Avenged announced today that Mike Portnoy (The Rev's favorite drummer) will be drumming for the upcoming avenged sevenfold album.
On February 17, 2010, Avenged Sevenfold stated that they had entered the studio, along with Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, to drum for the record, in place of the Rev. "I want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began. Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it's our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans. We asked Jimmy's all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted. Its comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev's abilities. Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create. He was a legend before any of the success or any of that bullshit and we are ******** excited to lay this down for our fans, and especially for Jimmy."
So he will not be the permanent drummer, just for the recording of the new album. Any thoughts on how it might go, or on the bands choice?

Someone is always ahead of me because I don't have a comp 24/7 now. 3 But thank you for posting this.
I've heard him drum and I think it's a good choice. I mean, he noticed Jimmy's talent and he liked Jimmy (from what I read from facebook) so I believe it's a good choice. We'll just have to wait and see if this will be a good thing or not.
I'm gonna make this an announcement.

If anything this'll be better for the band than having The Rev sitting in the drummer's stool.
Mike Portnoy is a THOUSAND times the drummer The Rev was.

The Other Half of the Sky If anything this'll be better for the band than having The Rev sitting in the drummer's stool. Mike Portnoy is a THOUSAND times the drummer The Rev was. while this may be true, no one's drumming, not even the legendary Mike Portnoy will be able to replace The Rev.

I'm sure Mike will be just a good of Drummer as "The Rev" but, no-one replaces Jimmy, he was the best.. and no-one will forget him. A7x will always be THE BEST, I'm sure the new Album will be amazing.

He is alright, not the best like the Rev but pretty darn close. I still wonder how well he will do about the whole band think. Who will replace the Rev in the band? R.I.P the Rev

Now that the album has been out for a while, and I'm guessing most have listened to it, I feel like some things have to be said, or at least brought up as discussion topics. When I first listened to the album, I couldn't stop crying, especially during Fiction, which is my favorite song. But after that, I started listening to the drum lines and have to admit, I'm pretty happy. Mike did a wonderful job taking what the Rev had already helped write, and making the sounds come alive. My only issue is that you can tell it's not the Rev's drumming, based on the sounds. He had so many personal techniques that he used when playing, and because it was not him, they weren't really used. But I really think Mike deserves props for stepping in like that and doing a wonderful job, while also sticking to the same sounds that we like to hear from Avenged Sevenfold. Does anyone agree with me?

You can easy hear in "Nightmare" while the Drum-fills in the verse of "Now you Nightmare comes to life" that Portnoy uses his own Drum-fills, and this one can be called: The Portnoy's Fills, cus' you can hear it in many songs of Dream Theater ( I love DT, lol ) So, have you heard the song: " 4:00 AM "? Soooooooo dam' perfect, you can see now that's all alike The Rev's Drum. It's looking like they've ressurrected the "City Of Evil" rofl May the Ex-Confide do "such great" work.
I've noted that was a great choise, because this ex-confide drummer is veery awesome, his way of headbanging while doin'g hard drums beats, and he's voice sounds very good too. Try watching his perfomance at: Such Great Heights - Confide.
Farewell ;D
