Arrow flickered his short, pointed ears with tentative curiosity, his nose slowly nearing a flower with the caution of a rabbit hiding from a wolf. He approached it with an almost wondering look in his eyes, for he had only recently scrounged up enough magic to escape his prison on the carousel, and was new to the world. And suddenly, here he was, doing things of his own free will.
It was strange, to say the least.
He had lived his life doing nothing but following the trail the carousel put him through. And now he was allowed to make his own decisions, which frightened him, although he had longed for it so often before. This was why he left the bright, delicate flower and went back to the carousel (although he managed to trip on the way, as he was used to moving without any conscious effort), spinning round and round it before veering off. It surprised him, to suddenly stop and leave the spinning things whenever he chose, and he did it a few more times, as if to check and make sure.
Suddenly, a certain type of giddiness bubbled from him, and he felt so free he ignored the carousel altogether to explore the world he found himself in, taking it all in with new eyes and senses and will that was completely, absolutely, and utterly his.

Escott had been out of his carousel for a few months now. It had been a little hard for him to leave, but once he had gotten free he had taken off at a run and never looked back. He puffed up his chest and walked around while looking for something interesting to happen, or do. He yawned big and stretched his back and legs before shaking his full mane with a purr. He looked over as he swished his tail behind him and sniffed the air, catching something in the air that smelled like someone to talk to. Maybe play with! He smiled and made his way towards where the smell was coming from. "Hello? Is there anyone near by?" he asked with a slight British Accent.

Arrow was simply overflowing from curiosity. He could barely stay in one place, and from the way he stroked the grass around his paws with care to the way he touched a new object as if it could disappear without any warning at all, it was evident he was still doubtful. Frequently, he had to reassure himself that this was real, and not a simple run of the imagination. And reassured he was, for everything he saw and smelled and heard and felt and did was so new he knew he could not have even imagined it were he in his carousel confinement.
His reassurance was solidified when he heard the voice of another from behind, and he stilled with excitement and fear. He had seen other animals leave the carousel before him, but they had never stayed to chat – why would they? An animal in a carousel couldn’t talk until he was freed – instead preferring to simply leave. This was yet another new experience, and his curiosity was enough to override his fear, and he turned, albeit slowly, to face the newcomer.
“Hello!” he called back tentatively, his ears flattening at the sound. He had never heard his own voice before, and it surprised him to know such a sound could come from him, as he had been mute while part of the carousel. “I-I’m over here.” he finished, his voice fading away.

Escott turned his head and looked around to the direction that the sound had come from. He bounded through the grass, quite happy about the feelings that the act of bounding made him feel. He laughed and came through a bush, which was interesting having things poke him and get stuck in his fur. He laughed softly, a new thing to him, causing him to pause and looked at him self and wonder what had happened just now. He laughed again and then looked up to see a fox, black and white. He smiled and made his way closer. "Was it you who called out to me a moment ago? This place is fun. Have you looked around much? Are there others?" He asked with a smile as he tried to shake the leaves, stickers and grass bits out of his hair.

Arrow could hear the sound of laughter as the stranger approached. It was a nice, cheerful sound, and it made him smile and dispelled some of his fears. The size of the lion as he suddenly appeared from the bushes, however, was enough to get him to wrap his tail protectively about his paws. But upon sighting the foliage decorating the lion’s fur, he couldn’t help but laugh good-naturedly, and the action itself was enough to get him to shed some of his bashfulness. He padded forward to help dark, spotted male clean himself, his eyes expressing his curiosity.
“It was me. I h-haven’t looked around much, though, and I don’t think anyone else is close by,” he murmured, his voice thoughtful as he looked this way and that for other creatures. “But it is fun,” Arrow agreed, his tail giving a slight wag.

Escott smiled at the little fox and laughed. "Oh well its nice to meet you then. They called me Escott when i was attached. What about you?" he asked with a smile as he sat and tried to get the rest of the leaves and stuff from his hair. "How are you feeling after leaving? Do you like it so far." his tummy growled and he jumped a little. "Oh my what was that that came from my middle...?" he asked kind of confused.

