Madelief's Text Color is #600ba2
Esune's Text Color is #a21116
They speak and think in their respective colors.

Well wasn't this awkward?

Rubbing a sleeve clad arm and shifting from foot to foot to distract himself from the fact that Madelief's state of undress had caused quite a bit of unwanted attention, Esune silently urged the small floral girl to just pick a shirt from the bin an be done with it. It wasn't as if he hadn't purchased her clothing prior to this little outing, she had just refused to wear them, and being the doormat that he was the young doctor didn't have the heart force her into them. They had been expensive too - not that he minded spending money on Maddy, not at all! It was just a shame that she had refused to wear the clothing. Just like she refused to learn English.

So instead of forcing her intro clothing she rather not wear he had opted to taking her to the local Macy's in hopes that she would pick out a shirt for herself. They had arrived nearly an hour ago and still they had nothing in their shopping cart aside from a small amount of lint Esune had found in his own pants pocket.

The child herself was examining a small collection of shirts and discount toys found in the bargain bin, her large black eyes sweeping over each item as though trying to determine whether they were worthy to be placed in her shopping basket. She had sorted a small pile of toys to the side, and Esune was willing to bet she intended to use that look of hers to ensure that they would be purchased. The long haired male really couldn't resist those large, pleading eyes and sad, lonely expression and Maddy knew this all to well.

"Madelief. We're here to buy you some shirts, not more toys." He said finally after she had finished her appraisal of the various dolls and stuffies, completely ignoring the shirts. Reaching out he carefully turned her towards the articles of clothing and pointed, hoping the message would get across. She didn't understand much English after all, so Esune had to use visual aids to get her to understand the meaning of the things he said. "I'll buy you your toys if you pick out some shirts." He added, gesturing towards the shirts and then to the toys.

The girl stood there for a moment, as if she was trying to decide whether or not she wanted to understand what he was saying. Eventually she inched towards the shirts, but not before dumping her small collection of toys into the basket. Her eyes skimmed over the articles of clothing just like they had skimmed over the toys earlier, her small nose crinkling up in distaste at a majority of them before ultimately settling on a shirt with a purple floral pattern. Reaching out for it, she ran her fingers over the cloth, testing it in a way Esune couldn't really understand. A part of him hoped that if she did decide the shirt was unworthy, that the next person who touched it wouldn't fall ill to the symptoms normally associated with her touch.

Marie walked through the store carefully, her eyes surveying the different items and attempting to search for things at a reasonable price. She was a good bargain hunter and knew how to spot the better sales and deals than most women. And with three children, that was a good skill to have.

Emery, meanwhile, walked slowly beside her "Mother"'s shopping cart, arms carefully wound around a thick and almost ominous looking book. As they reached the bargain bin, the older female nudged her daughter forward a bit.

"Go pick out something you think will fit you." she suggested, having noted a while ago that preferences were almost non-existent to Emery.

The surprise that coursed through Esune's face as he watched as another little girl walked towards the bargain bin went completely unhidden. He should have known that they could not monopolize the bargain items forever, though that didn't mean he hadn't hoped that would be the case. He just hoped that the child wasn't going to attempt to touch Madelief. That would be a disaster in and of itself and he really rather not have to deal with an upset mother.

Madelief on the other hand, paid the approaching girl little to no mind at all. She had chosen to keep the shirt she had been examining earlier, tossing it over to sit amongst the pile of toys she had amassed. Looking up towards her adoptive father, she waited to see if the sole article of clothing would be enough to warrant the purchase of the actual things she desired, only to frown softly when the dark haired white mage shook his head no and gestured for her to search for more. Such a spoiled little thing she was, though Esune had no one to blame aside from himself.

Glancing over to the approaching mother, Esune gave the strange woman a soft friendly smile, before turning his attention back to the two toddlers. He had nothing to say to this woman, he didn't know her. To attempt conversation now would be awkward and a bit strange. At least, that's what Esune believed.

Emery showed Maddie about as much attention as the other girl had shown her. She picked up a few of the items in the bin and held them up to her chest to see if they would fit, and looked at some of the skirts and other items. It seemed she had absolutely no interest in the toys or in anything else.

Marie smiled politely back to Esune before searching through a nearby rack, having spotted a sale there. Might as well double their efforts.

Perhaps it was a good thing that the two girls were completely ignoring each other for the moment considering how badly Madelief seemed to get along with other children. Of course, Esune had only introduced her to a few of his younger patients in the clinic so perhaps it had just been the atmosphere that had caused her to shy away. She wasn't mean or violent, just distant, which was an issue in an of itself. Children needed to interact with others their own age to further their development and if Maddy refused to interact with anyone other then himself such things were made incredibly difficult.

