True to her word, Uuni had gone to find a healer and see what she could do for her skin. For the most part, the peeling was overwith, but now, of course, she felt all red and raw. With the muscle buildup, it also made her feel a bit unattractive.

Kind of like Janga, actually. Maybe they would even get along now that they were obviously on the same beauty level.

Pausing to whipe her forehead of sweat, she scanned the area. Where was that nasty blue and His?

Out in the fields, Makereth stood up on his hind legs and twisted his head around until he'd spotted the forementioned individuals.

Feigning heading for water, Uuni slipped off in that direction, Makereth in tow. How many minutes could they get away with slacking before someone kicked them back to work?

"Hey Janga!" Uuni called when they were close enough, a grin plastered onto her face. "You need some help?"

Oh man. Please let her say no. Uuni didn't want to walk all the way over there and find out she still had to do something.

Janga, however, had never felt more at home. The physical work was intense, but it was nothing that she couldn't handle. All they wanted her to do, after all, was just lift this here, bring this over here, and help carry this. It wasn't like she had to know anything about farming and that suited her just fine. The farm hands seemed to like her well enough, though maybe she was mistaking like for tolerance. For whatever reason, they left her well enough alone and she returned the favour.

Her blue seemed pleased by that. The muzzled Jounoth was actually useful for the kind of physical labour that his rider was engaging in. Though he certainly didn't allow anyone else to load him up, Janga had managed to suit him up with a pair of "saddle bags" which let him carry the grain back. Their system was stunted a little by the fact that nobody could get near the blue while he was working, but Janga figured if they wanted the help they'd let the High Reaches transfers do their own thing.

The girl looked up when she was addressed, half-way through loading some recently bailed hay onto Jounoth. Upon spotting Uuni, Jounoth rumbled low in his chest, already shifting his weight to move between them.

Don't even think about it.

The blue dropped his head but his eyes had taken on a distinct orange colour.

"What? Help? Naw, 's fine. He won't let you help him anyways." Janga paused to spit, getting rid of the dirt in her mouth. "Whatchu doin' out here anyways? I thought you were a tailor or somethin'. Somethin' pretty."

Uuni moved to the side when she saw Jounoth's body shift its position. There were stupid things she didn't mind doing. Stupid things like messing with that blue was not one of them.

She drug her tongue over her teeth when she saw Janga spit and tried to ignore it. Not that she had anything against spitting, but Janga had an art about making it disgusting.

The comment, however, caused her to snort. Giving Jounoth a glance, she moved the rest of the way over so she was close enough to lean against Janga's shoulder and whisper. Secretly, she was waiting for Janga to get sick of her and to wake up dead one morning.

"Here's a secret: I never had a craft. But, if anyone asks, I just really like farming, right?" She gave the blue a wink, which Janga probably caught as well.

"And I'm really a . . . Harper." That sounded good. People fell for Harpers. "Actually, scratch that. Maybe something less romantic. We'll stick with tailor."

The girl blinked slowly when Uuni leaned in, attention torn between Jounoth's low growls and the other girl's whispering. People usually didn't get this close to Janga, unless of course she was threatening their person. But Uuni was special like that, and she would let her come into her personal bubble. But only because the girl was tolerable. It had nothing to do with the fact that she may or may not be sleeping with everyone in the whole Weyr.

Janga had heard things, okay?

"Uh… yeah. Sure. If you say so. Since when is Harperin' romantic? I thought it was just singin' and stuff." She made a vague gesture. Clearly 'stuff' implied a lot of things that Janga did not think very highly of. "Why didncha just pretend you had a craft? They woulda believed you."

Uuni leaned away, and looked over at Janga as though she had just bitten off the head of a live tunnelsnake. An event which seemed rather plausible the more Uuni thought about it. The shock was not because Jounoth sounded about ready to rip her head off.

Then, her lips parted into a broad smile and she breathed in a long, contented breath. "That is exactly all it is, Janga. But, you sing to a woman, or write them a poem and they go down like bugs caught in a glowbasket." She bit her lip and thought about this for a second before she added, "Actually, some men seem to fall for it, too. You should stay away from men like that, Janga. They are horrible in bed."

That bit of truth explained, she stepped away and leaned her back against Makereth instead. "I'm cursed," she explained to the fellow bluerider and wrinkled up her nose. "With this thing called 'natural honesty.'" Which was, of course, a boldfaced lie that Uuni would never admit to.

"So, how do you like suddenly being the prettiest Jr. Weyrling? Everyone else from High has been sharded over with all this work, but you're lookin' good out here in the . . . sun, and," she paused to look around her. "Grassish stuff."

Janga couldn't help but scowl, already well over her head in the kind of intellectual, romantic topic, not to mention Harpers weren't exactly her favourite. They were generally prissy – at least in her experience – and people thought they were excellent just because they could strum a wooden box with strings. Woopdey do. She could probably play one too if she'd have been given the chance, but as far as she understood it, Harpers did have to have a certain aesthetic appeal. It made no difference to her. She was a dragonrider now anyways. She certainly didn't need to be associating with Harpers.

"What do I care 'bout guys in bed? 'Specially ones that fall for the Harperin'. If they fall for Harperin' then they're as dimwitted as a herdbeast." Who wanted to hear love poems written about them? Honestly. These people had no sense about what was a good way to court someone. If you were going to get them a gift, get them something practical. A poem was not practical. All it led to was unwanted children, or so it seemed.

