Story

It's the Middle Ages, and the world has been shrouded in darkness. No one is sure why, but one morning the sun never came up. Oddly enough, the moon and the stars have stayed, and the fact that you can see the moon shows that the sun isn't gone, it's just no longer coming up.

Years have passed, generations. People up to age 67 have only known darkness. Only people older know of day, or rather what it's like to have sunlight lighting the world. Everyone else only knows of firelight and starlight.

With the darkness, the crime rate grew. And with this rise in crime, people stopped going out, afraid of being mugged or rapped. People now only go out when they must, and even then people often hire mercenaries. Sometimes even villages hire mercenaries to protect the dark, torchlit streets, and even then the alleyways are dangerous.

To make all this even worse, the two races that live on the planet, humans and magii, have plenty of tension between them. Millenia ago, when the sun still took to the sky, a bloody war was waged, and the humans won, nearly demolishing the magii population. No one knows why the war was waged anymore, but the magii are now prejudiced against by the humans, put into the most degrading jobs, not able to become equal with the humans again. The reason for this is not only that the magii lost the war, but also that the magii are very different from humans, able to use different forms of magic. From the elements, to being able to transform, to telepathy, to telekinesis, to being able to control poeple's mood. These powers make the humans feel weak, and so they came to hate the magii, and now segregation exists. Plus, on top of all of that, the humans have blamed the magii for the eternal darkness. But they don't know just how serious the darkness is.

Rules and Requirements

-All profiles are to be PMed to me. If I accept, they will find their way to the Profile's list under the gender of the character.

-Everyone is human or magii, nothing else.

-Only magii can use powers, with a limit of one power per character!

-Be nice to other RPers. We don't want to be disrespected, and neither do you, so just play nice.

-Follow Guild Rules as well as the ones for this Role Play.

-Don't go and use profanity as every other word. Profanity is allowed, hell, I use it too (see?), but the constant use of them is rather annoying.

-Out Of Character (OOC) talk is allowed, but please use double brackets "[[x]]" or double parenthesis "((x))."

-I, Blaze1616, have the right to ban anyone from this thread, and therefore will ignore you if you consistantly break rules after being warned. All warnings come via PM clearly titled "RP Warning".

-I also have the right to give your character to someone else in the event you leave for an extremely long time without any notice. I may also control them if they are absolutely needed in any part of the story in which you are absent. If that situation is to arise, I promise to keep my post as short as I possibly can. So please, Give us notice if you are leaving, or at least tell ME you'll be gone. Posts in the "Absence for Vacation, Family matters, being grounded, etc..." topic count as a notice, and I will check in there for your leave of absence when the need arises.

-Yet again, I have the right to be a total b*****d and add more rules in the future. Watch yourselves.

-It would be nice if you have had RP experience, but you can be a newbie too.

-You read books (not childrens books), and can follow a basic storyline and add mini plot twists of your own.

-You're not a total dumbass.

-Profiles are to look like this:

UserName:
Character Name:
Race: (Human or Magii)
Age: (Characters age [Magii age like humans])
Appearance: (Character's appearance. Can be picture or very well description. Not avatars)
Weapons: (Character's weapons. Two max)
Power: (Only magii, and only one per character)
Part in RP: (Traveler, Mercenary, Bar Owner, etc.)
RP Family members: (Any other characters in the role play you are related to. Discuss with other RPers if you would like your character to be related to someone else's character within PMs.)
Other: (Anything else you really want people to know)

*Note that I did not put the Biography part in the profiles as mandatory. This is because I know a lot of people who would rather explain their character's life during the RP. So you DO NOT need a bio in your profile, but are welcome to have one if you like.*

**Also note that I'm most definitly not new to this guild. I've been a member of The Realm of Dreams since nearly the beginning, if not then definitly the beginning. I've been in a few RPs that lasted a long time, as well as having one that finished after 150 pages (look in the recycle bin). I used to be a moderater for the guild too, but they demoted me because of a long absence (understandable). I know people though. Don't mess with me. I'll get your a** kicked out of here if I have to.**

Put cheese_whine in your profile if you read this post and agree to the terms in dark red.

The darkness was soothing. Looking around, he couldn't see anyone nearby. Because of this he assumed it was night. You could never tell what the time was anymore, and so people stopped caring. You got up when you weren't tired, and you went to be when you were. You ate when you were hungry, and you drank when thirsty. Life was easier now, or so some older folk would say. They all missed the light, though. Roran had no idea what the light was like, and so he wasn't disturbed by the eternal darkness. It was soothing sometimes, and made it easier to get away from everything.

Walking down the path, his armor clanked with each step. The village he was guarding was a smaller village, a few miles down the trade route from the big town, Velburg. As far as cities went, Velburg was very small, but compared to this little village, Velburg was an urban place. Roran liked the smaller towns. Less people to protect, and because of the low population, people were generally nice to magii. Roran knew they wouldn't treat him different for everyone thought he was a human who sympathized with the magii, but having to see his fellow people get beaten and whipped, Roran could hardly manage. Plus, the smaller towns don't have as many mercenaries, because there isn't too much to guard besides the people living there, and so it was easier to find better paying work in these small villages. Besides, Roran liked it here.

