Rain fell down upon the earth, creating muddy puddles on the ground. A young foal walked slowly around the forming puddles, careful not to fall into one and become Wys the Muddy Lockness Monster or something silly like that. His mother and brother would surely laugh at him, but no matter, he would talk their ears off with questions about why they are laughing, so it was a lose win situation. Wystan continued walking in the rain, soon he was soaked to the bone, but since it was still warm, even with the rain fall, he was not cold. Mother had sent him off again, telling him to explore and ask others questions. Then he was to come back to her and tell her what he had learned, be it stories, sights, or nothing. Isabliss would usually stare at him if he said that single word and wait until he said something other than ‘nothing’, “Wystan, you always learn, even when you do not believe you are. Pay attention to the world around you; listen to what it tells you.” He would nod his head and then rattle off the observations that he made just to make his mother happy.

Io looked up to the sky, it was raining. She watched as the raindrops fell, wondering where exactly they come from. Her head tilted from one side to the other, before finally straightening back up to look around. Her mother had become more open to the idea of young Io exploring the lands around their territory, as long as she promised not to go too far. Her mother had given her strict instructions that if she were to get into trouble she was to take flight immediately to get away from predators and come -straight- home. Making her way along the treeline of the forests, Io's eyes fell upon movement in the distance. A faint blur of grey, red, and gold. Her ears flicked, she wanted to find out what it was. Carefully she started moving in closer.

He was being watched; it was that prickly feeling one got on the back of the neck. Wystan stopped walking to look behind him and peer through the rain, in search of the one causing the feeling. In the far off distance a blurry blue figure approached, judging from the size of the blur, he categorized it as non-threatening and waited for it to come closer.
‘What could it be? A foal like myself? That is possible, but what would a foal be doing out here in the rain?’ the fact that he was a foal in the rain did not register with him. ‘But what if it is not a foal? Then what could it be?’ Strange images of creatures filled his mind as he placed them into the three mental piles of Probable, Perhaps, and Most likely not (most ended up in this pile).

As she moved closer, she could tell that the colors formed a foal, just like herself. Once she determined that he was not threat, she changed her pace from careful to carefree. She bounded over to the stranger with a playful smile.
"Hello, who're you?" her head tilted slightly as she looked over him. He had fantastic markings. "Where'd you come from?" Io wasn't use to having other foals in the area. This was the first time that she had run into one, she was quite excited about the possibility of a playmate.

His eyes widened, it was not a mud monster, but a foal who bounded up to him. The most interesting thing was that she spoke to him first, he’s usually the one that has to start up the conversation, he smiled, it was quite a refreshing change.
“Hi! I’m Wystan. Who are you?” She was looking him over, so Wystan decided to do the same. She was an Angeni like him, but her colors where more on the cool side of the color spectrum, unlike his. “I came from a lot of places” that was the best way to summarize all the places he has lived for a short while, “Where do you come from?” The filly seemed excited for some reason and it made the young colt smile, for her excitement was infectious, even if he did not know the reason why.

"Hello, Wystan!" her small wings fluttered, her feathers ruffling softly. "I'm Io, and I'm from that way..." she nodded back down the path from which she had come. "My herd is that way. We're staying at Grandpa's for a bit, then we're going back to my parents lake when me and Chan and Mal are big enough!" she offered to him as if he should know who her siblings were.
"What are you doing today," her head tilted, she stopped at posed in playful statuesque pose, "I'm exploring!"

“Io? That’s a pretty name. What does it mean?” He turned to look in the direction that she nodded, squinting through the rain trying to see something besides trees. It did not work. “Your parents live near a lake? I would have to say you are one lucky filly. How much longer do you have to wait until you get to go?”
“I am wander—I’m observing and practicing my detective skills.” He smiled at her pose; she somehow was able to avoid the muddy puddle forming on the ground beneath their hooves, “have you found anything interesting?”

"I don't know, really. Daddy said something about the Moon." she shrugged it off with a smile. "Yes! Yes they do. They say we have to be stronger and faster before we can leave the herd lands..." she paused for a moment, but only a moment, "You see Chan and I can fly, Mal can't. They say we're too small right now to be away from the herd." Io's family had explained to them that they were safer with the large herd for now, at least until they had gotten use to their legs and wings.
"Detective skills?" Her ears perked, "What's that?"
She hardly have him time to answer before she continued on, "I have! You!" she was quite sincere. He had been the most interesting thing she had found so far.

