The day was unusually warm, the scent of a spring yet to come hinting in the air. With the brooks and streams and river thawing, Jocoa had come out to play. He stood on a thick sheet of ice in the river, using it like a surfboard as his magic provided waves in the lethargic water. He howled with laughter, muscles tense as he tried to keep his balance with this newly discovered ride. The water was still cold, but he thought fresh water was the best to manipulate instead of having to create his own, and couldn't resist the lure the cracked ice provided. Actually, he had left the house in the morning to go to town, to see if there were any empty homesteads in the area... He was going crazy living with his family! A small detour wouldn't be so bad. Just a little play... But it was hours later now, the sun having passed its peak a short time ago. His patchwork jacket was half unbuttoned from the exertion of using his magic for such an extended time, and his hat lost and forgotten to the wind and water behind him.

Elbaima had offered to gather berries that day so that her aunt Evisule wouldn't have to take the trouble, but now she was beginning to regret it. When she was little and she would go berry-picking with her sister and aunt or her parents as well, it was a lot more fun. Right now it was just kinda lonely.
She paused by the river, dipping her basket into it to wash the berries it was half full of, then kneeling down to take some of the freezing cold water into her cupped hands so she could drink it. Her ears perked up as she heard laughter upriver, and she looked around, not seeing the source. Suddenly she noticed a taur coming down on the river itself... surfing?!

Jocoa was still yowling triumphantly, master of his watery domain, when he noticed the waves taking him ever closer to a taur at the shore. He grew half a mind to playfully wash the taur in his wake, but as their features became clearer, his idea dissolved along with his concentration. The taur was pink. The taur was female. The taur was a cervi. The taur was... Elbi! Seeing the young woman who made his heart flutter, he lost all concentration, toppling over with a yelp and falling face first into the icy water. Face red from impact, cold, and embarrassment, the smitten kitten broke the surface, shaking out his hair as the water carried him. He gave Elbaima a small, bashful wave before realizing the water was carrying him past her. "Hey, wait!" He yelped, using his magic to get to shore a few feet down river of Elbi. Instead of impressing her, like he'd had the chance to, he had probably embarrassed her just by watching him fall. As much as he wanted to bury his head under the ground, he immediately jumped to his paws, brushing his body off and shaking out his fur.

Elbaima laughed as she recognized the cattaur, but more excitedly than mockingly. She trotted over to him with her berry basket in her hands, standing just far enough away to not get hit by the water droplets flying from his fur.
"Jocoa! That was amazing!" she exclaimed, grinning. "How did you do that? You looked so cool, surfing on the water like that!"

Though the red from impact was fading, the pink held on his cheeks with pleasure from her praise. She had been impressed! She said he had looked cool! He peeled off his jacket to wring it out as he grinned bashfully. "Thanks, Elbi. I've just been practicing my magic. I can do a lot more now." He looked back at the water watching it calm after the ruckus he had caused in it. "Used a chunk of ice as a board, then my magic to make the waves." He shook out his damp jacket, using his magic to pull the rest of the water from the fabric, tossing the water ball back at the river. He glanced at Elbi, smiling affectionately. "Maybe one of these days... I could give you a ride like that, minus the crash. When I'm even better. Or when it's warmer."

"Oh, really? That would be wonderful! It looked liked fun!" Elbi smiled and watched him in awe as he used his magic. "Oh, are you hungry? They're for Auntie Evi, but I can always pick more." She held her basket out toward Jocoa. "So, what are you doing in this area? Having any adventures, other than river surfing?" She grinned. Seeing Jocoa always made her happy, and he was so cute when he blushed from her compliments...

Beaming happily, his mood completely returned to normal, Jocoa flicked his tail with a light purr. "It's a promise then." With his jacket back on, he looked eagerly at the offered berries. "As long as you know where to get more." He said, scooping up a small handful. Using so much magic for so long had worn him out, but he didn't want to eat berries meant for Evi. "Though, I'm supposed to be getting to town, and I've delayed here as it is. Would you like to come with me? Maybe, I could, you know, treat you to dinner."

