Layla reached up, taking her papa's hand without looking at him as they walked into the building. She wasn't sure she wanted to be here again, the last time she had come she had been a bit traumatized by her other dad. But they insisted that she came.
That was why the usually straight forward girl was hesitating and discreetly peeking at the door behind them, wondering if she could get away with running before they made her talk to someone again.
"Hey," Marcus said. "What's gotten into you?"
"Nothing," she muttered, looking away.

Apoxi smiled brightly when they arrived. "Hey guys." she said cheerily, "There's someone special waiting for you today. Hazij couldn't make it, not that Imai's exactly in the best of moods with him anyway." she muttered before laughing.
"Anyway, come on. You get to meet your Grandmama today." the woman told Layla, showing them into a different room than before. This one was like a grand cave, just like before, but it was only one room instead of two, and the cave was much more neatly furnished and had little chairs rather than seeming dank. And there was a large grey dragoness with blue eyes and three sets of horns (rather than Hazij's two) relaxing on the floor.

"Grandmama?" Layla repeated, cheering up now that she knew she wasn't going to meet her other papa today. That sent a bit of guilt down her spine, which she blatantly ignored.
"Imai?" Marcus repeated. "Huh... I've always wanted to meet her," he said thoughtfully. "She's not a lady you can track down easily." He stopped as he caught sight of the dragon. "Impressive."

"Good day to both of you." the dragon greeted with a nod. With a small smile - however she did that with those teeth- the great female leaned down so she could get a look at Layla out of one big blue eye. "Well, aren't you a pretty little one. What might your name be, child?"

"My name is Layla!" Layla told her, preening at the compliments. "I'm part dragon and part siren and this is my Dad, Marcus St. George, and he does hunt dragons but he's never hurt a luck dragon and he gave me the hair to prove it--"
Marcus groaned. "Layla," he said as she started to go on. "Layla!"
"And I can read--"
"Layla!" he said a bit louder, catching her attention. "Sorry about this," he said to Imai. "We're still working on her manners. Or something."

Imai shook her head a bit and waved one of her clawed front feet. "I understand completely." she stated with a knowing tone - for she had raised enough broodlings to know about how they could run off at the mouth.
"From what I understand, my son still has a bit of a big mouth on him as well." the elder dragon stated with a somewhat irked look in regards to her son. "I apologize if he made you feel awkward, young one."

"Oh," Layla said, suddenly clamming up and looking away. There was a moment of indecision that passed as she glanced up at her father, then headed for the nearest chair to sit down. She pulled her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them as she looked up at her grandmama.
"Well... he was right, partially," she finally admitted. "Dad does hunt dragons. Or he did. But I think there's a difference when it's um, our type of dragons and when it's luck dragons. Cuz our type are big and strong and will fight back, right?"

"Of course, but he had no business running off about other things, particularly when most of his information on any dealings with the eastern variety came from gossip." Imai said coolly and shook her head, reaching for her teakettle with two claws. "Would either of you like a drink?"
"Yes, we do fight back. Eastern dragons tend to be more peaceful but they will defend themselves if they have to. The one here happens to be a specimen of one of the more peaceful variety. Though she is rather young." Imai commented with a shrug.
"Did you have anything you wished to know that Ahazijhar didn't tell you?"

"I'd like some," Layla said, motioning to the tea, even though she had no idea what it was. It seemed smart to accept something offered. But at the next question she was silent, frowning slightly as she thought it over.
"Ummm..." she started out. "I don't got any special powers, other than the leg to tail thing. I can't breathe fire or anything, can't fly, yet, even though I got wings, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do, you know, that I got from this side of the family. And Dad isn't saying."
"Considering that she's been put together, I figured it was a fifty fifty chance of her getting specific dragon powers," Marcus said. "I didn't want to get her hopes up."

Imai smiled and poured out a bit into a cup for Layla. It was rather amusing watching a creature so big dealing with such small items. Marcus, would you like some?" she inquired, before turning back to the child. "Dear, would you like some milk and sugar?"
"Your father's right - there is a split chance of you getting powers from either side of the family. My side features things like tougher skin, strong flight skill, invulnerability to certain things. I'm a steam dragon, however, but Hazij inherited mostly his father's firepowers, so you may or may not get that."

"Forgive me, but force of habit has me not accepting food or drink from a dragon," Marcus said politely, if a bit dryly. It was a bit of a shock to see a dragon pouring tea, but he wasn't about to say anything about it.
"Steam?" Layla asked. "So what does that mean you can do? Can you breathe steam? Or turn into it? Or--" She couldn't really think of what a steam dragon's capabilities entitled of.

"I can breath steam, I can control steam from other things, and generally can't get burnt or scaled by it." she explained patiently, stretching out and picking up her own rather large mug of tea to drink from. "Just as Hazij breathes fire."

Layla nodded, not sure how that would come in handy, but she was positive that if anyone could figure it out, it was her grandmama. "That's so cool," she said, wondering if she would get either the fire or the steam thing.
"Don't get your heart set on it," Marcus told her. "Remember, you're only half dragon, kid. Even if you got one of those powers, I doubt it'd be more than half strength."

THe broodmother nodded again, "And steam is recessive to fire. You are more likely to get that, if anything." she commented.

Layla nodded, not quite sure what "recessive" meant, but not bothered by that fact. "Do you like to read, Grandmama?" she asked suddenly. "I can only read a few of the books that my Dad has around the houseboat, but he promised to take me to the library soon to get more."
