For one of the first times since she started school, the teasing had gotten the best Adelle Mariana By'arre. The young girl bolted down the hallway, tears pouring down her cheeks as she did so, unable to escape the words that had chased her out of class. She was stupid. She was too hyper, to annoying, she could never sit still, she was so over-excitable she'd cut off her own fingers.
When she reached the end of the hallway, she purposefully ran right into the corner of the wall, collapsing at the base of it and sobbing into her hands, dangerous wings wrapping around herself to try and seal her off from the rest of the world. Both tentacles were too concerned to follow any angered actions, gently stroking at what they could reach of the young girl. She honestly thought that she'd gotten away from the rest of the planet and had gotten near quelling her tears when the hall monitor showed up.
"Hey, aren't you that girl who cut off her own fingers?"
She shoved past the girl and pelted down the hall, down to the advanced placement class, standing on her tiptoes and peering through the window of the classroom. Tears still pouring down her cheeks, she used her wings to reflect the sun onto his desk, trying to catch his attention. She wanted to leave. She wanted to run, run far, far away and she wanted Fitzroy to come with her. She wanted Fitzroy to steal her away from the school and away from all the people and their jeering and the words that pierced her heart in the worst sort of ways.

It was a good thing Fitzroy was in Math right then, a subject that never really had held his attention, or else it would have taken some time for him to catch Adelle's hint. The boy could be horrendously dense sometimes.
However, as luck would have it, he was staring off into space at the precise right angle for Adelle's metal wings to flash into his eyes. Blinking and flailing a little bit, he tried to regain his vision and then ducked a little to glance in the direction of the light. When he saw his friend, teary eyes glimmering, a worried look immediately crossed his face, and he nodded surreptitiously in her direction. After worrying for only a moment about his stuff, which included the prized comic book he was going to show off to his friends later, he wiggled slightly before sticking his hand up in the air. "Um, excuse me? Uh... C-Can I go to the bathroom?" A gleeful smile spread on both of his mouths when his teacher waved him on; he was such a good kid that most of the teachers wouldn't have batted an eye if he's just left. He didn't know how well that reputation was going to last after today, but Adelle was more important than that, for sure.
As soon he was outside the classroom, his arms, already developing muscle, were around her, ignoring any cuts her evil wings gave him. Making soothing noises gently, he patted her hair softly, trying to calm her down. "Shh, shh, 'Delle, it's okay. What's wrong?" he asked, pulling back and wiping a tear away from her cheek with a thumb. He was understandably distressed; he could count the number of times he'd seen her cry on one hand.

Adelle shook impatiently after she'd caught her friends attention, tears streaming down her face as she tried to pull back sobs. When his hand went in the air, she gave the weakest of pained smiles and turned to hide herself outside of the door, so as to not be noticed when he walked outside. Both hands pressed to her mouth and she suppressed her sobs for the moment. As hard as she tried to be a good, sweet girl, it never really seemed to work quite the way she wanted it to. Unintentionally, she managed to earn the title of 'troublemaker', and she knew that she would get in trouble for stealing the star pupil of their school. Lucky for her, the boy was her best friend, and was quick to drop everything when she was upset. Not that the rest of the school even accepted that as the truth. After all, she was the reject and once again, he was the smartest kid in school. How could they even exist on the same plane?
A soft, hiccuping gasp fell from Adelle's lips when her hero emerged and she threw her arms around his shoulders, burying herself in the perfect crook beneath his chin, letting loose the sobs that she'd been trying hard to hold back. The gluttony boy pulled back before she did, and when the thumb stroked across her face, it was a comforting feeling, but that wasn't what she wanted. Once again, she buried herself in the space between his neck and chest, shaking as she clung tightly to the elder male. She sobbed quietly, muffled by the fabric of Fitzroy's half-shirt, and shook her head at the question. Everything!! Everything was wrong! So why couldn't she say it?
"...e-everything..." she stammered quietly, barely lifting herself enough for the phrase to be heard properly. Watery brown eyes lifted to look at Fitzroy and a wobbly smile slowly spread on her lips. "W-w-woul- C-can... F-Fissyr-roy? C-an we go-o? Pl-e-ease?"

