Well as the title says this is a question of why you picked that character as your main......
Or why you DON'T have a main will do fine as well.
I'll give my reasons later.

FE4 didn't get enough love. Hence, I picked one of the most reliable units of FE4- Ayra.
I didn't know how popular she was in Japan, though. ._.
As for the character I play on the side, Serra... She reminds me so much of my best friend that moved out of state. This helps me keep a piece of her alive, even if it's almost impossible to get in contact with her, now. 3nodding

Well, at first I was Dheginsea. That wasn't too fun, at the time, because I didn't really get RPing as a winged character.
And I chose Ashnard because... idk.

I remember a thread like this before...
I think I chose Rei because I wanted to play a Shaman/Druid, and Canas was taken. Pretty sure it was before FE10 came out, so Pelleas wasn't available. And Rei was useful for me in my one playthrough of FE6, so...

Well as you can see this one is the offical one and should definitly be stickied whee
At first I wanted to be Sain, or Saul but both were taken.....
So I choose Wil because he is normal archer number three.....
Then right after Nils made me a linkcard I saw Joshua was open and chose him because:
1. The Hat
2. He gambles
3. He is a surprisingly deep character with a cool background
4. Joshua=win

Well, some people were taken and I went with Miledy first, but the way I had her in my mind, she came out too serious, and it was hard to get her into the fray of things.
So, I went with Farina because she's crazy and more open.

I picked Roy because...well, everyone had plenty of complaints about him, like how he's the weakest lord and such. But that was in actual FE canon, and most of those people ended up RNG screwed because the stat growths in FE6 were ridiculously pathetic for almost everyone.
Oh, and he ended up being one of my best characters in Smash Bros. Melee. That, plus having one of the most female pairings in which he can get married to, plus having a weapon that can do both magical and physical damage (and heal himself o: ), really helped in my decision.
I would have otherwise picked Eliwood, but...he was already taken when I joined. sweatdrop

Hmm. I picked Canas Mainly cause he is clumsy, like myself, and because I am Nino's Uncle. ^^ Would a better explanation be needed?

I like playing catgirls and I'm a Ranulf fangirl. She fits my srs personality sometimes and Tibarn suggested I be her. So thus I became Lethe.

Originally, I started out as Ursula. I chose her because Ninian and a few others I like were taken, and she was the only one I was both familiar with and willing to be. After the massive character purge, Ninian was open, and thus I chose her. I like her as a unit in FE 7 (dancers/bards/herons I find extremely useful), and especially as a character, even if she does blame herself for things that aren't really her fault, but hey, not everyone's perfect; plus I can identify with her in a lot of ways. And it's definitely been a blast playing her. =)

I initially didn't want a character. But then I thought "why not?"
I originally wanted Niime, who I may switch to in the future. Although she isn't too good, magical old crones are badass. But I chose Skrimir instead, because he is one of my favorite characters, he needs a resolution, and because he is nothing like me.

Well... I chose Lyre because she's a rarely used and quite frankly because she's pretty. She doesn't have a hugely developed personality in the games, so I figured she could use more love. Originally I had wanted to be Amelia or Leanne- but Leanne was taken, and I wasn't feeling the Amelia vibe.
And this was before I played FE4. If I'd played FE4 before I chose my character, I'm pretty sure I'd be Lachesis. :3

Quite some time back I had been Gatrie. I chose him because...well, I had gotten him to be a tank for me that pretty much kept all my other units alive. Plus, I have a feeling that some knights don't get enough love. There were other units that were already taken that I normally use, though I haven't gone for anyone else since the last Halloween event I was Gatrie. I stick with Ziaram now.
