So I was thinking earlier about Repo (of course) and how more and more people were watching it and liking it and obsessing over it like us. Which made me think about Repo as something more common than not. I'm not sure I would like it. I mean, I DO want Repo to get as many fans as possible and I DO want it to get enough profits for a prequel and a sequel, but I don't know if I ever want it to be common. I'm not one of those Fringe people, who always have to stay on the fringe, but it's almost like Repo will lose a little bit of that Repo-ness if it gets too mainstream, although it will never be mainstream I guess. I guess I don't want any fake fans, either. Like people who just like it because it's new to them. Then after 6 months they have completely forgotten about it. Anyways, I'm ranting. What's you opinion on the matter?

I feel the same way. It's getting more popular so now it's getting a bit old because more people are getting obsessed with it.

people probably said the exact same thing about The Rocky Horror Picture Show. its a cult film thing. even if it did become big and semi-mainstream...no repo-ness would be lost. after all, repo is the new rocky horror...awesome yet small and has shadowcasts. if it gets big it'll just mean more repo for us...like a prequel or sequel...i personally think that people who hate something because its mainstream are fake fans anyway so...yeah...my two cents.

Not really, I know i feel the same way. Like when i learn that other kids at m school like something i like (depending on why they like it) i kind of get mad. I do want more people to like the stuff i like so all my other friends that try to say blah blah sucks because not many people like it i would be able to prove them wrong but you also want to be the only one that likes it so it is special to you.

Why is there this feeling that if something goes mainstream, it isn't special anymore? I hear it all the time when I like something obscure. If you really love it, it doesn't matter if it's mainstream or not. If you're going to love it less when it's no longer obscure, do you really love it that much?
I hate this assumption that all new fans are fake fans. "I liked it first, I'm better than you." That's ridiculous. Everyone was a new fan at some point. It just means they can learn as much as we did about what we love, and teach us a thing or two about it.

I have to agree with -Lasciate Ogni Speranza-.
I'm a 'new' fan I guess you could say. Sure yeah I'll admit I'm obsessed with a movie, but I am not a fake fan. Like -Lasciate Ogni Speranza- said, not all new fans are fake ones, but sadly, some new fans are fake ones. I like Repo! The Genetic Opera for many reasons, one of them being I wouldn't mind having a future like that, it seems pretty B.A. x3 But I do have to agree with what you're saying: I don't want it to be like another Twilight. No one has heard of it, and I liked it, but once it had too many fans, I lost interest.

I'm not going to hate it if or because it goes "mainstream" (As riddlemethisbats said Repo can never lose it's true cult nature). I can't hate it! It's changed my life too much, it's affected me as a person too much. The whole fake fan thing wasn't against new fans-actually I like ranting to new fans about all my wise and acquired knowledge of it- It's just I've seen annoying fans who 'love' it and act like they're all obsessed with it and will love it forever and you mention something a few months later about it and they're like "What?......". Now that I type this it sounds kind of mean still. Anyways, I love new fans.
And I guess it is a bit of selfishness, too. Like log log5 said I like it to be something that's mine and special to me. And I did the same thing basically with Twilight, FluffehMoose. There were too many annoying fans and I realized she's really not that good of a writer compared to Anne Rice and that like. Though as I said before, I could never stop loving Repo. I might just have to put my obsession away for a little while when I'm older, but I will always loved it. Along with Terrance.

Hot Topic sells Repo! t-shirts. And it has a gigantic internet presence. You can find the dvd at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, any of the big chains. Repo!'s mainstream already. It's just finally getting around to general popularity.
And what's wrong with people liking it for only about six months? If nothing else, Repo!'s gotten money from them. They might bring the movie up to friends. I'm not "obsessed" with it really either, but I've introduced the movie to people who have become big time fans of it. And everything riddlemethisbats and -Lasciate Ogni Speranza- have said.

Thanks to Tim Burton, the Twilight s**t was getting pushed out of my local Hot Topic by Alice in Wonderland. And for some reason, now it's also getting t-shirts for old 90's Nickelodeon shows... surprised But I've only seen Repo! shirts at the bigger Hot Topics. (And I think all they have now is the Largo boys shirt...but they used to have a Mag and a Zydrate shirt. I totally would've bought the Zydrate one.)

I pretty much agree with this (minus calling Repo! the new RHPS). Here's the thing about so called "fake" fans. Let's say a "fake" fan likes the movie for a while, maybe buys it or the soundtrack or whatever because they have disposable income. Or they don't, but they tell someone else about it who really does like it and buys something. Every cent Repo! makes is good for us, because it's every penny is one cent closer to a prequel/sequel/director's cut or other shiny stuff.
This was also really well said:-Lasciate Ogni Speranza- Why is there this feeling that if something goes mainstream, it isn't special anymore? I hear it all the time when I like something obscure. If you really love it, it doesn't matter if it's mainstream or not. If you're going to love it less when it's no longer obscure, do you really love it that much?

It just means they can learn as much as we did about what we love, and teach us a thing or two about it. What's wrong with just finding out about Repo? All it means is that we were the ones lucky enough to hear about it first. I admit I do get an occasional twinge of feeling like the earlier fans worked their asses off to get the movie where it is now, which possibly some fans take for granted, but that's doesn't entitle anyone to anything. They/We did it for the love of Repo.