The crisp wind hit his face, whistling in his ears. It must be fall. The trees have yet to lose their leaves, but this wind is fairly cold. Winter is coming. Roran didn't mind the winter, for he never had to wear any extra clothing besides what he normally wore, for he could just use his control over fire to heat himself up from the inside, without anyone knowing. It was tough, though, not letting out the secret of his powers and his blood. He had lived his whole life with that secret. When he was a knight, no one knew, and now that he's a mercenary no one knows either. The difficulty wasn't in the hiding of his power, for that was easy. The problems came up when he found himself in a pickle, and he knew his power could save him and whomever he was protecting, and yet he knew he couldn't use them. Not even when they were the easiest solution, he had to do things the hard way.

Reaching his post, he cursed under his breath at how he was open to the wind. Even worse was how he was upwind to anything approaching the village. If wolves were to attack now, they'd know he was there long before he knew of them. Sighing at the predicament, he closed his eyes, using his power now to search for heat signatures. This way he'd know of whatever would approach him, whether they smell him or not. Using his sword's hilt as an armrest, he relaxed, for he should be here a while.

Luna, unlike Roran, didn't enjoy staying in one spot all night. She enjoyed moving around, wandering the outskirts of the village. Being a mercenary with Roran, she generally let him make the decisions, he was like her boss. They had been together for two season cycles, so two years now. Luna liked having a companion. It was comforting to know that in this dark world, there was always someone watching your back. Sometimes she wished her partner would be a magii, for that would only make things safer. Hell, she wished she was a magii.

Unlike other humans, Luna sympathized with the magii, and that's why she became friends with Roran in the first place. Skipping now, she hummed a little tune to herself. She quite enjoyed these nights guarding villages, or at least she figured they were nights, for you could never tell. It allowed her to be herself, a goofy girl, instead of the usual seriousness. Plus, no one generally bothered her, too afraid of the dark, the unknown.

Reaching a couple of guys, she heard their mumbling. Returning to a walk, she heard them call out to her, asking who she was. "It's just me, you fools," she spat, walking by, knowing they were eyeballing her as she walked past them. They were lazy bums, sitting on their asses. The fact was, generally that was all that was needed to keep the animals at bay. You just had to sit around and talk, sometimes light a fire if you were by the woods, for that alone usually scared any potential threats away. Even still, though, you had to be on your toes, for you never know what might happen.

Returning to her skip, she continued along. After a few moments, she could see Roran. Stopping the skipping, she sighed. Asleep again? Doesn't he take things seriously? Walking once more, she began to be as quiet as possible as she approached Roran.

She stopped, though, for she heard a bark. Her hand instinctivly went to the hilt of her sword, ready to draw it at an instant. She stood there, silent, barely breathing, listening for the soft padding of a running wolf, but nothing came. She didn't move, though, for she couldn't be sure.

"It's okay, Luna," Roran said, opening his eyes. "It's just a stray, probably won't harm anyone. You can relax."

Looking over at Roran now, she saw his eyes were open. "I htought you were asleep," she sighed with relief. "How do you know it's a stray?"

"He's walked by a couple times, as if debating whether to try and go into the village or not. He won't harm us," Roran lied, unable to reveal that he knew simply from his powers.

"How aren't you cold?" He asked, not knowing how Luna could go out on brisk nights in her skirt and be fine.

"I could ask you the same," she chuckled, moving to stand by him. After a long pause, she let out a soft sigh, "Winter is coming."

"I know."

Amaya walked into Velburg with a young woman behind her. She had been hired to escort the girl home from a larger city. A few people shrank away from Amaya as she walked past, now following the girl to her home. Amaya understood why of course. She was a well known mercenary, and an even better known magii. While it slightly bothered her that people were afraid of her and hated her for that reason alone, she tried not to show it. When they reached the girl's house, she collected her payment, then walked off. She could feel the darkness around her, and she felt comfort, like a child would in the arms of their mother. She could feel everything around her, including two people nearby. She wasn't sure if she should approach them or just continue. Still, they were in her way of leaving the village.

Just deciding to continue on, Amaya walked towards the two and just decided to let the cards fall where they may. She could hear them talking about something. Winter. With the cold chill in the air, it was obvious that winter was coming soon, but she wasn't too concerned. As long as it was dark, Amaya was safe.

Silence had come over them again. Luna was okay with the silence, especially between herand Roran. They weren't romantic with each other in any way, but they were like family, and the silences were not awkward at all. "What are we going to do this winter?"

