Run. That was the only thought going through his mind. Keep running; don’t stop. Don’t look back, he knew not to look back. Chancing a look over his shoulder would cause him to loose his balance and possibly fall again. Falling would only allow Thanos to catch up. Well he wasn’t sure if his father was still chasing him or not. After all the large stallion had seemed somewhat distracted by a mare as he chased his son away. And he hadn’t felt the stallion hot breath or teeth on his back in quite some time. But that was no reason to stop now. No, he would stop when he body just couldn’t keep going anymore. His tail was tucked tightly between his legs as he ran, ears pulled back in fear. Eyes were wide with fear and his breathing was labored but he refused to stop.

He wasn’t sure how much longer that would be. But for now the adrenaline was pumping through his veins, pushing him to continue on. Run. His sides heaved as his legs carried him further from what was familiar to him. The herd, though they never accepted him, was somewhat of a safe haven for him. There he knew no harm would fall to him, his mother made sure of that. She was much like he was. Normal in appearance, but deep down they were not normal. It still confused him as to why a horse like his mother ended up with a horse like his father. That’s one question that he would not have the answer to today. Perhaps he would never find the answer. At this point none of that mattered, all he cared about was running.

How long had he been running for? Well he wasn’t sure, but the sun was beginning to set so he guessed quite a while. Now a new fear gripped him. He slowed his pace down to a walk, lungs burned and muscles wanted to just give up at this point. He no longer feared his father catching up to him. The stallion had given up quite some time ago. No, now he was afraid of being alone, truly alone, for the first time. Even as the reject of the herd he had his mother to comfort him from time to time. But here he had nothing. Only his fears were with him now. They would keep him company tonight. Well that wasn’t the most pleasant thought, but it was better than dwelling on his other thoughts. They would all catch up to him eventually, so for now he would accept this.

Bringing himself to a stop he finally looked behind him. There was no large black shape chasing him anymore. Just the sight unfamiliar trees and grass. He was unsure of exactly how far he had run. But there would be no going home tonight. Likely he wouldn’t be able to find his way home anyways. He had run blindly this entire time, unsure of when he turned or followed a path. If he did ever make it home again, well he wasn’t sure what would happen to him. His mother would likely be happy to see him. His father...well chances were he would try to kill him. The others probably didn’t care either. Even his sisters would likely be glad to see him gone. Well perhaps not Agony, she seemed to love him like a sibling should. He would miss her greatly, but certainly he would miss his mother most of all.

Now he had a new problem. Where would he sleep tonight? This place was unknown to him; danger could be lurking behind any bush or tree. And a second problem then occurred to him as a rumble came from his stomach. Running meant not eating for a long time. Well food he could easily find, he was practically surrounded by it. Letting out a sigh he lowered his head and picked up a mouthful of grass. It tasted bitter to him. For some reason he never liked the taste of grass, it was like he was supposed to eat something else. But what else could he eat? All the others in the herd ate grass, so why shouldn’t he. Teeth unhappily ground up the grass, each time they pressed down on the blades his mind shuddered at the sound it made as well as the horrible taste it put in his mouth. Ugh, how did the others so willingly eat this stuff? Did horses outside of his fathers herd also eat this wretched stuff? Or was it just a Hell Herd thing?

Swallowing the mouthful he took another as he let his small eyes roam over the area. Scooping up another mouthful of grass with a shudder he sighed once more. Well, he thought, those bushes over there could keep him warm for the night. Taking a step closer he sniffed the air, body shaking a bit in fear of what may come jumping out if he got to close. With each step he shook a bit more until he was completely trembling once he reached the bush. Giving it a light kick with his hoof, he jumped back as the branches rustled. Oh, it had been him that made it do that. He stuck his head underneath the bush to double check. Well he didn’t see any creatures here. Lowering himself to the ground he thrashed around a bit trying to wedge his body underneath this low-lying bush. This wasn't the most ideal spot for him to sleep, if anything came up upon him in the night surely he would not be able to easily run away. But then again perhaps whatever beast did find him would be deterred by the thorny bush.

Once inside he curled his body into a tight ball. He was cold, so cold and scared. He would give anything to have the warmth and love of his mother right now. His trembling didn’t help his sore muscles at all and he let out a whimper as the soreness caught up to him. His eyes started to droop but he fought off sleep for right now. He was afraid that if he fell asleep something would come and eat him in the middle of the night. Slowly, ever so slowly he succumbed to sleep. He had fought it for as long as he could. But he was still young, and he couldn’t stop his body from getting what it needed.

Finally a familiar sight. He was home. He had been traveling for so long now, searching for that place he had once called home. He let out a happy whinny as he got closer. He didn't see his father, which was probably a good thing, but right now he didn't care. He was only concerned with finding his mother. To feel her loving touch again and hear her gentle voice. She would be so relieved to see that he had survived all this time.

Ducking into the trees where he had spent the first few days of his life he looked about for Regret. "Mother." He called out hoping that she was nearby. Then he heard something not far away. Gulping down his fears he pressed onward in the direction of the sound. Another bank of trees and his eyes fell upon a very familiar sight. His mother. "Mother!" He said enthusiastically and hurried over to her. Regret did not look up as he called to her, but merely stood there staring at the ground.