Fitzroy looked down at his sobbing friend in great distress, wondering what on Earth had happened to make the normally-joyful girl so sad. Well... okay, he partially knew what the problem was. He'd seen how the other kids at school loved to tease Adelle, especially after her accident. She wasn't just a spaz, she was a spaz that crippled herself! The very idea made him angry, and although he did his best to defend her from those terrible people, he couldn't go to every class with her. And apparently the bullies took advantage of that.
When she spoke shakily, Fitzroy's brown eyes widened slightly. For a split second, he was horrified at the implications, how they would get in monumental trouble, but the tears and the hopeful smile on his best friend's face gave him courage. Face set, he nodded once, giving her another huge hug, Pac-man nibbling at her stomach affectionately. "Of course we can, 'Delle. As far away as you want." Linking their hands in their unique way, he led her down the halls and, after a panicky moment where they had to dodge the hall monitor, along the streets.
After about five minutes, he stopped, a tentative smile on his face. "So, where would you like to go, Adelle? As-As long as it doesn't require money," he added a little guiltily.

Adelle shuddered softly in her best friend's strong, green-speckled arms. Sighing shakily, she used her emptied lungs to inhale the rich scent of the boy, smiling pleasantly to herself despite the smile itself spurring more tears. She giggled quietly and cutely when Pac-man nibbled on her tummy, shielded by her shirt. Gently, the girl nuzzled into the crook of the gluttony spawn's neck.
The young brunette fluttered a bit as both Kammy and Sutry clung to Fitzroy. "Thank you, Fitzyroy, so much, so much," she replied sweetly, hugging him tight and close. Finally, she let him go, Sutry thrashing angrily that she'd done so. Her hand took a tight hold of his, taking a shuddering deep breath and letting him lead her out of the building.
It was so different to be outside when she was supposed to be in school. She looked around when Fitzroy asked where she wanted to go, making a half-minded comment when he said he had no money. "Silly Fitzroy, Grampa gave me a credit card, 'member?" she said, more of a statement than a question.
"I wan'na go to the park," she said finally. Adelle wasn't really happy yet, though. Although they didn't fall down her face, tears kept shining in her eyes. She walked at a normal pace, much slower than she usually would have. The park they found was a medium sized one, and it was completely empty. She fluttered gently, almost happily, at that fact, her hand slipping out of Fitzroy's as she ran over to a swing. She sat on it and pushed off, swaying forward and back as she stared up into the gloomy, cloud-covered sky.

Fitzroy nodded when Adelle reminded him of her grandpa's immense wealth, but wasn't really surprised when she decided to go to somewhere that's free anyway. For whatever reason, that seemed like a better idea. Smiling gently, he nodded. "Okay. Let's find one." As they walked, Pac-man licked Adelle's arm gently. He was worried about her too.
Fitzroy smiled sadly at his depressed friend when she sat on the swing, the tears in her eyes making him want to cry as well. It was so ridiculously unfair that those stupid bullies at school picked on her. She was the sweetest girl he knew; she didn't deserve that, especially over something that she couldn't control. After promising to teach those bullies a lesson next time he saw them - how was another matter entirely - he walked around and gave Adelle a gentle push.
After a few minutes of silence, he ventured a hesitant question. "So... Do you wanna talk about what happened, 'Delle? I mean, you don't have to. Just.. Just if you wanna," he ended with a murmur.

Adelle smiled faintly when she was pushed in the swing by her friend, swaying slightly to stay airborne and letting him push her higher and higher until she was too high for him to really make any difference. She breathed in the air deeply as she kicked her legs back and forth, staring out into the sky before closing her eyes and imagining herself flying through that sky and off into new and exotic places, places far away that only existed in dreams and imaginations and the pretty, pretty books and poems that Fitzroy read to her sometimes.
Finally, she reached the height of her swing again and let go, jumped off the end of it and spread her metallic wings while holding her breath, bracing for an impact that never came. When she opened her brown eyes, she was floating slowly to the ground and brightly smiled at that - so, her wings were good for something, she supposed. She hit the ground by the time Fitzroy asked her what happened, and the depression of the time crept up on her again, from her feet and then all the way up the rest of her body.
"Same thing it is all the time, Fitzyroy..." she mumbled quietly, flopping down on one of the higher steps of the playground, chin falling onto her palms as she started mocking voices. "'Why can't you sit still?' 'You never do it right.' 'Why are you so stu- so st-stu-p-pid'..." She hadn't even noticed the tears running down her face until the sobs came, too, and she curled up in a little ball, holding in those emotions for a moment before they came out in a flood and she began sobbing quietly to herself, waiting for her prince to come rescue her.