"Ooooh, I'd love to!" Elbaima couldn't help but let out a small excited squeal. The boring day was turning into a wonderful evening! "Oh, but could we stop by the house really quick? It's on the way, and I'd like to drop off these berries to Auntie Evi. Then I won't have to carry them, and maybe she can cover for me when Papa comes home." She grinned. "I'm sure she'd approve of me missing one meal, under the circumstances. Plus she can fill in Mama later on."

Jocoa's chest puffed up happily, a low purr emitting from it. An evening with Elbi! When she asked about the quick stop he cocked his head. He liked her Aunt Evi. It would be nice to say hi for a minute. However, he felt bad when he hoped she was right and the "Papa" wouldn't be home. Things still seemed to be touch-and-go with the elder male... At least it was better than when he was younger. But, it was a risk Jocoa was willing to take. He would face nearly anything for Elbaima's smile. "Sure, we can drop it off." He held out his arm to escort the lovely cervi.

Elbi happily clung to his arm. "Great! I'll lead the way, then." She giggled. "But I haven't been to town in a while, so you'll have to be the leader there." It was nice being so close to Jo, he was nice and warm, and she could hear his adorable purr. Despite being an adult now, the cervi still felt like a teen with a crush whenever she cuddled up to the cattaur.

"As you wish." He said lightly, patting her arm with his free hand, proud as the clouds were high to have Elbi on his arm as they walked. He couldn't wait to get to town now and show her off. "So, has anything more happened between Evi and Arian?" Admittedly, he was curious how that was going.

Elbaima thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I'm not really sure. Evi doesn't really talk much about time they spend together... but she does seem even happier than she used to be, so I'd say that at the least, she's not letting anyone stop them from being together." She smiled, looking around at the path. "Almost there!"

Jocoa nodded with a smirk. He figured he knew who that 'anyone' might be. "That's good to hear." His nose lifted, catching the familiar scent. He hadn't been there in quite some time, but the few times he had been there, he had taken great note of the scent. It had to do with Elbi, of course he tried to memorize it. Licking his lips, his hand slid over and grabbed just a few more berries from the basket, popping them quickly and guiltily into his mouth. He was getting so hungry from the workout, but those were for Evi! "Maybe, in town, we'll get the dinner first." He said with a bashful chuckle.

Elbi laughed. What an adorable, silly cattaur Jo was. "Sounds good to me." As they entered the clearing, she called out, "Auntie Evi? I'm back!"
Evi trotted out of the house and grinned as soon as she saw the couple. "Jocoa, what a pleasant surprise!" she said as she took the berries from Elbi. "It's good to see you again! Are you staying for dinner? I've got a nice soup going-"
"Actually," Elbi interrupted, "we were gonna go into town for dinner."
Evi took one look at their faces and smiled knowingly. "Well alright then. But wait here, would you? I won't be a moment." Evi disappeared into their house and came back out holding four biscuits. "The town's not far off, but you two should take these as snacks, anyway," she said as she wrapped the biscuits in a piece of cloth. "I'll tell Eli you felt like exploring tonight, hmm?" she added with a wink at her niece. "And when he's sleeping I'll explain to Mikaila and Dora."
Elbi gave her a big hug. "Thank you thank you thank you, Auntie Evi!" she exclaimed, then gratefully took the wrapped biscuits.

Jocoa flicked his tail expectantly, still hoping that only one voice would answer. It seemed as though luck was on their side! "It's good to see you too Evi." He said happily. Having been the first of his knowledge to accept his courtship of Elbaima, probably even before he knew that was what he wanted, Evi was always a welcome sight. Case in point. A knowing smile was all she needed to express her feelings. And, of course, he instantly felt his mouth water when Evi returned with biscuits in hand. "Thanks a lot." He said, sticking his hand out. But that felt too formal, so both hands opened out. But then that might be too familiar... One hand slumped to his side, the other rubbing his neck bashfully. "I'll have to come by some time soon for a bite though. I see you even less than I get to see Elbi." He chuckled with a sad smile. Obviously, he felt that he didn't get to see Elbi nearly enough.
