On my facebook status, I put that I think there should be a monthly vegan potluck in my town in hopes to meet other local vegans. Here are the responses I got:
"Save the cows!!! Moo- Moo I like ToFu..."
"if you want to be a vegan fine... but dont force it on the rest of the world... some of us ******** like meatlovers pizza"
"okay but whats the best way to cook a vegan"
"The secret's in the sauce!! You can steam em, fry em, boil em, or bake em. Vegans are a very sweet meat. "
I replied that I wasn't forcing anyone to be a vegan and that I think they are all buttholes for saying such things. lol. Maybe I'm overreacting but I feel like I have insensitive friends. I'm sure they all just view it as a big joke, but what the hell? Well, that's the last time I post anything about being a vegan on facebook. I'm just pissed right now! Had to vent.

It sounds like most of the people were joking. But most veg people have to hear jokes all the time, and it can get really tiring and annoying. Omni people don't always realize that though. They don't always realize that their jokes are old, that we've heard them all before, that it's not funny, that it's insensitive, etc. So if it bothers you, pull your friends aside and let them know. If they're true friends they will understand, apologize, and knock it off. 3nodding
The comment about forcing your beliefs, on the other hand, didn't really sound like a joke to me (unless that person is just especially unfunny). I'd probably have a more serious talk with that "friend" if I were you. If the friend doesn't apologize and continues to be aggressive about it, consider whether it's a good friendship that you want to keep. Or get juvenile and write snotty things to every status that they post. xp

Well, actually, I discontinued my friendship with that person. Not solely on his comment but it was the straw that broke the camel's back. He's turned more and more into an a*****e over the last year or so...that or I am just realizing it now. lol. It's up to 14 comments now!! I told some of my veggie friends that I was livid about this. I realize that it is totally silly for my to overreact over a stupid facebook thing, but it just makes me mad that people are indeed insensitive. My vegetarian friend had this to say:
"Wow, some of your facebook friends are real chocolate starfish. I mean geez, it's not like you demanded that everyone be vegan NOW! You aren't one of those hypocritical catholic republicans or something terrible like that who either tries to impose your beliefs on everyone or call them unamerican. But I guess we shouldn't worry, with diets like that, they'll die off soon enough."
Which resulted in a comment from someone else: "potluck great idea, help some of us poor carnivores learn that veggies done right are good eating!"
Really now? Ugh. Yes, it bothers me. Why wouldn't it? Yes, the jokes get old. The questioning gets old. It sucks that America is so dependent on meat and dairy and they view it as the only way to survive. Thank you, though, for your reply. I've calmed down a lot.