Fitzroy's eyes widened when Adelle didn't fall back to earth but rather descended, gliding onto the ground with all the grace of an angel. Which made sense to the child, seeing as she was more angelic than anyone he knew, even beyond the genetic component. The image was enough to evoke a dreamy smile onto his face before he realized it was there.
Of course, when Adelle's expression changed for the worst, that smile didn't say. It slipped like oil off of the spawn's face as his features hardened into an unfamiliar expression for the sweet boy: hate. He absolutely hated those stupid kids at school for how they teased Adelle, to the point that she even started crying! How could something like that be allowed? It was black and thick and in the pit of his stomach, and it was only the sound of Adelle's trembling voice dissolving into sobs that brought him back from his momentary reverie.
Fitzroy let his face loosen, grow soft and sympathetic as he slid beside Adelle, arms wrapped around her shoulders loosely. He stroked her hair gently and made soothing noises, trying to keep his voice steady. Truth be told, seeing his best friend bawl like this made Fitzroy want to cry too, but he couldn't. He needed to be strong for her today; he couldn't freak out like he did when she had her accident.
"Shh, shh, 'Dellie... Oh, Adelle, I'm so sorry. I know it's really hard to ignore them, but it's totally retarded how they pick on you and you should try to let it not to get to you..." Reaching around, he tucked his finger under her chin and pulled up her face, smiling sadly at the tears and wiping away as many as he could with his thumb. "They're just not lucky enough to know the real you. The super-sweet and cheery and brave girl who can run circles around anyone and do it for hours and gives the best presents and is kind to absolutely everyone and has the prettiest mommy and is also so, so pretty." He nuzzled her head gently with his. "That's the girl I'm lucky enough to have as a best friend, 'Delle. And she's awesome."

The sobs that fell from her mouth shook the small girl's entire frame, even her metal wings quivering with the tremors that overtook her. The warmth of her friend so close to her allowed her to not even hesitate as she fell against him, crying softly and burying her head in the crook of his neck as she did so, shuddering gently as she cried. Part of her didn't want him to speak, simply wanted the moment to continue in silence as she trembled against him and wished the rest of the world away. But that was not what happened. What happened instead was a miracle.
Or... not. It wasn't a miracle. It was so, so much better than that.
Adelle's crying quieted to listen to the words that fell from Fitzroy's lips, words of kindness and sweetness that would come only from that adorable glutton. Her tremors slowed, diminished slowly, replaced by butterflies flitting around in her stomach, her heart fluttering in the same signature fashion. The tears that continued to fall from her brown eyes were no longer tears of pain but of joy, of disbelief that her friend could really mean all of the beautiful things that he was saying about her, that those could honestly be such a contrasting truth to what all of the kids had told her time, and time, and time again.
But when she looked into his eyes, there was no deceit. There was no dishonesty. There were no lies. There was only the warm, loving, sugar-coated truth that slipped between razor sharp teeth, raising a blush on the palest of faces. Adelle shifted in beside her friend, chin resting on his shoulder as she smiled up at him, tears still glimmering in her eyes. Both small tentacles tried their hardest to hold onto Fitzroy, for once being very content to not cause any problems, to simply stay where they were the least in the way. The reasons were obvious, however, as pale lids lowered over chocolaty brown eyes and the young girl followed little more than impulse when she moved forward, gently capturing Fitzroy's lips against her own, just as she'd always seen in the movies.
And now, she was the star.

To be honest, a kiss was the last thing that Fitzroy had expected. Sure, he was a boy and Adelle was a girl and they were hugging and stuff, but up until that point, he'd just seen them as friends. Okay, they were really, REALLY good friends, and sure, seeing Adelle made him more excited than seeing anyone else, but a kiss? It just seemed so... grown up.
However, within a few seconds, Fitzroy found himself growing rather comfortable with the concept. Eyes that had shot open gently shut themselves, and hands that had jumped up to push the girl away instead carefully enclosed her arms, pulling her closer if they did anything. A tremor seemed to run through him as he realized he could practically feel how happy he was making her. Even Sutry was behaving himself for once. The slightest of smiles wormed its way into his lips. If Adelle was happy, well, then he was happy too.
About an eternity later, Fitzroy pulled back, a blush tainting the green speckles on his face as he laughed awkwardly, looking at the ground in embarrassment. Pac-man was still reaching out with his tongue to comfort Adelle in his own way, even as Fitzroy locked her brown eyes with his, one hand futzing with his hair. "W-Wow. Th-Th-That was... Nice..." The more he looked at her, the more he couldn't believe it. Could the prettiest girl that he knew have actually kissed him? Maybe it was a hallucination brought on by skipping school...

And then they rejoice and hug and kiss and then they find a swing club and ALL IS WELL.
-will never otherwise get to finishing this roleplay, sadly-
