The grey stallion slowed to a trot as he came within a few hundred yards of the herd. He had been traveling for months and was exhausted by his journey. However, he hadn't been able to come home until he had scouted out all of the herds like he had promised Thanos that he would. Unfortunately that had taken far longer then he had originally planned on taking. Vengeance just hoped that the herd hadn't forgotten about him while he was gone, and that that sleezebag Rowan hadn't been able to wiggle his little slimy self into Thanos' good graces.

Vengeance slowed to a walk as he reached the rest of the horses. The stallion might have noticed a few foals running about if he had not been so concentrated on trying to find the black stallion Thanos. He needed to report to him right away and hope for the best. This could be his chance to prove just how loyal he had been and how useful he could be.

Thanos was standing off a good distance from his herd, silently watching them. His three fillies were growing stronger each day, this made him...happy? Yes, happy was the right way to describe it. He knew that he should not be feeling such a weak emotion, but Regret had the same effect on him. At least he was still a hate filled soul, and his happiness was more based on how well they would serve him in the future than what they were now. Soon he would begin molding them to his ideals and training them to be his warriors, but for now he was willing to sit back and watch them grow a bit each day.

His eye caught movement at the edge of his hear and he turned his head to see what was happening. A grey stallion walked among his herd, looking as if he perhaps knew them or was looking for an individual. Deep in his memory Thanos was certain he knew this stallion but for the life of him couldn't figure out how. "Who is that one?" He asked his rats, motioning his muzzle towards the stallion.

War scrambled up to the top of Thanos' head to get a better look. "That's Vengeance. He was with us when we left Hell but has been gone for many months."
"Indeed." Peace added as he followed War up to perch on Thanos' head as well. "He left to scout out the other herds for you many months ago, seems he must have finished his duty then."

Thanos listened to his rats, anger rising with each word. He had been gone all those months looking for others when he should have been here helping with the herd. More importantly he should have been here to help with Regret when she needed it. That made something snap inside of him. Well if this stallion thought he was going to get a warm reception home then he was highly mistaken. Letting out a shrill whinny Thanos galloped over to his herd, the other horses quickly got out of his way and regrouped a bit further away. "So you have returned after all this time?" He said as he came to a stop in front of Vengeance, his voice dripping with anger.

The grey stallion was quite taken aback by his leader's tone. Was Thanos really angry with him? He was sure that the head stallion would have been happy that he had brought him news of the other herds, or had he forgotten? Vengeance hesitated for a moment, trying to think of what to say. Just tell him the truth? Well there really wasn't anything else to tell.

"Thanos I bring you news of the other herds as you asked me to." He started. Should he say more? "I wouldn't have taken so long but some of them were far spread and I wanted to watch their movements, see how many their numbers were and how far their range of land was."

The stallion's heart was racing a little bit now. Perhaps he had taken too long on his journey. Whatever it was, he had somehow upset his leader and it was unlikely to turn out well for him. Especially if Rowan really had weaseled his way into the leader's good graces.

Listening to what the other stallion had to say Thanos was snorting with each breath. What did Vengeance really think they could win his place back in the herd with this little bit of information. What about the herd? And Regret? Why had he not been here when Thanos had needed him the most. Perhaps it was stupidity that made the grey stallion return after all this time. Well Thanos was not going to give him a warm welcome, or any true welcome for that matter. "And what of your duties within the herd? Where were you when I needed you?" His voice got louder and angrier with each word.

"He had shown so much potential when we first came back. Now I see he is as useless as the rest."
"He may still have potential you know."
"Shut up! He is worthless now!"

War was right. Vengeance was worthless and to think at one time Thanos had thought the younger stallion might make good Beta material. Now, after this, after him showing no interest in the herd itself he wondered why he ever thought so. Had he been blinded by other things so badly? His eyes moved to the rest of the herd a ways off, they may be lazy but at least they stayed together to be their for when he needed them. Even his own foals showed more potential than Vengeance did now.

When the Thanos needed him? That didn't sound too good. Actually the whole situation wasn't looking very good for him. The grey stallion was still quite confused as to what he had done wrong. Thanos had asked him to scout out the herds so he had. There had been plenty of other horses in the herd capable of helping out. Was he missing something? Vengeance had only done what he had been asked to do.

