Name: Soril Age: 19 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Dragonhealer/Candidate Rank: Journeyman/Candidate
History: Soril was hold-bred in High Telgar Hold, both of his parents Healers. As such, he grew up around the craft, and applied to be an apprentice as quickly as he could, having always found it interesting and fascinating, and was moved to the Craft Hall to begin his training. His life prior to that had been relatively uninteresting, doing chores around the hold and the like. Since he began his training, he has been avidly learning his craft from his teachers, studying whenever he could and learning as much as possible.
When he was fourteen, a Dragonhealer had paid a visit to the Craft Hall for one reason or another. Being hold bred and innately curious, having spent very little time around dragons, Soril found an excuse to talk to him and ask him about his specialization. The skill sets and study fascinated him, and long after haunted his memories. It seemed that he couldn't get the Dragonhealer out of his mind.
Time passed for awhile, and he became a Journeyman Healer, following in his parents' footsteps and traveling where he was needed. A Search party came to the Craft Hall when he was sixteen, and when he was back on a visit to to restock supplies, and for general checking in. Just before the Search party was about to leave, he caught the eye of one of the dragons, and soon found it quite close to his face, its color a whirling blue. Before he could even stock his supply bag again, he was whisked back to High Reaches Weyr.
Now that he was among dragons, the difficult-to-forget Dragonhealer memory crept to the front of his mind once more. Prior to this, he had had very rare exposure to dragons, save for the very, very rare need to travel on dragonback for an emergency. Being around them so often was oddly comforting, and he didn't show the fear or even mild aversion that many other hold bred folk did. Then, there was an unfortunate flying accident one day, and a dragon was injured, though not badly, it was enough to call a Dragonhealer forward. He stood nearby, watching avidly and taking notes on what they did, his attention struck and the full extent of his compassion going out to the injured dragon. The next day he went about finding out how to specialize as a Dragonhealer, exhausting his few resources until he finally came about it and begun his training alongside his duties as a Candidate. Though he still hadn't Impressed by now, he had managed to juggle his craft and his Candidacy duties, and became a Journeyman Dragonhealer.
Appearance: Soril is unremarkable in appearance, to say the least. He’s a little taller than average – 5’7”, but very scrawny. He has the muscle mass of a hold worker, but since he was raised as a healer, his physical strength is limited, and he looks, in general, very thin, though it makes him look taller than he is. His face is not memorable, his dark green eyes set just slightly too close together and his nose turned just slightly up, though neither a big enough irregularity to be considered unusual or defining of his face. His dark brown hair is somewhat long, just touching his shoulders, and straight. To keep it from his eyes, he pulls it back, usually in a low ponytail just to keep it out of his way, though there are often a few strands of hair on his forehead that stray from the leather thong they he uses to keep it back. His skin is naturally olive-toned, though he doesn’t tan much in the warm months because he spends a good deal of his time working within the weyr.
Personality: Having grown up under two healers, Soril has an inbred sense of compassion toward living things, human or beast. He finds life to be especially valuable and wants nothing more than to preserve it. His studies and his craft have instilled a patience in him that he did not grow up with, and it finds it very easy to work with people and things that may need an extra moment or helping hand, though his old sense of impatience does show through occasionally if his temper is flared, which doesn’t happen all that often. He has a mild temperament, and while he does occasionally raise his voice, it is probably due to frustration in his studies, since he has a tendency towards people, and enjoys spending time with them.
Concerning his studies, he values them greatly, though doesn’t work or study hard because he feels the need to. He genuinely enjoys his work, and had never been more excited than when he became a Journeyman Dragonhealer. Working closely with dragons has made him envious of their riders and their connection with theirs. When he can tell the rider his having a conversation with their dragons, he always feels his stomach tighten and his teeth clench.
In group settings, Soril tends to be a little too straightforward with others. He had never gained the bedside manner of a healer, and since working with dragons he lost any ounce that he had managed to learn. Sugar-coating is not his strong suit, and his frankness can easily be misunderstood as him being callous. If the topic of conversation stays relatively general, though, he can be quite conversational and pleasant.
He enjoys spending his free times outside of the weyr, since he grew up used to being able to leave the hold and spend time in the farmland and open areas around it. When he’s out in the open, he often things of home and daydreams, losing track of time and being late to evening affairs he may have to attend. Otherwise he tends to be punctual and down-to-earth, if not a little too rational on subjective matters.
Other: Nothing~

Everything's good about your character, the only thing that's stopping me from accepting him is his background.
Healercraft is one of the few Hall Crafts, which means you have to go to a Hall to learn to be a Healer. It's not like farming or fishing which you could learn at home. If he's an apprentice Healer, he would have needed to go to one of the Halls near High Telgar Hold, trained there, and then once he walked the tables proclaimed his desire to specialize as a dragonhealer. He could have done some preliminary studies on his own time before that, but apprentice healers need to have done some general training before they can specialize. Think of it as the high school training before you choose your program in university.
It would also be pretty unlikely for an injured dragon to jump Between and come out in a Hold, especially if he had life threatening injuries. I'd imagine he would have tried to get his rider back to the Weyr if it could.
What I would suggest instead, is to have him maybe meet up with a dragonhealer who was stopping by the Hall, or perhaps have him Searched once he walked the tables. That way he can either be inspired by a dragonhealer or see an injured dragon at the Weyr where you'd find most of your injured dragons. From there he could develop his passion, etc, everything else falls into place.
Make sense?
