 Aiche lay her scarred, battered body on the soft grass of the meadow, assuring herself that she'd only rest for a moment before moving on. Even she had to rest now and then, much as she hated the necessity, it was such a waste of time! The only good thing was that it gave her energy to move on to her next adventure. Who knew what was behind the next tree, or over the next hill?
Aiche's body told of a rough life lived with more energy than care. She was almost more stitches than skin, and only the fact that it all matched and an unease with any other option indicated that the skin was all her own, so patched together was she. She'd lost the use of her right eye just recently, and stitches held the lid shut over the useless orb. Recently scuffed knees bore testament to numerous stumbles caused by the narrowed field of vision. The remaining eye, however, bore a mischievous twinkle at odds with the beaten appearance. One look said that, battered or no, this mare was far from beaten.

A soft tune could be heard coming from the grass in the meadow. Bounding, much like a deer... or, at least trying to, a young colt hummed a random song that 'played' through his head. He was still fairly new to this world, having been out of his basket for a few days. This was apparent by his mother keeping him secluded to the meadow for the time being. The dark foal continued forward, his attention hopping to every little thing that moved or made noise, multi-colored spots easily seen through the grass. Going a bit further, his black eyes spotted a white shape in the grass ahead of him. With a curious tilt of his head, he started to bound toward it, still humming his 'song'. The shape started to become more familiar to him, as a horse, as he got closer. Realizing this, he smiled and increased his speed.

Aiche was woken from her light slumber by what sounded like a small herd of horses galumphing through the meadow. With a start, she shot to her feet and looked around with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. She laughed softly at herself when she finally pin pointed the origin of the ruckus: a single colt.
"Hey there youngling. Where's the fire?"

Oh, what he saw was bigger than he thought. Or was it because they were lying down? Or that he was just a foal? It could also be both. Either way, he skidded to a stop in front of the mare and looked up to her, grinning.
"Hi! Fire?! Where?!" With that, he started to spin around, nervously looking around for any signs of said fire.

She chuckled. "Never mind, I must have been imagining things."
She looked at the foal, blinking her good eye. She had never seen such bright colors on a horse before. "Did you decide to bathe in a rainbow this morning or something?"

The foal tilted his head at the mare, her appearance not even registering. "You can imagine fires? Is that dangerous?" He asked.
When she mentioned bathing in a rainbow, he giggled and danced in place. His tail flicked happily at the thought, but then had to wonder how one would do that. "I didn't know you can take a bath in a rainbow! Can you take me to one so I can try?!"

Aiche gave him an odd look. "You can imagine anything you can, well, imagine. Fires, creatures, adventures, anything. It's not usually dangerous, as long as you can tell it apart from what's real."
The foal really was gullible, but in an innocent way that she thought rather endearing. "Well, it has to rain first, but you have to be able to see some sunlight while it's raining. Then you find a rainbow and follow it to the right. Always to the right, if you try to follow it to the left you'll never find it, it fades away. You follow it until you find where it reaches the ground, and there will be a rainbow spring, where the rainbow comes from, and you can bathe in it. But be careful, if the rainbow fades before you find it, the spring will just look like normal water, so you won't know if you found the right one or not. And sometimes it moves around, when one spring becomes too weak and has to refresh itself." She nodded as if all this were common knowledge, wondering if the little foal would buy it.

The spotted colt looked up at the mare as she explained what one could imagine. "You can tell when things aren't real when you can walk right through them!" He told her with an almost sage-like nod, as if it was fact.
When she started to explain to him how one could bathe in a rainbow, he listened intently. As she talked, he found himself softly humming a small tune, almost like having his own soundtrack to the tale being told. After she was done, he whinnied happily and quickly glanced up to the sky as if it would rain at any moment. "That's just so cool! Hey, want to find a rainbow spring with me?!"

Not wanting the colt to get himself into danger trying to walk through things he shouldn't, she thought quickly of a response. "Ah, little one, but what if you try to walk through a real leopard, with big claws and sharp teeth, and he decides to have you for lunch? Or if you imagined you were in a meadow, and in running through it, dashed off a cliff? Some things are less simple than they seem.
As for finding a rainbow spring... it's not raining, nor is there a rainbow to be seen. Perhaps another time."

The' colt's ears flattened against his head as the mare told him the risks of his views on how to tell what was real from what was imaginary. If that wasn't bad enough, they couldn't go swimming in a rainbow spring. He frowned for a bit, disappointed that nothing was going right. Then a thought came to him which caused his ears to perk up. "Hey! Why don't we go look for somewhere it is raining or where there is a rainbow?!"

The mare nodded. "We could do that. But perhaps you should check in with your family first? There might not be any rain nearby, and you would not want them to worry unnecessarily, would you?"

Ahanu peered up at the marred mare, tail flicking eagerly behind him. At her suggestion about telling his parents, he got a slightly confused look on his face. "Why?! That will just waste time! As long as I'm home before it gets too dark, I'm fine. So the sooner we get going, the sooner we can get back!"