”I… I wasn’t given a name,” Arrow replied. “But a lot of people called me ‘Arrow’,” he said, motioning towards the arrow on his right foreleg. It seemed to be his most distinguishable feature. Not even his dark sclera could change that.
‘Goodness, this lion asks a lot of questions,’ he thought. But it was only natural – they were new to the world, after all. The only thing that stopped him from replying back with his own numerous questions was his shyness and his fear of eliciting the male’s anger (although it seemed as if such negative emotions were a foreign thing to the lion).
“It feels… different,” he answered after a moment of thought. Before he could speak again, however, the sound of a growl rumbled from the lion and he jumped in fright. He would have fled had he not noticed that the male was just as confused as he, and he kept an eye on the lion’s stomach, just in case. “I think so.”

Escott looked at the mark on his arm and smiled. "I see why. Its a fitting name i think." He said with a smile as he looked at his tummy. "Has yours made this noise before? I'm a little scared about what i should do now...What does it mean?" he asked as he looked at the male and frowned as he sat back on his hind legs and poked his belly. "It is different isn't it? But i think i like it alot. Do you like it?" he asked sitting back down and smiling at him happily. "Want to explore with me? Maybe we can find an answer to my growling tummy."

Arrow gave a small nod of agreement before turning to look at his own stomach. He prodded it, wondering if it could growl, too, or if it was something only lions, or perhaps only Escott, could do. Returning his attention to the lion, he shook his head. “Mine’s never made the noise before.”
Right as he said it, his stomach rumbled, and he jumped again, ears flat and legs stiff with fear. He waited for something to happen, but felt nothing save for little rumblings in his stomach that died along with the noise. “A-at least it didn’t b-before…” he said, wondering how he was supposed to run from his own stomach if it attacked him. He shrugged helplessly when the male asked what it meant, and agreed to the prospect of exploring, standing close to the lion for his large, solid figure reassured him somewhat. He hoped they would be able to calm their stomachs soon.

Escott smiled at him and laughed. "Did yours scare you too? I wonder what it means..." he said as he walked off with him. He looked over him as they walked. "have you seen very much of this place?" He asked as he sniffed around and looked at everything. "I smell something good...it is making my mouth water..." he said as he sniffed at the ground and saw a rabbit bolt through the grass. His body wanted to go after it and he took a few fast steps towards it and stopped to think about what he had done. "What was that for..." He said to himself as he looked at Arrow to see if he had acted the same way.

”No… I didn’t go very far until you came,” Arrow replied, holding himself low and ready to flee in case danger should show itself. At Escott’s remark, he sniffed, too, and his ears pressed forward. Although he did not recognize the scent of the creature itself, what he knew was enough to convince him to slowly go towards it, for rabbits were a favorite food of foxes.
But the sudden blur that bolted past stilled him, and he stared at it in surprise. He hadn’t expected something that could move, like he and Escott could. He wondered why its smell allured him so, when Escott’s scent didn’t, and his tail twitched as he thought about it.
Suddenly, he remembered a conversation a pair had had, close enough for him to hear. He ran up to Escott, his eyes wide. “Do you love it, too?” he asked, for he could find no other reason why it would appeal to the both of them.

Escott sniffed the air as drool fell from his mouth. "Yes. This feeling...this...hunger? Its amazing and i want it. Do you want to see what happens if we catch one? I keep having this feeling to go after it and catch it...I want to...feel its blood in my mouth." He said as he licked his lips and sniffed at the ground again for another smell that might take him to another animal like the one that had run from them. He walked through the grass and bushes sniffing for it. He moved slowly, quietly, as he waited to hear or smell something to chase.
He came to a small clearing and alot of smells came to him now. There was the smell of that rabbit that had run a moment ago, some kind of weasel...and a deer. He lifted his head and scanned the area for the sign of the animal that had now made his mouth water even more.

Arrow was shocked by the male’s response. He didn’t know such a thing was normal – to thirst for the blood of another – and that it was how others lived and thrived. All he knew was that blood meant pain, and that causing pain was wrong, because it brought hurt and sadness.
“No…,” he said, his voice almost a whisper. He found he was suddenly frightened of the lion, and, pressing his ears flat against his skull, he turned and fled. He scrambled under bushes and over logs, between trees and around the large, jutting rocks in his path. He got himself thoroughly lost, but it didn’t matter, so long as he got away from the lion who he thought wanted to cause pain.
