Aaricia ran ahead of her father excitedly. Usually Daddy spent the day with his two-legger but today he was going to spend the day with her and they were going to met Mommy and Austin. The whole day just the four of them she couldn't be happier.
"Aaricia don't run to far ahead," Arctic called out to his daughter. He laughed softly to himself glad she was happy, he didn't want her to think he didn't care about her but with all the time he spent away from her he had began to worry. "Hopefully Chayse will have an idea about what to do," he muttered to himself.

Chayse: "Will you come along Austin. Leave the squirrel alone." she chuckled to her son. "We're already late. Your papa and sister will be wondering where we are." She walked along ahead of Austin, who had found a squirrel playing nearby and had wanted to investigate. He was constantly running off or getting into mischief.
Austin: "But mom, I want to play with the squirrel too. Can I bring him along?" Austin whined to his mom. He liked finding new little creatures to play with. He also couldn't wait to see his papa and play with his sister. It had been a while since they had been together. "Mom, why don't we live with papa and Aari?"
Chayse: "Well, honey, I'm not sure the squirrel will want to come with us, and I've told you before why we don't live with them. I couldn't bare to leave my two-legger, and papa couldn't bare to leave his, so we decided we'd live apart, but see each other as much as possible, so that you and your sister could see each other as much as possible." She paused to look back at Austin, who was walking slowly behind her now. "Now, they should be just up ahead, so buck up and look happy." She smiled to him. "You can always play with the squirrels that live near home some other time."
Preston had went off to hunt for the afternoon, leaving the family alone to have their quality time together.

Aaricia's ears flicked back as she head her daddy's words. She slowed her pace so she would stay in his line of sight as they neared the big tree that was the meeting place. She skidded to a stop next to the tree and looked around a bit disappointed that Mommy and Austin weren't there yet.
Arctic came up next to his daughter and nuzzled her lovenly. "Looks like we got here first but they should be along soon," he said sensing her disappointment. It had been awhile since the last time they had all been together so he couldn't blame her for being disappointed.

Austin: Austin's ears perked up at the sound of his father's voice up ahead. He sped up and left his mother trailing behind. "Papa!" he called as he came into the clearing near the big tree.
Chayse: Chayse sped up to try and keep up with her son, anxious to let him out of her sight for too long. Then she heard him call to his father, and relief rushed over her. She slowed her pace as she came into the clearing, seeing Aaricia and Arctic over near the tree. She made her way over and nuzzled at her daughter. "Oh sweetie, it's been too long since I saw you last. I've missed you so much. " She licked her cheek and nuzzled her again. She turned her attention to Arctic. "Hello you." she said playfully. "How have you been?"
Austin: "Papa! Aari!" he exclaimed, rushing over to them both. He butted his head against his father's leg, his usual greeting. And smiled widely up at him, and then to his sister. "Hey Aari! Have you met any new foal friends? I've made lots of friends back home. Maybe you can come visit sometime." His smile stayed plastered on his face. He always loved the family visits.

Aaricia giggled and snuggled up to her momma. She looked over at her brother. “I’ve made one new friend, she’s really fun and likes birds as much as I do,” she said with a happy smile. Leaving her mothers side She head butted her brother gently. “Guess what, Daddy has began to teach me to fight,” she stated proudly.
Arctic nuzzled first Chayse then Austin. “Busy,” he said in answer to Chayse’s question. “My two-legger has been traveling a lot lately and Aaricia is still to young to come with so I‘ve had to leave her behind. I have no doubt that Undine can keep Aaricia safe but I still worry,” he said watching the siblings with a loving smile. "How goes things on your end?"

"Mom still won't let me." he frowned. "I think it's really unfair. You get to." Austin looked towards his parents. "Mom, why can't I learn to fight with Aari?"
"Undine seems like a very nice mare. Have you had fun with her Aari?" she asked her daughter. She turned her attention to Austin. "Because, I don't even want Aari to learn to fight, but she lives with your father, so that decision is his." She frowned, and turned back to Arctic. "You know how I feel on this, but I don't wish to spoil our meeting by bringing up the past." She smiled then, a soft smile. "Let's enjoy our family, and the beautiful sunshine today. She looked back to the foals. "Why don't you two go play while your father and I catch up?"
"Oh mom," he groaned, and rolled his eyes, but happily went to play with his sister. "Let's go explore Aari!"