"I'm not sure," he sighed, looking into the darkness as he felt a heat signature approach. "We should probably move the five miles to Velburg. The extra mass of people will probably offer a slightly warmer environment." The figure was getting closer, but it was of a human figure, or magii, they look too similar. Because it was alone, Roran wasn't too scared of bandits, though he'd have to stop the traveler and ask their intentions in the tiny village of Rollin.

"Ugh, you know I hate Velburg! I hate the larger towns. There's too many lit torches and you can't see the stars." Looking up, she gazed at them in wonder, smiling, and giggling a little. "They are so pretty, twinkling like that. And of course the moon is the best. Can't you see the face it's making, Roran?"

"Of course I can," he said softly. "Now shush, someone's coming." His hand fell to his hilt again, his feet shifting slightly apart as he squinted into the darkness. If Luna hadn't been there, he'd use his fire power to see in the dark, like a torch in his eyes, but then his eyes would glow slightly, and since Luna was there he couldn't risk it.

He didn't call out to the approaching stranger, though now the heat signature revealed that it was a woman, for he could now make out the buldge in the chest area that he couldn't from a distance. Glancing to Luna, who was a good foot shorter than he was, he saw her hand on her hilt too. She was ready to pounce, just like he was, but they weren't in battle positions.

Feeling that the two were uneasy, as well as seeing their body language, since she could see them just fine, Amaya stopped, putting her hands lightly in the air. "Friends, I mean no harm. I'm simply going for a moonlight walk." She called, her silver hair catching the moonlight, making her hair shimmer a little. "May I approach?" She asked.

Relaxing, he let go of his sword. "Any walk would be a moonlight walk," he replied as she came into their view, chuckling. "You don't look like a peasant, and yet you come from Velburg. That's a five mile walk, and it's most dangerous around these times, even for a warrior. You shouldn't be alone, people might get suspicious." He eyed her, sizing her up. She was obviously not a peasant, as he had stated, and because she came on the road that led to Velburg, he had to assume she was some sort of fighter, probably a mercenary. But traveling at this time of year was rare, for most of the animals would begin to mate around this time, to give birth in the spring, and that meant dangerous competitions at all times of the day, even if it is always dark. You could get caught up in a clash between deer, or bears, or wolves, or you could even be close to a female without knowing it and a male attacks you as a threat. Plus, with winter coming, many creatures were harvesting food for hibernation, and the worst outcome is you cross a bear's path at this time of year.

Luna didn't let up like Roran. He was too trusting at times, she felt. For all they knew, this woman could be a bandit, and even a lone bandit could be potentially dangerous. When Roran stopped talking, Luna picked up. "What's your business in Rollin? It's a small village, Velburg is a much more suited place for merchants, mercenaries, and everyone else for that matter."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:17 pm

"That does seem to be the case." Amaya laughed as she walked up. "I was escorting a customer home. That's all. I'm not some criminal for doing so." She answered to Roran and Luna. Then, looking to Roran, she smiled. "I may be dangerous for most warriors, but I'm not like most warriors." She told him.

He smirked at her remark, knowing what she meant. "Even for a magii, a bear attack can be fatal." Fully relaxing now, Roran felt she wasn't a threat, even if she did have some unknown power. Plus, she was a mercenary, and she was probably headed through to find another job. And with being a magii so openly, she probably had a bit of trouble finding work. There was no reason to cause her any more trouble.

Lune loosened up too. She saw no reason to bother this woman. Finding work, as a female magii, was probably quite difficult for her. I only wish I could help her. The segregation against magii is rediculous in some parts, I'm actually quite surprised she could find work in Velburg. "You're not a criminal, you are correct. And niether are we, for protecting this village." Pausing, she relazed further, shifting her weight onto her left foot. "If you're just passing through, be careful on the other side of the village. The two guards posted there are humans, and they are some of those alpha males to top it off. So being a woman, and a magii, you should be careful over there." Looking to Roran now, she saw him nod in agreement.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:52 pm

Amaya smiled to the two. "Thank you for your kindness and understanding." She said, bowing slightly. "I will keep those two in mind. However, may I ask what you two are doing out here?" Amaya asked them, interested in what the two were doing out there. The were most likely mercenaries themselves. She couldn't tell though if they were human or magii. While Amaya had an odd feeling about the man, she didn't show it, now just resting her hand on the hilt of her sword.

Luna nodded to the woman's thanks. It wasn't necessary, but it was always nice to get. "We're guarding the village. They pay us nightly, as well as the two blokes on the other side of the village. Plus, we see it as a way to protect passing magii."

"An added bonus," Roran chimmed in. "We hate how our fellow humans treat magii. The prejudism is rediculous, as if it's a magii's fault for the darkness, or if it's their fault they got their powers. You can't control who your parents are, magii or human. I mean, even with a half-magii half-human, the powers are still there and so the poor thing gets kicked out of the house, thrown onto the street. It's horrendous, how humans treat magii." Roran stopped himself, feeling Luna's hand on his shoulder. "Sorry," he apologized. "As she said, we're just mercenaries ourselves, protecting the village and helping passing magii."
