He wasn’t exactly sure why he was here, but he definitely could not tell his mother. She’d never let him leave the house again if she knew he had allowed his teammates to take him to a place like this. The afterparty was hosted at the house of some generous fan whose parents had mysteriously vanished for the night. There would be fame for the person for the rest of the week, perhaps, before the popularity died. Tonight, though, tonight the party was raging, and the game had just been the excuse.
Benji came in his game uniform minus the padding, as did the rest of his teammates. He couldn’t count the number of times he was smacked on the back as he weaved his way into the crowd and into the kitchen. He had to admit- he was starving, and if nothing else tonight, he would be getting off with a good dinner. The host had ordered one of those giant submarine sandwiches, and since it was still a little early in the party, people were occupying themselves more with the kegs than they were the food. Benji wasn’t much for that sort of thing- he could feel the jingle of keys in his pocket, a prize he had claimed from the one who brought him here. Designated driver was the best and easiest excuse to keep him from having to tip back more than one Brewsky.
At the table, he was humming under his breath as he piled on a couple pieces of sandwiches and a handful of chips onto his plate. Honey-tinted eyes glanced around for any sign of soda, finding them behind some couple who were getting the party started extra early. Sighing somewhat, he just nudged them aside enough to claim a bottle of root beer. Now it was time to figure out how he was going to get the guys to leave before midnight.

Cassie knew exactly why she was at the party.
The tickets to the game had been cheap, it was practically the weekend, and she had no plans. Most importantly the bit about no plans. The game itself had been a blast, especially with blaring noisy airhorns. Cassie had been escorted out promptly for the illicit item, or maybe it had been the shouting and badmouthing and popcorn tossing? Her accompanying friend seemed a little peeved. The important part was that she hadn't been banned from the games yet!
How Cassie actually got to the house was a bit of a mystery, but it seemed where ever there was a gathering of more than two people Cassie showed up like white on rice. It just happened. (She probably walked past traffic.)
She had been occupying herself with consuming copious amounts of celebratory pretzels that no one seemed to want to touch and harassing people about the details of the game until the team actually arrived. Feeling a bit thirsty, Cassie elbowed her way to the kitchen-
And dropped her plate of snacks in surprise. Her face lit up in excitement, and she bolted towards Benji. "OH MY GOD," Cassie exclaimed over the din of people. "Oh my god! Were you one of the players? Oh my god! I saw you. I think." They all looked the same to her in their cute little matching uniforms.
"You are A Hero," she informed him. It didn't mean too much; Cassie considered everyone A Hero. Except for the ones she didn't.

He was tilting back his soda when suddenly a buzzing reached his ears, similar to a mosquito's song but, as he soon realized, it actually had words swimming around in there. Turning, he was rewarded with the vision of a pretty little girl with auburn hair, chattering away at him with gusto. Her enthusiasm coaxed his lips into a small, easy smile.
"Aw shucks, miss," He drawled amicably to the compliment, bowing his head a little humbly. He was much taller than she, so it did little more than put them closer to eye-level. But not by much. "Yeaaah, ah was one of the midfielders this game. Ah scored a few, but mostly my job was ta help defend the goal. Ahm Benji, by tha way. What's your name, dahrlin'?"
Something about her voice sounded familiar, but he couldn't really place it. The thought that her voice over all others reaching him on the field was a nigh impossible concept to him.

Cassie had been looking up at him with what felt like a near 90 degree angle, and felt grateful when he looked down a bit. She looked fairly excited, was rocking back on forth on the heels of her feet.
"Oh, oh, oh but still! Everyone is important on a team," she informed him, thinking back to her parents' words of wisdom. "Except you are just, a dragon defending the castle!" Cassie thought it over, and belatedly realized that dragons were the sort to kidnap and eat princesses. Not very conducive to blocking a goal.
"Sort of, anyway." Smiling brightly, Cassie reached over and fished out a drink from behind the couple. It was a nearly frozen water bottle. She had finished her own off sometime ago, during the game. Cassie had been one of the first to arrive, and possibly the first to be forced to leave. Clearly they didn't understand her brand of enthusiasm, she reasoned. "Oh, hi Benji!"
The idea that he could have had a name beyond Player XX had not really occurred to her. "I'm Cassie! I was cheering for your team-" Obviously; chipping colors matching to his uniform painted her face. "-the Meadowview team, that is."

A dragon? His lazy grin stayed present on his features as he considered it. Really, he was more of a knight sort of guy, but such obvious flattery couldn’t be ignored. It didn't even occur to him that she might have said it to any other boy. He swelled subtly, shifting a little as he decided that he could probably do with some company while he waited out the party.
“Well, ain’t you just the sweetest thang, Cassie?” He clicked the tab open on his can of Root Beer, a soft hiss resulting before he raised it to his lips and took a sip. Then, unabashedly, he told her, “You picked the winner. So, you go to Meadowview or jest ta-night?”

"Gosh," she said, vaguely remembering her manners for compliments. "Thank you!" Cassie imitated him, twisting the cap off of her water bottle. Her attempt to drink it failed; the water was still more of a block of ice. She banged it several times on a nearby counter.
"Didn't I?" It was as though supporting her school's team was an amazing, bold choice for her. Cassie preened slightly. "I go to Meadowview! I am a soph-o-more." Her mouth opened to ask him if he went, too, but she shut it fairly quickly.
"Hey, do you normally go to these parties? I never saw you before." The others members of the team usually showed up, but she'd never met Benji before. Then again, she never met a whole lot of people who hadn't shied away.