Aaricia looked down and scuffed a hoof on the ground sadly. She hadn’t meant to upset her mother. She peeked up at Chayse considering how to answer her question. “Aunty Undine is a tough but fair teacher that just wants me to be able to travel by myself safely. So please don’t be mad at her and Daddy,” she whispered before taking off after her brother.
“Where should we explore? we can’t go to far away or Mommy and Daddy will be worried,” she asked while looking around.
“To tell you the truth I don’t want her fighting either, if we’re lucky she won’t ever have to use the skills she’s leaning.” He leaned over and nuzzled Chayse gently with a sad smile. Looking after the retreating foals he shook his head. “Don’t go to far you two. Try to stay in hearing range,” he called out to them. He turned his attention back to Chayse. “I wonder if we caused our parents to worry a lot when we were foals,” he mused quietly.

Chayse watched the foals run off to play and turned to Arctic. "So Arctic, how has she been doing in her training. I really miss her, and you for that matter." She nuzzled up against him. "Our children are growing up so fast. It seems like just yesterday they were still in their baskets."
Austin ran ahead of his sister, giggling, and looking back over his shoulder. "I don't know. Wherever the path takes us." he called to her. His little hooves left prints in the snow, leaving a trail so that if they did get lost, they could easily find their way back to their parents.
He spotted some fallen logs ahead and ran over to them. He tried to climb up on top of one, but it was slippery from the melted snow, causing him to fall, with his front legs on one side and back legs on the other side. "Ummmph!" He let out a rush of air from the fall. That wasn't supposed to happen. he thought. Hopefully, Aari hadn't seen his clumsiness. He struggled to stand, but just fell back down onto the log.

Aaricia giggled at her brother. “Looks like I inherited all the grace,” she teased her brother right before slipping on a patch of ice hidden in the snow. “What the?” she asked while trying to figure out how she ended up suddenly on the ground. ‘This is so not my week,’ she thought to herself with a snort.
Arctic sighed, glad Chayse didn’t appear to be to mad about his decision to let Aaricia train with Undine. “She’s doing well, she’ll never match Undine in fighting ability but considering what Undine went through to gain that skill I’m thankful for that. To face life alone is not a fate I want our children or any other foals to ever have to face,” he said looking off to where the foals had disappeared to. Shaking his head to clear it of melancholy thoughts he grinned at Chayse. “Just yesterday Aaricia was in a basket. She tripped and fell into a basket in front of the tepee. Our two-legger was both amused and exasperated by it.”

"Aww, she is still a little clumsy isn't she? I hope that won't affect her training too much." She paused, thinking of her daughter...becoming a fighter. She let out a sigh. "Do you think I should let Austin train as well? I'm just so terrified something will happen to either of them."
She nuzzled against him again, letting his long mane slide over her cheek. She just stood there, her head against his, and a tear slid down her cheek. She was too sentimental sometimes. She was thinking of her children, growing up so fast, and the potential dangers they could face in the future. How could a mother NOT worry about her children?
She looked up at Arctic. "Maybe we should go after them? I don't want them to get lost." She said, her motherly paranoia setting in. "Or what if some skin walker or other dangerous creature finds them. I was so stupid to just let them go off on their own." She said, panic edging into her voice.
"Stop laughing at me!" he snapped, struggling to regain a bit of composure. He finally got both legs on one side, and stood upright. He then noticed Aari had fallen as well. Stifling a giggle, he walked over to her. "Need some help?" he offered.
((I think I want to let Austin start training, and then decide he doesn't want to, since he comes to hate violence. The training could give him insight to the violent nature of fighting, and that's what puts him off it. ))