"I was doing what you needed me to do." He said firmly. Things were already going downhill as it was so he might as well stand his ground. Maybe if Thanos saw that he wasn't going to just sit there and take it he would see he wasn't just one of those mindless zombies. "You wanted someone to scope out the herds for future attacks and such. So I did what you needed me to do. I gathered the information for you. As far as whatever you needed you have a herd full of a bunch of mindless idiots who could have done whatever you needed." The stallion immediately regretted his last words but stood his ground anyway.

Thanos took a step close to Vengeance, ears flicked about in anger and frustration. What I needed him to do? What I had needed was for him to be here, he thought. Don't think these things, say them, his mind yelled at him. "Do you honestly think I wanted you running off to check on the herds and be gone for months on end?" Another step closer, at this rate he would be pushed against Vengeance's face in a matter of steps. "What about your duties to the herd here? When I needed you the most you were not around."

"Yeah, even Rowan knew better than to run off on some pointless mission."
"Oh give him a break would you, he has clearly be traveling for some time."

What War said made his ear flick again. Ah yes, Rowan, his faithful Beta. He had been here every moment of each day and night, ready to do whatever must be done for Thanos and the herd. "I had seen so much potential in you when we first came back." He sneered. "But now I see that I had been wrong. Rowan was here for me when you were not. He fulfilled his duties to the herd well." Thanos glanced at the herd again. There was Rowan, his faithful Beta standing near Regret and the three fillies who were growing bigger and stronger every day. "Look around you Vengeance. The herd has flourished in your absence. We have gone stronger in number as well as in mind and body. Rowan has kept track of all the herds which are nearest to us and now we are ready to strike. Perhaps your absence was for the best. Perhaps we needed you to leave in order to learn our true strength."

Vengeance's ears flattened back and his lips pulled up in anger. How dare Thanos treat him like he didn't belong to the herd. He had suffered a great deal in Hell and it had not all been for nothing. Perhaps he had been gone a few months, but compared to the information that he had gained, it was nothing. Vengence let out a snort of disgust. Thanos might be ranked higher then him but the stallion was not going out without a fight.

Rowan may have been back here keeping track of these pitiful surrounding herds but Vengeance new the land now. He knew what lay outside of this tiny bit of land that their Alpha had confined them too. Thanos was a fool for not wanting the information, for not thanking him. Did he honestly think that with so few in numbers they would be able to take more then one herd at a time? And what was supposed to happen to them when the rest of the herds banded together?

"So you've had a few foals. They're week. It'll be years before they're ready for any sort of combat. We're only as strong as our Alpha, but I can see you've had a change of heart. True strength? Don't bet on it. You've been too soft on the outsiders. I can see that new mare looks entirely too normal. Where'd you pick her up?" Vengeance knew his words were fighting words, but he'd had enough of being pushed around.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:53 pm

Eyes turned a dark shade of red, that was more like black with an undertone of red. Vengeance had hit a sore spot calling his foals weak and his mare normal. He did not need this stupid stallion saying such things about this family. "My children are not weak!" He snapped, nostrils flaring. "Do you yourself not look normal! Do not insult my mate so easily Vengeance."

"Kill him, kill him, kill him!" War screamed.
"Oh no, here he goes." Peace mumbled and crawled to the safety of Thanos' mane.

Thanos took another step forward, though his mind screamed at him to kick out at the other stallion. "You dare tell me that I have done wrong after you have been gone for so long? You think you have the position in this herd to do so?" He snorted in Vengeance's face. Enough talk, his mind yelled at him, or perhaps it was War, he couldn't tell at this point. His anger was clouding any rational thought he had. Show his you are now soft! Ears pinned back and his kicked out with his left hoof, at the same time his head thrust forward, teeth barred and ready to sink into the stallions flesh.

So this is what it would come to. Thanos' lust for blood would finally be satiated by one of his own. No, Vengeance was not one of his herd members. He had abandoned the herd when they needed him. Thanos had been a fool to have ever thought that Vengeance would make a Beta. He didn't need him anymore, he had Rowan, and the roped stallion was far more willing to do his bidding that Vengeance ever would.

