, then started laughing. I also used Jew throughout an essay and presentation on Nazi plundered Judaic art.
