I've just started taking voice lessons and I need to pick some songs to start with. I'm a soprano and I want to sing songs from musical theatre because I'm a big musical nerd.
Does anyone have suggestions of soprano solos from musical theatre that are a little bit challenging, but for a relative beginner? (I've been singing in a smallish vocal ensemble for 3 years and have had a bit of performance experience both solo and in groups but I've never had private lessons before)

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, from Phantom of the Opera is a good one to start with. It is difficult, but is VERY beautiful when masterd. I'm singing it at my friends memorial on Saturday.

Ah, really? I feel like it's kind of more mezzo-y, but I dunno. It's kind of low in the range. Very pretty though, yes.

I had a list of "musical theatre songs for legit singers" bookmarked, but it seems to have been deleted...but stuff will come up if you google it, for sure.

It's a 1st because if you look at the higher notes, they're out of range for MOST 2nds. But I have been proven wrong before.
