Matal sat in a huge tree grinning widely. He had climbed as far up as he could and he was now going to attempt to jump as far down as he could. He hoped this little game would give he the same rush he got from his visions, but he also hoped he would land on his feet. With that Matlal jumped aiming for a branch well out of his way. His heart raced as he neared the branch, fore he was falling fast. It was not a feeling he is use to.
He lands on the branch with a small thud and grins widely, his heart still thundering in his chest. He turned looking for a new branch and jumped.
"Whaa hooo," he shouted/
It had been a long morning of training and Konje was feeling a little more than tired. Sighing softly to himself, he moved under the shade of a nice, large tree. With so many branches, it provided plenty of shadows to take shelter under for a long nap. One shadow, it seemed, was even moving around. Blinking, the leopard looked up, noticing something up in the trees.
It was a cat, a little one. Looked like he was just a little baby.
"Hey you!" he called, "you shouldn't be messing around in those branches! They might break under your weight!" anyone who trained as much as he did would know something like that. This little kid was clearly not training for any kind of contest- he was probably just playing some kind of game or something. Not what Konje was really interested in.
"don't you have a mom to get back to?"
Matlal landed on the next branch feeling very excited. It seemed the this game was one that could give him the rush he saught.
When he heard a voice call to him he looked down. All the way on the ground was a big leopard, just like his dad. Break under his weight, he wondered looking at the thick branch beneath. He shook his head thinking he would be fine, and not taking into account the branches were not all the same thickness.
He frowned at the question posed to him, "My mother is very busy?" It was quite true, she was a goddess, though Matlal himself did not know it. "She is working and will be back later."
With that he jumped again giving an excited shout. This time when he landed the branch did indeed break, causing Matlal to panic, though he enjoyed the andrenaline rush cursing through his veins. He landed a few branched below with a thud.
"Ow," he moaned. Thankfully he was okay and he was quite grateful he was closer to the ground, for the next jump, just in case.
Konje could have had a heart attack at that moment. He didn't know the cub, but he knew it wasn't a good thing if any kind of animal came falling out of a tree, stranger or not. Sure, cats could land on their feet, but what if he had hit himself on the head on the way down? Could have caused himself a lot of damage. Sighing heavily, he could feel his heart thudding against his chest, which made him irritated. Who was this kid and why was he set to scare the crap out of him like that?
"Boy, you're going to get hurt! Kids shouldn't do things like that! you have to have the right kind of training for that kind of thing, like me! You're playing with fire! Now why don't you come down here? We could have a nice race or something. You know, so I don't have to drag your dead body back to your family."
Maybe he would even let the little guy win... maybe.
Matlal sighed frowning at the stranger who seemed bent on ruining his fun. He turned ready to ignore him, when he vision swam, causing him to grip the branch and stiffen his little body.
Matlal was elsewhere now and it was like floating before his felt the thundering of paws and the rush of wind. His heart was racing as he looked back and grinned fiercely. The others were falling behind and he was so close to victory. His heart thundered in his chest as he paws pounded against the ground.
Suddenly he was back, up in a tree. Wait, race did he here race. He turned back to the male and grinned. "Yeah I wanna race," he called excited for a new thrill.
Matlal jumped from the branch he resided on and landed a bit off from the male with a soft thud.
"That was fun," he laughed.
Konje got himself to his feet, smiling as he watched the smaller animal. It wasn't a challenge this time- it was clear he would win no matter what, so there was really no point in considering the race with him anything more than a bit of extra practice. Still, he wasn't sure if he wanted to let the other win or not. Contests, even simple ones that had a clear winner, were supposed to be taken seriously... was it a bad thing to let a kid win?
Nah... kids were different. He wouldn't let an adult win, for sure, but a cub could eel what it was like to be victorious.
Help them want to keep on winning.
"Alright," he hummed, "there's a watering not far from here. How about the first one to reach it wins?" He asked, indicating with his paw which direction the watering hole could be found in. It was visible in the distance. Not a long run, but races didn't have to be excessively long.
Matlal listened to the male and watched as he pointed out the waterhole. Of course he knew it. Matlal nodded vigorously.
"First one to the watering hole wins. Gotta it," he said grinning. "I have to warn you though, I'm pretty fast."
Matlal was trying to be cocky, it was just a cubs statement of what he thought to be fact. He was certain he could beat his siblings in a race.
He took his stance beside the male and looked at him waiting to know when to go.
Bending down, Konje smiled, getting himself ready for a race. The lease he could do was make it look like he intended to win no matter what, if only to see just how fast the little guy was. That way he would be able to see how much potential he had. It would be amusing.
"Alright," he hummed lowly, his muscles ready, "on your mark... get set.... go!" He roared, springing forward with every ounce of his strength. Make it look real good right at the start. Even though his start had been like a bullet, he didn't keep the pace, making sure he ran less-than one hundred percent.
Matlal could feel his blood pumping and his excitement build as the male made his mark and Matlal copied him.
As soon as he heard go he too, pushed off with all him strenght. He little paws pounded against the ground and his heart speed up. He hardly paid any attention to anything around him and focused on his rush. How he loved a rush.
