'Just stop thinking about him... It's all in the past.' A bright pink fox, her long, tricolored tail dipped into the water, sat alone on a rock at the shoreline. The expression on her face was dreamy; there was little to no chance that this contemplative female was actually paying attention to her surroundings, lush and beautiful as they were.
It was so unlike her.
Normally, she would be swimming, skipping, or singing to herself, enjoying life to its fullest. Ever since the loss of her mate, she tried her best to do everything that they talked about doing together. She even traveled farther from her homeland than ever before, landing in this new place that she now called home. But today, she just felt off... The depression had hit her again. Perhaps it was just the way that the sun was shining off of the water, the sound of the waves hitting the shore. As clear as the day it happened, she could see the boat leaving, her beloved Patrick waving and blowing kisses from the stern as his brothers laughed and prodded him. As that boat disappeared over her mind's horizon, the cold seeped under her fluffy coat, reminding her that she was utterly alone.
Days like this, shoving memories that she was trying to forget back into the forefront, were the worst. It took all of the concentration she had left beyond her thoughts to keep from crying. At least she was managing that much.

A demon noodle has decided that she too would take a trip by the shoreline. She had wanted time to think. Her father had gone into one of his overly depressed sort of moods and she was getting tired of cheering him up multiple times. Her father was quite ridiculous, honestly. A daughter should not have to take care of her father so much as she did.
It didn't take her long to notice the poor orange and pink girl on the rock. The demon couldn't help but wonder if the girl was bothered by something. She was alone with such a distant look on her face after all. Maybe she was thinking deeply about something troublesome perhaps...
Yareli could tell when a person was upset easily. It was that one talent she had that she wished she didn't have. However, the girl might just be tired for all Yareli knew and at the moment Yareli was just going to assume that was the case.
This assumption, however, didn't stop Yareli from going over next to the girl's rock to get a better look. It was pretty chilly as well. Yareli had to wonder if the girl was sick too. That was also possible. Yareli sat down and stared at her own reflection and the girl's besides her for a moment before actually speaking up. "Kind of chilly just to be sitting around, don't you think?"

Slowly, the long, pink ears perked up, their pastel yellow tufts fluttering as they settled into their new positions. As the world rebuilt itself around Moira, her rock, and the water, she looked over and saw that a demonic fox had managed to find her while she wasn't looking. Normally, she would greet the blue one with a cheery grin and a few charming words. The way she attempted to fulfill this usual welcoming came off as downright pathetic.
The weak, obviously forced smile was accompanied by the half-lidded gaze, and a quiet, almost weary voice. "It is a bit chilly, in't it? Guess it's like that near the water, though..." It was harder not to cry now that someone was here. Whether it was because of embarrassment or some psychological yearning to release her feelings, she took a deep breath to prevent the tears from coming. This was a stranger. She wouldn't want to hear of that thing that Moira had so naively considered behind her just yesterday. That would just be weird.
Moira listened to the quiet lapping of the waves as she looked the other female over. Her pelt, in some places, held designs ranging from simple to intricate, and she possessed the horns and wings of a demon. That was alright; she'd met kind demons before. Certainly, this one walking up to her instead of pushing her off of her perch and into the water was a sign that Moira had little to fear here.

Yareli gave a nod in response to the girl. Oh she knew forced smiles too well. She had known someone who tried that tactic on her the day she was born. However, this girl was quite obvious with her distress. Yareli's ears folded back at the look out of habit. This sort of thing normally annoyed her. It was none of her business, however... So she couldn't scold the other for such things like she would with someone she knew, though she already wished she could. The other looked like the type to take things to heart. A nice, polite, girl most likely... The somewhat of an opposite of herself... Somewhat.
Yareli brought her gaze over to the actual fox, looking quite serious. "If you are unhappy you may frown if you wish. It would be slightly less painful to look at. There really is no need to lie like that to a stranger," Yareli said after a moment more of silence. "Whatever is bothering you probably won't go away by holding back."

The phony grin slid right off of Moira's maw as the other fox spoke, and was quickly replaced by a shocked frown. Her eyes widened, the bottoms lined with tears that refused to fall completely from their shelters. For a moment she sat like that, a bewildered expression on her face that would have been comical in a different sort of situation.
"Where ah come from, lass, it's just the opposite... Ye keep yer feelings fer yer friends an' kin, an' don't let the strangers see yer tears. Guess that might be considered rude around here." She sighed deeply, a paw going up to wipe her eye before she would go on. "I'm sorry. Ah don't mean to make ye feel uncomfortable. Yer, ah, quite good at peggin' how people are really feelin'..." Moira shook her head lightly, making no attempts to resume a happy expression just yet. Her mind was still dwelling on Patrick, and it certainly wasn't helping her to feel any less like a fool in front of this stranger. The surprise faded away from her eyes and lips, leaving a deep, lonely sadness behind in their wake.

Yareli smirked. The girl here had a point. A real good point. She was a complete stranger. She really shouldn't be telling this girl what to do. However, Yareli couldn't stand such depressing behavior. It just hit a nerve in her these days.
"Well... Out of all honesty you aren't that hard to read. For me anyway. I got a dad who tries to cover up his feelings when he's feeling down all the time. I guess I've just had the right amount of practice to see it in other people too," she said with a shrug. "I'm not asking for you to talk about it to me if you don't want to, but I'm doubting hiding it makes you feel any better... Or at least I guess it wouldn't. Who knows really..."

"Oh... Well, I'm sorry about, er... Tha'..." Moira hung her head low, and pinned the long, pink ears flat against her neck. The apology was sincere, even if she wasn't quite sure whether it was about her own predictability, the girl's father, or her having the misfortune of being around depressed folk. And it was clear, she thought, that if anyone knew how to lift her spirits, it certainly wasn't Moira. Hiding it, not discussing it, trying to forget... Obviously, these weren't working. And so, the blue female did seem to have a stable argument as far as that was concerned. One of the things she hadn't tried was talking about it. Perhaps, then, it was worth a try.
This, however, placed Moira in an awkward situation. She didn't want to seem desperate, or... Well, too familiar with someone she had just met. Instead, she sat quietly for a moment, looking down at the water lapping rhythmically against her rock. Watching the waves go in and out, in and out... It helped her to focus for a moment, and after a deep breath, she finally reached up and rubbed the stubborn tears out of her eyes.
"Ah just lost someone close to me a while ago," she said simply, being careful not to go into too much details. "Times like this, I miss 'im... Tha's all..." She flexed her yellow toes against the damp stone beneath her, and brought her pale violet eyes back up to the girl. Oh, she hoped that she wasn't making this whole meeting more awkward than it already was...
