Fingers drummed anxiously against the steering wheel as he sat in the car in his driveway. Right. He should be....he should be going now. Don't want to be late. That would be....bad. Yes. Bad. So.
God damn it, what the hell was he so worried about? It was just Guin. Just...going out...with Guin. On a date with Guin. That...didn't quite make sense yet. It still hadn't quite sunk in yet, despite the fact that he had a bit of time to try and figure it out. So...best not to think about it. Key in ignition, foot on the gas, drive, drive, drive.
And before he knew it, he was there. Sitting in his truck in front of her house. Right. Not...gonna think about it. Because then it wouldn't make any sense.
Gggggod damn it, just go already. So with a sigh he slid out of the truck and walked up to the door, ringing the bell before he could think about about it.

Guinevere knew two things.
Firstly, tonight would be her first date with anyone, ever, and like most feminine girls, she had high expectations for a thing like that.
Secondly, her first date with anyone, ever, was with Aethelind, and it was all his fault.
She refused to take the blame for any of this. He had baited her, played this awful prank on her, which was clearly not her fault. It wasn't her fault for just asking questions at him, but he'd probably try to make out like it was her fault. Well, she wouldn't let him get away with that. Guinevere hadn't expected to be tricked into her first date, but she was darn, no, damn well sure that everything else was going to be perfect. Just like she had imagined it would be. That said, she had spent four hours getting ready. Nice new dress, hair swept into a gentle updo, she would look delicate if it weren't for the facts that she had a pretty solid frame and her wings were jagged blades.
The blades always ruined her party getups.
Looking at herself in the mirror one last time as she finished her makeup, she finally opened the door. The dress made her seem to sweep out, all softness and grace. The only thing that was less than lovely was the expression on her face, complete, grim determination. Her gaze leveled on the (oh God) pickup truck, and then settled on the driver. She had been prepared for this.
"Lind, please come inside and change into something suitable." Despite the please, it was not a request. She was going to get her perfect date, come hell, high water, or pickup trucks.

Okay, well. If she really wanted all of that, and knowing what she knows, even at the point in time of her asking, why did she ask Lind? Because, jesus, did she even...I mean..really. Really. Really.
And he is not taking any of the blame for this, she was the one that started asking questions, and if she didn't want to know the answers to them then she could just not have asked, and it's not his fault for answering them, she was just being nosy. She would have just gotten all grumpy if he hadn't, this is hardly his fault.
Of course, none of that probably mattered, since she would blame him anyway. Oh well.
But still, did she have to act like he was completely uncivilized and had no manners at all? Kind of insulting.
Having been expecting something along the lines of what she had said, he had come prepared. (Why didn't he just dress like that in the first place, then? Who knows.) So with something of a sigh, he went back to the truck, pulled out a stack of clothes, and returned to the doorway. Right. Inside. Changing. So he slid in side past Guin (mostly Guin's wings, actually), and after a a bit of direction asking, found somewhere to change in.
And a few minutes later he emerged, in actual nice fancy clothes, looking respectable and clean and everything. Even took out most of the jewelry just for her.
"Right, as I was going to say" she said as he smoothed a barely noticable wrinkle from the front of his pants. "You lookvery nice."

Guinevere sagged as he came out and relented. "Okay, I'm sorry." she said. "I'm sorry, I jumped to conclusions." Why he hadn't just dressed like that in the first place, she wasn't sure, but things had just become slightly more okay.
"Look, I know that all this was..." She searched for a suitable word to describe the catastrophic strangeness of the concept of her first date being with Lind that was still kind, and settled for, "Sudden, but I just want my first date to be, you know, nice. Can we do that?"
She had planned everything out already. When Guinevere started asking people things like 'Can we do that', it really meant that she was about to attempt a hostile takeover of the situation. "But you look nice, too." she conceded. "Handsome."
It wasn't that she wouldn't admit Lind wasn't normally handsome. He was just normally also vaguely bummish. it didn't look bad on him, but Guinevere was the kind of girl who preferred a man in a clean suit to a guy in a loose t-shirt.

Well. He didn't do that in the first place because....because. That's why. Because. Not sue he could come up with an acceptable answer for that one.
Lind held his hands up defensively, not seeming to be too terribly offended. Hey, can't really blame her for thinking that, can he? "Right. Nice can done," Guess he better go and get the massive quantities of booze and drugs out of his car then.
That was a joke, by the way.
...Hopefully.
"Thank you," he said with a grin. Sometimes manages to not be covered in grease and oil sometimes, you know. A true miracle. "So," he said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I'm takinga wild stab in the dark here in thinking that you already have something planned?"
Hey. It's Guin. Not the sort to just go into something she doesn't know about.