Now what had he done? Vengeance didn't honestly want to fight his leader, er, exleader. He really had wanted to serve the stallion as best as he could but it had appeared that Thanos wasn't going to allow him back in. Well, now he really had done it. The grey stallion wasn't sure what he had been thinking he would accomplish by fighting the stallion but he couldn't back down now, not without at least trying. He'd already run from Rowan and was not about to run again.

Vengeance prepared himself for a fight and had already been watching the stallions hooves before he even kicked out. Unfortunately Vengeance hadn't had any more experience in fighting since his run in with Rowan and hadn't been watching Thanos' head and moved right into the bite as he avoided the black stallion's hooves. The grey stallion cried out in pain and anger as he felt teeth sink into his flesh and he lashed out blindly at the other stallion.

Thanos' eyes turned a more blood red as his teeth sank into Vengeance's neck. The cry the other stallion let out made Thanos' adrenaline pump faster. This just proved that Vengeance was too weak to be a part of the herd. A true Hell Herd member knew how to fight. Giving his head a shake in an attempt to rip more of Vengeance's flesh from his neck Thanos felt a hoof connect his chest. He did not cry out in pain, pain didn't truly exist to him, it was more of an inconvenience. But either way he took a small step back, blood dripping from his teeth. "You are weak Vengeance." He snarled as he reared up, hooves kicking out at the younger stallion.

"Yes, that is it, kill him! Make his suffer!"
"You don't have to do this you know." Peace called out from his hiding spot in the black stallions mane.

The grey stallion took only a brief moment to steady himself. He had his hooves make contact with Thanos' chest and was pleased. However, he was still wounded and hadn't really done any damage to the Alpha. The wound on his neck oozed blood and stung a little, but for now he would be fine. It was only a flesh wound and so long as he cleaned it up he would live.

Vengeance never once took his eyes off of Thanos. The black stallion was stronger then he was, that was obvious. He needed to try to outthink the other stallion, his only problem was he didn't really remember how to fight much. In Hell he had been rather lifeless and didn't recall a lot from his past life. Ignoring the stallion's comment, Vengeance paused. Why waste his strength charging Thanos when he could simply wait and try to counter the attack? It seemed reasonable enough to him.

Thanos planted his hooves back on the ground. There was no reason to continue this fight, Vengeance was a weakling not worthy of being killed by Thanos. "You disappoint me greatly Vengeance." If the younger stallion wished to continue the fight then so be it, but Thanos honestly could see that Vengeance was not a fighter. Such a pity, he had shown so much potential when he first came out of Hell.

"What are you doing? Finish him off now!"
"No, don't do that, just let him go."
"Shut up! This isn't your fight."
"Nor is it yours!"

"I want you out of here! You do not belong in this herd anymore!" Thanos yelled at the grey stallion. Part of his wished that Vengeance could stay, but showing him any forgiveness now would just show his herd that he was weak. No, he had to do this, especially with his daughters watching, he had to force this once friend out.

The gray stallion had stood waiting, watching the stallion's every move and was shocked that Thanos had not struck him again. Vengeance had honestly believed that the Alpha was going to kill him. He hesitated for only a split second before making up his mind. There was no need to continue to the fight his old Alpha. He would only end up worse off then he was now and he the stallion was not going to give in. No, it would be best for him to flee, as cowardly as it was. He could plot his revenge, wait and then come back when he had his strength. This was not the last that the black stallion would see of him, he would make sure of it.

Without a word, and with those thoughts in mind, the stallion turned and bolted.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:44 pm

As Vengeance turned and ran off like a scared little girl Thanos knew he had made the right decision. Vengeance was weak, far too weak to be in this herd. "Do not come back Vengeance!" He yelled after the stallions retreating form. "For if you do, it will be your death!"

"What are you doing? Run after him, finish the kill!" War chirped angrily. How dare Thanos not finish what he started.
"No, let him go. He knows not to come back."

"He is dead to me." Thanos angrily snapped at the rats. Vengeance had had so much potential and now - now he was no better than that abomination of a son that Thanos had. Weak and deserving no place within the herd. Turning he walked towards his herd, where his daughters and mate were. They were the future of this herd now. They would prove to be great warriors.
