I know they aren't big with everybody here, but In Flames are my favorite band. I just heard tonight (though I guess it was announced a few days ago) that Jesper has left the band. They haven't been their old selves in a while, but this is still pretty crappy news. cry

I understand your love for IF (I too once adored them), but I've just drifted so far away from them, especially after the craptastic A Sense of Purpose, that this just isn't all that tragic. Jesper's a huge name and a hell of a songwriter, I'm sure he won't have trouble finding or starting something new and better.

I stopped caring about In Flames after Clayman.

But I'd like to see what Jesper does next.

I heard about this and 'meh'd'. I've never really cared about gothenburg/melodeath. :f

Yeah, my one big hope comes from the fact that Jesper was mostly responsible for their old sound, while Anders and Bjorn were more in control on recent albums. Maybe away from them (I hear rumors of a new Dimension Zero album) he might revive more of the old Gothenburg sound.

In any case, nearly as bad as his actual departure is that I seem to be the only one who cares gonk

Volvy, I'd be worried if Joey left Manowar. But InFlames... well... never was among my favorite bands so....

I'm sure if you visited their fan forums, there'd be countless threads claiming the sky is falling.

That's probably true, but I have a hard time with new In Flames fans. Any time I hear somebody describe Soundtrack to Your Escape as "their old stuff" it gives me a brain aneurysm. confused

Well there you go, case in point. Just another reason to pretty much leave the In Flames name to rot, and focus on the individual musicians.

Regarding melodic death, do you enjoy Unanimated? They've pretty much become my favorite of the genre.

I've heard only a little of them, didn't make a big impression one way or the other. I haven't really been playing a lot of melo-death recently, though.

As for the IF thing... it's more the principal of the thing. I know they'll never release another album like Whoracle or The Jester Race or anything, but they had started playing some old material live when I last saw them, so it was nice to know he was there at least for that.