He tried to go faster and faster, wanting to run at his best. He wanted to win. He had to.
Matlal looked around for a moment trying to see in the male was close to him.
Konje ran behind him, keeping his eyes on the little guy. Just because he was going to let him win didn't mean he wasn't going to make it close. He was very near to the other cat, just behind him as he sprinted along. The boy seemed to have a good body about him, and was very quick on those little legs.
with training, he could grow to be a real challenge for Konje. He would have to keep an eye out for him once he reached adulthood. They could have a serious race then. One he would, of course, win.
Because he always had to win.
This time, though, he wasn't considering it a real loss as he let the other get to the watering hole before him.
Matlal grinned when he saw the the male was behind him. He was very close, but still behind and Matlal could see the watering hole ahead.
The excitement was too much and he was going to win. Matlal sped up sprinting the rest of the way to the precious water. He almost could stop and ran right into the water before he stopped completely.
He heart was still racing and he was huffing, but he turned and grinned brightly. "Told ya I was fast," he huffed.
He could feel his heart began to slow and his sences return to him as the adrenaline wore of, "I'm Matlal. That was very fun. We should race again someday."
Konje sprang into the shallow water after him, splashing down on all four paws. Laughing, he put his face under the water, taking in the cool sensation of the liquid against his fur and skin before bringing his head back up. Seeing as he hadn't really been running his hardest in the race, he wasn't that out of breath now that it had come to a close.
He was happy to see that the cub wasn't busy bragging about his big win. Some cubs could be very snotty about that. One of the reasons he hadn't wanted to play nice at first.
"You are fast indeed!" he laughed, "you'll be a real contender when you're older! And of course we'll race again! Any time you want, you just have to come find me.

Matlal nodded enthusatically beaming up at the leopard. "I shall practice really hard. I really enjoy that feeling, where your heart races and its so thrilling.
Matlal dipped his head and took a few huge gulps of the water while he his paws rested in its coolness. "I will definitely come find you, racing is very fun. Bet you'll win next time."
Matlal stood and splashed at the water a bit, "What's your name huh?"
"Nothing beats it!" He agreed, smiling, "my name is Konje. And that's a bet you'd win! I'm not going to hold anything back, so you better come with your best game when you challenge me again! Otherwise it won't be very interesting at all!" He was sure the boy would get better and faster.
He was already pretty good. It was actually kind of impressive for someone so young to be so quick.
"I guess we should probably get you back, though. Wouldn't want to stray too far from where ever the rest of your family is, you know? Might get us both in a little bit of trouble."
"Cool name," Matlal grinned," I am definitely going to do my best. You'll see I'll try my very hardest to win. I tried my hardest today and I'll be better next time."
Matlal moved out of the water when Konje said they should be getting him back. "Yeah I don't want to get to far away from home. Though I don't think Papa wouldn't notice till my mother came come. She is busy a lot. She has to collect herbs, um for healers I think. Don't worry though you wouldn't get in trouble."
Matlal shook out his fur and moved forward looking to Konje, "Shall we go then?"
"So your mommy like to collect herbs? That's cool. Do you mother and father love each other? Like mates?" His parents hadn't been that way. All he had known growing up was a frightened mother and a father always hunting them down. He hadn't understood back then, but he got it now. His father had been trying to hurt his mother. Kill him and his siblings. If she had allowed herself to get caught, anyway.
He didn't know what it was like to have a real family.
Getting up, he followed him out of the water, his butt dripping with water along with his tail. "Let's. Shouldn't be too long a walk!" Luckily he hadn't made the race track very long, or they might have been walking for some time.
"Yeah, herbs make my mother very excited and happy. She knows like all of them, said Matlal before he gave Konje a confused look. "I'm not sure. They don't treat each other like the treat us. I think they are friends though. We do all stay together and they don't fight, but my mother is very busy so I'm not sure."
Matlal walked with Konje happy for once to have a calm moment even though he mostly sought exciting one.
"Do you live near here?"
"Well, that's still nice," Konje hummed. A family. that was something he'd never had. Something he would like to have at some point. Maybe not as the son this time around, but a father. A father who wouldn't go around chasing his children trying to eat them. Or kill them. He never really found out what the true motive was. His mother had just made sure to keep them away from the guy.
"Me? No, I don't," he hummed, "I live where ever I want. I guess I could live near here if I wanted to. I like to roam around, you know? See as much of it as possible before settling down."
"You think so," said Matlal thinking on his family. He knew they weren't a typical family with his mom being a lioness and all, but he was still like his family, so yes it was nice.
Matlal frowned lightly when he heard what Konje said, but shrugged it off not liking the feeling. "I hope I don't have a hard time finding you then."
Matlal looked to the tree ahead, the very same he'd been free falling in. He grinned at the though, even if a branch did break. He had every intention of playing the game again. Though not right now.
He looked in the direction of his den feeling his stomach rumbling, then looked back to Konje. "I'd better go now. I might miss my meal. My tummy wouldn't like that."
He turned for the direction of his den and headed off. Looking back he called, "Bye Konje, see you around. Can't wait to race again."
