____________________________________________________________________________________________________In ancient times, an astronomical event occurred that has been recorded all over the face of The Surface World known as "The Shedding of the Tears". For several nights a bright heavenly body appeared, a comet, that grew in size with each passing evening. Soon, it could be seen during the daytime as well. The civilization's on the surface of Gaia quickly turned from awe to panic. It was clear that the comet was on a path heading straight for them.
Legend foretells that Selûne threw herself into the comet's path to prevent it from harming the children of Gaia. When the comet hit the surface of the Moon, it broke apart causing massive destruction within it's path, huge pieces of the moon fell away, yet were still caught in pull of the moon's path . These large satellites of debris that still trail the Moon, and can easily be seen with the naked eye, are known as "Selûne's Tears".
After the comet struck, a large plume of ice and rock was cast into the night sky. A sparkling shower of falling moon cascaded across the atmosphere. Much of the tiny pieces skipped across the sky, offering a beautiful show of falling stars disintegrating in the blink of an eye. One piece however was large enough to make it through. Where it landed in a small valley has since been known as
Starryfell.
The site where the the moon rock fell has since been venerated by followers of both Eilistraee and Selûne as a pilgrimage site. A cave in the nearby rolling hills was enshrined with the largest of the pieces of the moon that fell. Pilgrims commune directly with their goddess, asking for guidance, healing and receive answers to their prayers.