Walking around her to let her see it was her beloved son returning he was greeted by the most horrific sight. Regret's body was now decayed much like that of his father and sisters. Skin hung down from her face. Sad eyes refused to look at Nameless. "No." He said, giving his head a shake, this can't be. But as he circled her he realized that what he looked at was reality. "NO!"

A snarl escaped his maw jarring him from his sleep. Thrashing against the encroaching bush the black colt freed himself violently from the foliage. His red eyes scanned the area looking for what had disturbed his sleep. There wasn’t anything here. Just him, the now destroyed bush and plenty of the unfamiliar. It had all been a dream. Right? Giving his body a violent shake to rid himself of the leaves and twigs that stuck to his fur. What the hell was he doing out here? Then he remembered. That b*****d of a father had chased him away from his home. Why had he been so stupid to let him get away with that? He should have stood up to the stallion and forced him to let him stay…or die!
PostPosted: Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:27 pm

That thought made the colt let out a sadistic laugh. Just imagine the look in his father’s eyes if the unwanted son beat him down in front of his herd. Then they would need to show him respect. Movement caught his attention and made his forget that train of thought. Something small and furry was skittering away from the colt’s noise. Without thinking he sprang towards the creature, chasing it for a good distance before his hooves finally landed a lethal blow. “Think you can outrun me!” He cackled at the corpse, flipping it over with his small hooves to see just what it was. A rabbit from the looks of it, though the body was pretty mangled. It had felt so good to kill. It brought something inside of him to life and he laughed.

Bending his head he picked up the limp body of the rabbit, holding it like a trophy. Head held high he pranced around the area as if showing it off to any creature that may be lurking in the early morning shadows. The blood that from the rabbits body into his mouth caused his mind to spin. This taste…this is what he was meant to eat. Not that disgusting grass that the others filled their bellies with. He needed meat. Meat would sustain him much better than those stupid green shoots ever would. Setting the rabbit down he began to tear it apart with his teeth. It certainly wasn’t an easy task, horses teeth were designed for grazing, not cutting through flesh. But he managed…somehow. Gulping down the first piece of meat a shiver went through his body. Oh it tasted so good. Tearing another strip of flesh from the carcass the colt chewed it slowly, savoring the taste and texture of it in his mouth.

Soon the rabbit was nothing but a pile of bones. Poking at the bones he was disappointed that it was gone already. He would need to look for more of this kind of food. It would involve much more effort than grazing but he couldn’t say no to the taste. Smacking his blood covered lips he looked around. There was something else he needed. Giving his head a light shake he began to walk in some random direction. Maybe he would run into whatever it was he wanted over here. Well after a good deal of walking he still hadn’t found what he was looking for. So he changed course determined to not give up until he found what he wanted. This time his ears were rewarded with the sound of that which he sought out. Water was up ahead, a small stream from what he could tell. Quickening his pace to a trot he reached the water quickly.

Well this wasn’t that much different than the small brook that ran through the place he once called home. Home. That word made him snarl. He hated that place. Everything about it; especially his father. One day he would return home and pay his father a nice little visit. Then he would prove that he was indeed strong and not an abomination. Lowering his head as he came to the edge of the brook he took his first drink of the cool water. Oh yes, this was the other thing he needed. It was refreshing after that rabbit. Lifting his head he looked about before going back to drinking. He took large mouthfuls of water washing down the fur that was lodged in his throat. Once his stomach seemed satisfied with the amount of water he had taken in he lifted he head a bit, looking at his reflection in the water.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:34 pm

He let out a scream. Why was he covered in blood? Back pedaling from the brook the small colt tripped over a rock and went tumbling into the dirt. Trembling with fear he scrambled to his hooves. Had something attacked him? Oh god, had his father caught up to him. His head spun around looking around to see if the scary black stallion was around. His heart was beating madly in his chest. Breathing was erratic as his eyes scanned the area again. Was his father going to jump out from behind a tree if he dropped his guard? Slowly he regained his composure. He was safe here. Well as safe as a foal on it’s own could be. One hesitant step after another he returned to the small brook. This time though he was prepared to see the blood on his face as he glanced at the water. It still horrified him but he was able to force his legs to stay still long enough to dip his muzzle into the water and try to wipe it off. Using a rock that lay underneath the waters surface the colt rubbed his face upon it until it hurt just to be sure no blood was left behind.

Raising his head from the brook he gave it a light shake. His legs were pretty unsteady right now. He had spent the good part of the previous day running for his life and now he wasn’t sure if he could stand much longer. Lowering himself to the ground he lay there at the edge of the brook, tail dipped into the water fighting back tears. He missed his mother so much. He wanted to hear her loving words, feel her gentle touch on his shoulder. But that would not happen. She was too far away to comfort him now. He knew she would miss him and perhaps yell at his father for doing what he did. His head shot up at the thought of his father. Paranoia leeched from the foal as he once again looked around, wondering when the attack would come. His father didn’t want him to live so surely he would track him down and finish what was started. A tear rolled down his cheek. Why did so many bad things have to happen to him? Why couldn’t his family just love him like his mother had. The more he thought about her, the harder he cried until he finally lay on his side sobbing.
