I was told that this was a viable motto for life. So for my experiments in its application have resulted in nothing but failure.

John Wesley was told to preach faith until he gained it.
the advice seemed to work for him,
at least he survived armed pursuit over a case of breech of promise

It probably works for some people. You know, the type that has so much self confidence and probably charisma that they can just get away with it. Like those Whitehouse crashers a month ago?
Or in reverse, maybe it's good advice for self effacing people who actually have the skills. So they might THINK they're faking it, just to give themselves the self confidence in the first place, but in reality they're the best person to get the job done...