The girl snorted softly when Uuni said she was cursed with "natural honesty", but she didn't contradict her. At the comment about being the pretties Jr. Weyrling she laughed out loud, slapping Jounoth's side. "Prettiest Jr. Weyrling? I dunno who you've been lookin' at. 'sides, the only reason they're so roughed up is they ain't tough enough. That gold one's all riled up, last I heard. Apparently she ain't got enough hard work in her to impress the locals. Maybe she's just muckin' around, who knows. You seen her lately?"

"That's the spirit," was Uuni's full-smiled answer to Janga's views on Harperin'. At least she didn't have to worry about the girl asking her to sing. As far as Uuni was concerned, that made Janga quite alright in her book. You know, that one she wasn't actually writing.

Uuni laughed along with Janga, although whether it was out of nervousness or joy it was hard to tell. The answer to Janga's question was: not enough people. Most of Ghenza looked the same to her, but she had to admit, some of the hard working men had nice bodies. Too bad it really didn't make a lick of difference other places.

"Oh, pretty is just something to use, you know? Doesn't do shard for me here." She glanced around, looking for anyone she might have offended. Although Ghenza insults were fun, she didn't want to be insulting anyone when she didn't mean to.

At the mention of Amelia, this time her snort was honest. "You mean clueless and virgin and numbtongue the Gold?" she asked, leaning farther into Makereth and peering to the sky as she rested her head against his back.

"She ran into me 'accidentally' at dinner last night." Uuni shifted and looked back towards Janga, giving her a wink. "Did you and blueboy there go to whatever that thing was Sharath was holding?"

A pause to run both her hands through her hair and readjust it, before she finished what she was saying. "Makereth couldn't go. He was skipping out on purpose to try and find dye for the drinking water."

Having never had any good looks to use in the first place, Janga couldn't exactly empathize with Uuni's plight. Nevertheless, she could certainly understand the concept. Back at High Reaches, a pretty face could get you anywhere with anyone, best of all a dragonrider. Here it seemed all they wanted was hard work, good temperament, and marriage. The girl couldn't say she enjoyed the thought of the last bit, but then again, children weren't top on her list of priorities, and thus it hardly mattered if she got married. There would never be a man good enough for her anyways.

She raised an eyebrow at Uuni's description of Amelia, which added even more insults to the goldrider's name than Janga had given her to begin with. Huh. She hadn't known Uuni felt like that about her. Chock up another point for the Craftless girl. "Yeah, that's the one." Janga almost asked if Amelia had been putting moves on Uuni, but caught herself before she betrayed any sign of stupidity. Accidentally bumping into someone was the key point of sarcasm, even if she did make it sound like there was something sexual going on. Queens, however, just didn't swing that way.

At least, that was what they said.

"He went. She wanted something about… aw heck if I can remember. Jou, what did she want with you?" Janga shoved the blue dragon in the side, causing his chain to jingle as he turned to look at her.

Pride things.

Janga snapped her fingers. "That's it. She apparently has got her undergarments in a knot 'cause we're not treated like the locals. Too proud to admit she doesn't like being the bottom of the pecking order or something. A lot of fuss over nothing, if you ask me."

If Janga was taking it sexuality, Uuni had scored fourteen points for herself on the scoreboard she wasn't really keeping. It was all out of friendship, though, of course. The girl really needed to get out and get someone.

Uuni's eyes flicked to Janga's dragon, amazed that the thing had enough brain power to think. Of course, she supposed Janga and Jou simply came with the title 'ridiculous'. After she'd punched him in the nose, how could Uuni have expected anything less?

There was a playful laugh at the sound of 'undergarments in a knot' and she looked toward's Makereth's long nose. "We should have gone. I wouldn't mind straightening out a few undergarments." As for the bottom of the pecking order, Uuni was not surprised. The smile stayed. As tolerant as she was of Amelia - tolerance was the word in her mind in any case - Sharath was a whole another bag of worms. Like the rider, hate the dragon. Or something like that.

"I guess you kind of have to give her credit for being willing to look. . . like however she looked." The proper term was 'idiot', but Uuni strayed from using it, since she had no proof that the gold had looked bad at all. She just had a guess.

"I think that Ghenza-man is looking at me funny," she added as an afterthought and quickly stood up straight, messing around with her garments and looking for something to do.

"I'm going to go get one of those long, ugly looking sticks with the flat ends and start wacking at these weeds. Don't miss me while I'm gone!" She left Makereth there with his wing outstretched to provide Janga and Jou shade. Not that either of them particularly needed it, but it was the thought that counted, right?

Janga snorted softly, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. She should have known Uuni would focus in on the undergarments bit. There were some things to be expected. Had she not zoned in on that, something might have been very wrong with the world indeed. "You shoulda. From what I heard it was a real Gather," the girl replied, not bothering to hide the hint of sarcasm in her voice. Clearly someone thought highly of their resident goldrider.

At the mention of giving credit, she shrugged one shoulder. "I don't think she did much talkin'. Mostly the dragon. I'm not surprised they look down on her, what with a gold like that. Dragon ruling the relationship and she wants respect. Whadyou tell her anyways, Jou? Somethin' about being all talk and gettin' us in trouble. The way I see it, we're goin' back to High Reaches anyways, so there innit a reason to be kicking up dust. Maybe the gold's afraid she'll break a claw doing hard work or something. Who knows."

She paused again to spit, still trying to clear the grit from her mouth. Uuni got a half-hearted nod of acknowledgement when she said she was going to get a hoe – honestly, she didn't know what a hoe was? – before returning to her work. The shade Makereth provided was welcome, and she gave the dragon a tip of her head.

Her blue, however, was less than impressed. I do not want any pranks, UuniMakereth, Jounoth informed the blue tersely, eying the wing as though it was hiding some sort of horrible trick.