“Very interesting, the name suits you,” he gave her a smile, “Do you remember it or are all your current memories from your Grandfather’s place? Your sister, I am guessing, cannot fly? Why is that?” Her family was different than his, for his only consisted of his mother, brother, and him; the herd was small, since many would grow tired of Isabliss’ constant moving from place to place.
“Yes, I want to be a detective when I grow up, which means that I would solve crimes and be really observant in different situations to learn all that I can. I want to be like the great Stallion Holmes. He is my hero.”
Wystan gave a small laugh and gave her a brilliant smile through the rain, “Somehow I knew you were going to say that.”

She bounced forward, landing in the puddle accidently splashing her new friend. "Then you are a great detective!" she, saw where the mud hit his coat.
"Oh, oh, I'm so sorry. SO sorry!" she moved over to rub against him quickly to try to remove the mud, only to make it smear worse, she cringed. She took a few steps back and crinkled her nose, "Well, at least its raining..." was the only thing she could think of, the rain would wash it off.
"Oh no, Chan can fly...my brother Mal can't. Mal doesn't have wings, he's like Momma. Daddy has wings, wings like us." she nosed his wings and fluttered hers again. "Mommy can't fly..and she doesn't have a horn...but we all have horns...except her..." she paused to think. I wonder how that happened she thought to herself.....Oh well.
"Does all of your family have wings? My herd is made of all types!!" she exclaimed to him.

Wystan looked down where the mud hit him, so he did turn into Wys the Muddy Lockness Monster (not to the extent he original imagined though), he smiled, “Why thank you, I am glad someone notices my great skill. Oh, and don’t worry about the mud, it was bound to happen. You’re right; the rain will wash it away in no time. See? Most of its already gone.” The mud on his chest was quickly washed away by the current down pour of rain.
“Does Chan have four wings like you and I? Oh. What does he think about that? Not being able to fly?” Wystan could not imagine how is short life up to now would have been like wingless, he never thought about it before, since there was never a chance that it could have happened.
“Hmm? Yes, all my family does… well I do not know for sure if my father does, but I believe he has four wings like mine, since mother gets a sad look in her face when she looks at me…” he stopped, realizing he was telling her more than she wanted to know. “Yes, my mother, brother and I all have four wings.”

"She does! She, I, and Daddy all have four wings...well....," she counted, "Eight if you count all the little ones..." she tilted her head, she assumed those were wings of sorts. "I don't guess Mal minds, He doesn't like it when Chan and I tease him by fluttering around him, but he just laughs most of the time." she and her sister tormented poor Mal. He loved to charge around at them and they would just flutter out of his way.
Her ears flicked back and forth as he spoke, it sounded like he didn't know his father either..he spoke of him how she and her siblings had talked about theirs before they met him. "You don't know him?" her head tilted to the other side. "My daddy wasn't always around, but he came back!" she tried to offer some hope to the foal.
She was glad to see that her muddy mistake had already started to wash away and that the colt wasn't mad at her. She offered a friendly smile and inquired, "Would you like to explore with me today?"

“Oh yes,” he fluttered the tiny red and gold wings behind his ears and legs, “I forgot about those.” He considered the information she gave him, “He’s a good sport about it then, that’s good. You would not want it to cause a rift in the relationships of siblings.”
His eyes became sad, “I doubt he will come back, mother is the one who left him when we were still in our baskets… So I do not even know what he looks like.” Isabliss did not like to talk about Winston, but Wystan was able to connect some dots by the way she acted.
Wystan could not help but return her friendly smile; she appeared to be filled with such great energy, “Sure! I would love to explore with you. Where first Miss?” He bowed his head to let her know he would follow her to where ever she wanted to go.

She shook her coat vigorously to try to get some of the weight of the rain off of her. She listened to Wystan as he spoke, it was sad. "Well...You never know, Wystan..." she offered to him.
"Hmm," she looked around, "I was just exploring really, no real destination. Do you have any ideas?" she tilted her head at him. "What are you investigating?" she inquired. Perhaps that would give them an idea of something to look for.
"No, no I wouldn't. I love my brother very much." She laughed, "Even if I do like to tease him," Io loved her siblings very much, They were her best friends.

The water droplets from her coat as she shook them off, landed on him, “Hey!” he laughed and then shook off some of the water as well, but only having it replaced by the current downfall of rain, “You are right, but in a way I kind of don’t want to meet my father… if he was so great, then why did mother leave him? That’s what I want to know.”
He peered through the rain, hoping something interesting would jump out at him, in the far off distance there was a wall of trees with bark as white as snow (not that he’s ever seen the white powdery stuff), “Those tree’s look interesting. What’s the story behind them?”
Io’s family was tight and they did not let anything separate them from that bond, a bond that seemed stronger than his tiny family, he gave her a small smile, “Instead of a rift, it could cause a deeper bond, which is happening it seems.”
