Things in Evie's world have been very, very wonderful lately. There was her marriage, and the wonderful family that'd she'd acquired (Even the 'boys', as Jesse called them, weren't that bad). There was one final thing that she wanted, and that was a baby.
"I hope this'll work..." She murmured, reaching for Jesse's hand as they sat in the waiting room of the fertility clinic. "If it doesn't, we don't have to try more."
She was worried. Terribly worried. It'd been probably ten years since she had tried to get pregnant, only to find that she had fertility troubles. She was hoping, with the time and changes in medicine, this time she'd get a more positive result.

"Honey, take a deep breath."
Married life was working very well for Jesse. Sy had a mother officially now, and he was spending his time with the woman he loved. There had been a family discussion about the whole baby idea, Silas and Horatio having been involved, and all had decided that it was worth a try.
"We'll try until it happens. Don't get discouraged."

Another couple was just leaving the clinic when Evie and Jesse were arriving. Selma looked up and rolled her eyes, not willing to do more work. Luckily the doctor was just coming out of his office.
"Hello there," he greeted them cheerfully.

"Ah!" Evie said, squeezing her husband's hand. "Ah, hello~ We're Evelyn and Jesse Goodwin. We're here for our appointment?"
Evie took a bit of a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. When she was excited or nervous, she tended to ramble. currently, she was both.

Jesse just leaned over slightly and kissed Evie's temple. Everything would be alright. He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and reached up to stroke her hair. His poor honey.

A truly cute couple. Ronchas nodded. "Perfect timing. At this rate, I'll be able to finsh today's work early."
He was in a good mood today, which was somewhat hard to tell from his usual demeanor, but it was true. "If you'll follow me to my office," he said, turning around to lead the way.

"Of course!" Evie followed, still holding her husband's hand. "We've heard wonderful stories about your clinic, and we thought that it couldn't hurt to try..."
Oh, silly, nervous little lady.

Jesse just laughed. The poor woman was rambling. Poor thing. He gave her hand another squeeze and followed the doctor with a bit of wonder.

Cute indeed. Ronchas chuckled while he was turned away but managed to straighten his face again when they reached his office.
"Our clinic has the privilege of helping less fortunate couples who are having trouble conceiving. I believe you mentioned on the phone that you were," he wanted to make sure to put this delicately. "...having similar trouble several years ago?"

"Yes." Evie said, looking down. "It's been about ten years since then, though, so I figured it couldn't hurt to look into the options that're available now." She squeezed Jesse's hand again. Her husband was a good man. He'd love her, barren or no.

Jesse's jaw set and he ground his teeth. How dare the rat b*****d bring that up? What the Hell did that have to do with anything?! Not only was he bringing up a terrible point in Evie's life, he was bringing up that rotten b*****d.
He stayed quiet only because he knew his wife would want him to.

Ronchas either didn't notice or chose to ignore the rising anger of the husband and concentrated on the woman with the problem. (Besides, any clinic would tell you, you had to go over prior complications before you could get past them. If any mistake was made, it could cause even further complications.)
"It seems you're taking hormone medications," he noted from the file. "Have they been helping in the related areas?"

...seriously? Was this guy retarded or something? Now, Jesse knew what he was thinking was mean and had enough peace of mind to not speak his thoughts. He was, however, quite a bit annoyed.
"How ******** should we know?" he asked, not quite snapping or demeaning but obviously upset, "Ain't that why we're here?"

"Jesse," Evie scolded gently. "He's just getting information. People are supposed to be thorough."
Really, it didn't bother Evie too much. That was a part of her life that she'd closed years ago, but if it could help them now she'd gladly go over it. Jesse was a far better man than her first husband had been.
"They did not help, no. I suppose I'm pretty well broken, but it can never hurt to try, right?"

Ronchas only smiled at Jesse, paying no attention to the content or tone of his words. He turned back to Evie.
"Of course it doesn't," Ronchas assured her. "And I pride myself on my determination. If you are still unable to conceive, I will never charge a penny. Never a penny."
He wrote a few notes in the folder, next to the information about her previous problem.
"I believe the serum will probably be the only solution," he finally replied. "And it hasn't failed yet, well, at least not in it's present state. I believe it is perfected now." He nodded, as though agreeing with himself. "We've helped so many couples who were unable to conceive with conventional fertility drugs or even with artificial insemination."