“Go ahead laugh, I know you want to,” Aaricia said sulkily. She let her head thunk to the ground with a defeated sigh. First the basket yesterday and now this, was the world suddenly out to get her? She was starting to believe it to be so. She shook her head annoyed with herself. ‘Aunty Undine would be ashamed of me’ she thought to herself looking up at her brother. “I think I can get up by myself but I’m not sure how much ice is in this spot. Can you go get daddy?” she asked knowing that Arctic would want to make sure the whole area wasn’t one giant ice spot before she tried to stand.
Arctic nuzzled her. “Better for them to know how to defend themselves and never need it then to be caught unaware.” He shuddered at the thought of one of the more violent soquili getting a hold of one of his children. “I’m sure they’re fine but it wouldn’t hurt to make sure,” he said concerned about the wetness he could feel on her face. Was she crying? He wasn’t used to dealing with female emotions despite being the only male other then a familiar in the tepee.
((Do you want to have him join Aaricia in her training with Undine? Given how harsh Undine can be during a lesson she could easily turn him off of fighting.))

"I suppose you are right, but I will let Austin decide what he wants to do." she said, starting down the path their children had taken. "Let's hurry before their hoof prints are gone." she called behind her. Her cheeks stung from the cold air hitting the wetness of her tears. She didn't take the time to wipe them, only sniffed the air for her children's scent, and ventured forward, hoping he was following.
"Well, I won't laugh, but you should take back that comment about holding all the grace. It's definitely not true." he said sincerely. Looking around at the ground for any more ice, he did see that it might be difficult for his sister to gain traction on this area of ground. He was slipping some himself. Hoping that he too wouldn't fall, he tried making his way over to some snow, where twigs were sticking out of the ground. "It may be best to go get dad, but I don't want to leave you alone." he said, worried that if he did, if he'd get in trouble, or if she might get hurt while he was gone. He reached down with his mouth and pulled out some of the twigs, which were attached to a small branch, which was still attached to a tree near the base of it's trunk. He pulled it as close as he could to Aari. "Do you shink you can pull yourshelf up wisth dis bransch?" He asked her, teeth still clenched around the tree branch. He was still a couple feet from Aari, but he hoped maybe she could reach it if she stretched.

“I take it back,” she said reaching for the branch. Stretching her neck she could just barely reach it. She attempted to get her hooves under her but kept slipping on the ice. Nearing tears Aaricia did the only thing she could think of. Releasing the branch she threw back her head and called as loud as she could, “Daddy!”
Arctic’s ears flicked forward in alarm. Racing past Chayse he slide to a stop next to Austin. With a sigh he said, “Next time your mother has a bad feeling you two aren’t going anywhere.” Stepping forward he pulled Aaricia up and over to her brother. ‘I must remember to add waking on ice to Aaricia’s training,’ he thought to himself warily.

Chayse almost stumbled as Arctic ran past her, but knew what he had heard. She had heard it as well. Their little girl was calling for help. Her heart pained that she had called for her daddy, but then again, she was always with her daddy, so that would be why. As she arrived to see what was going on, she stood in silence taking in her daughter there on the ground, and her son trying to help. She felt a warmth that he had stood by her and tried to help, but at the same time, she was sad that they had been so careless as to let the foals go off on their own. They were still young...and still needing looking after.
As his sister called for their father, he stepped backwards. He hadn't wanted their parents to come, because he knew they'd both be worried, and he would feel responsible for his sister needing to be rescued.
He stood over on the snow out of the way as their father came and helped her up. He looked around for his mother, and saw her approaching right behind their father. She had such a sad look on her face. He went over to her and nuzzled her leg. "It's okay moma, we're both ok. She just slipped on the ice and couldn't get up." he smiled up at her, hoping she might cheer up.
Chayse looked down at her son. "I know honey. It's not that. I'm glad you're both okay, but we shouldn't have let you two come alone. It was just not responsible, of either of us," she said, looking up at Arctic. She nuzzled her son, and went over to her daughter to nuzzle her as well, licking her cheek. "I'm sorry you fell on the ice sweetie. Are you hurt?"