Unfortunately, it seemed that an inevitable problem had occurred shortly after the floral girl returned to the bin. Apparently the other child must have chosen an item that was of interest to her and must have been the only one of its kind in the bin. The purple haired child, not really realizing that this item was off limits, snatched it from the orange haired toddlers small collection.

Not knowing how the other girl would react, Esune moved quickly to right the wrong. "Madelief, I'm afraid that shirt is already spoken for. Give it back to her before you cause any problems." He said softly as he moved to take the shirt from the toddlers hands, only to be met with a firm resistance. It seemed that Madelief wasn't willing to give it up without a fight.

"It's all right. THere are others." came Emery's soft voice, as she merely took another shirt from the bin and held it up to her front. She didn't seem to discriminate too much based on size, choosing some bigger sized items. So long as it would go over her without hurting, it would be fine.

Marie shook her head a bit, staying out of this. It wasn't her place to be deciding how another parent taught their child and if Emery didn't care - not that she would usually, unless it involved her book - it wasn't worth it to start a fight.

((I apologize for the long time it took me to respond. I have been trying to find my muse after a rather long hiatus. ))

~~~~~~~
Even though the purple skinned child didn't understand the words coming out of the probably older girl's mouth, she could tell from the body language that the other didn't seem to care that she had taken this particular shirt. Such a submissive gesture was something foreign to the Nightshade, and the expression on her face expressed this fairly clearly even as she placed the shirt into the basket that Esune held. With the article of clothing securely placed in the basket, she returned to the bin, though this time around her attention occasionally was directed to the equally quiet little girl.
The flower based toddler seemed to follow the other with her eyes, watching her with a silent and somewhat paranoid curiosity. The other didn't seem hostile or dangerous, though one could never be too sure so Madelief made sure to keep her distance as they walked around the bin almost parallel to one another. It would have been cute if it hadn't been so sad to watch.
Esune himself was relieved to see that the other child was no where near as stubborn as his own little girl. If the other had been the kind to throw a fit over the taken object then who knows what would have happened. Giving the mother of the dark skinned child a soft smile he returned his eyes to his own daughter as she skirted around the bin in a strange little dance.
The dance wasn't much of one, it seemed, for Emery was content to stick to one position at the bin's side and just lean forward to get whatever it was she was trying to reach. After a time, her soft monotone was used once more to address the girl watching her, "Did you need something?"
Emery talked like they did on TV. Her words were clear and neat, no emotion or strange inflections to her voice. Any errors in her speech came from not knowing the proper sequences or terms for what she was expressing. She didn't fake smiles or force any expressions at this point, merely being what she was taught was polite because that was necessary. Otherwise she would have completely ignored Esune and Maddie and been on her way very quickly.
Marie smiled back a bit and shook her head at the orange haired tot. Her daughter was a hard nut to crack. Thankfully it was a nut that she really didn't need to crack either.
The green skinned tot seemed a bit taken aback by the fact that she was suddenly being addressed by the girl she had been circling only moments before. Dark eyes that appeared to be completely lacking pupils landed squarely upon the other girl as she spoke in that almost flawless tone. A brief flash of annoyance crossed her face as she realized that she had been caught mirroring the other child.
As it was, Madelief had a very basic understanding of the language, and while she learned quickly, she was still no where near the level of most children her age. When she did speak, she spoke using one to five words sentences that were more a collection of observational statements. While the message generally tended to get across, there was no fluency to her words, and more often than not she needed the addition of visual aids to complete the message. Fortunately, she seemed to be able to understand a lot better than she spoke.
"No. Like choices you make. Follow." She stated simply, her voice also monotonous, though laced with a hint of irritation at having been interrupted. Holding up a few of the discarded pieces made by the other child, she further illustrated her explanation. After a moment, she shrugged and gestured for the other to return to what she was doing. "Just ignore. But don't touch. Poisonous." She gestured to herself and then made an unpleasant looking face.
Rubbing the back of his head as he watched the two girls speak to one another, Esune wondered what his own daughter was thinking at that moment. The other child seemed just as distant as his own daughter, but the other showed a calmness that would probably attract the purple haired girl to her. Turning to the mother of the other girl, Esune decided he too would try to pick up a conversation. "Your daughter is very mature for her age. I've never seen a young child speak so well in my life." He said honestly.
Emery nodded quietly at her new companion's explanation and shrugged, returning to her search. Maddie didn't want anything so she didn't require Emery's attention, particularly since the other girl didn't want it.
"She reads a lot and watches a good deal of TV." Marie said in an offhanded manner, "Emery doesn't like or dislike much."
"Except dinosaurs and stories." the orange haired girl added, still looking through the clothes and not paying attention to Maddie.
Her mother laughed, "Yes. Except Dinosaurs and stories - she likes those."