Guinevere nodded fervently. Now was her chance to steer this date in the right direction! "Yes, well I thought maybe we could spend a nice evening at the theatre. They're playing Love's Labours Lost downtown, and I heard it's a good performance, so I think we should go see it, and then maybe after that we can take a walk around the park, and then go home."
A short date. Guinevere was just as embarrassed as Lind was about the whole situation, and she was sure that two people who were still a little shellshocked about the fact that they were in each others' company on a Saturday night didn't make for the best date. It certainly didn't make for good conversation. "Anyway, if you have any ideas, feel free," she added grudgingly. She didn't say 'feel free to say them'. Guinevere couldn't quite get herself to make room for other peoples' ideas still, especially on her first date. But she had tried her hardest to admit that Lind might have also had plans, no doubt different from hers.

"Sounds good," Not...that he would really have any suggestions that would go over well with her, so would just...go with the flow. Seemed to be the best choice at the moment. Besides, would be mean to just mess things up for Guin for no reason.
And hey. It's not like going out with him is the end of the world or anything. "Right. Will have to cancel the monster trucks and the strippers then..." he said almost to himself as he thoughtfully stroked his chin as if there was a beard there.

Guinevere rolled her eyes. "Sarcasm duly noted." she said dryly, and, since she felt guilty, asked "Okay. What did you have planned, then? I mean seriously, not sarcastically."
A pause as the horrible thought that he might have been serious about the strippers crept into Guinevere's mind. She didn't know how boys' minds worked. For all she knew, that was a typical boy's idea of a nice date. After all, she had heard things about men. Not very complimentary things.
Deciding to opt for giving the male sex a chance to prove themselves to her before she mentally tarnished their already shaky reputation, Guinevere pushed the thought from her mind.

There was a moment of silence after Guin's question, a silence only filled by a grin. Ohoho, she thought he was being sarcastic? My, my, my. "Okay," he said "You caught me, no strippers." There was another pause as he rocked back on his heels, as if thinking about what he was going to say. "...They were actually hookers."
Also, the vast majority of men are not well represented by Lind, just so Guin knows. Not so good to base them all off of him.
"...that was more sarcasm, in case you were wondering."

Guinevere laughed hollowly. "If all our conversations are going to be like this, I suspect that it's going to be a long night," she informed him. "But if you don't want to tell me, that's fine. I don't care."
She cared. Guinevere was nosy about everything, especially things that involved herself, and the fact that she wanted to know was written on her face. However, she was torn between wanting her first date to go exactly as she planned it and finding out whether Lind had anything in mind. Biting her lip, she shrugged and said, "Okay, let's go, then."
Ten seconds later, she added, "But assuming that I hadn't planned anything, even though I have, what would we be doing right now?"
Guinevere was her own worst enemy.

"Guin," he said, managing to sound like he was uninterested and highly offended at the same time. "Do you think that I would purposefully be doing this?" The front door was held open and there was a gesture for her to go first.
"Although," there was a pause as he followed Guin through the door, shutting it behind him. "That is a secret I will be taking with me to the grave." There was another pause, filled only with the click of the door latch behind them. "Because its simply too awesome."
Or he was just...being ridiculous, as he is frequently.

"Well, no," Guinevere admitted, "But I wasn't purposefully doing it either! Don't you plan for things when you find out you're doing them? At all? A little?" Guinevere was the type of person to whom spontaneity was difficult. If she knew something was on her schedule, she just had to think about how she wanted it to go and try to organize it in her mind until it was perfect.
He was just pretending he had planned something to annoy her, she bet. He was just telling her that he had planned something to make her wonder about it for the rest of her life, probably to get revenge for her accosting him when he came to get her. Well, she wouldn't let it get to her. She would show him just how uncaring she could be.
Twenty minutes later, she muttered, "The theatre's on the left." From the way she was staring stubbornly out the window, it was clear that Lind's ruse was working anyway.

Guin was given a rather contemplative look. "Do you ever just go with the flow, sometimes?" he asked in response. "You might be surprised by how well it works out sometimes." Fingers drummed against the steering wheel for a second before he added; "Also, would kind of keep you from flipping out over things that don't go quite right."
A grin spread across his face, though he didn't mention it any more. While he was always up for a bit of good-natured teasing, he (generally) tried not to take it too far. Especially when the teased was already in something of a bad mood to begin with.

Guinevere shot him a Look. "Of course I go with the flow! Just because I like to plan things, doesn't mean- What do you mean, flipping out, I am not flipping out." She took a deep breath and said, "I just want things to go as well as possible on my first date ever, even if it happens to be somewhat accidental, insofar as these things go."
With that out of the way, she hopped out of the car in front of the theatre. "Are we going in?" she asked antsily. She didn't like talking about herself, least of all to Lind, who was hardly complimentary about it. Guinevere liked finding things out about other people, but she didn't stop for self-contemplation. It only led to trouble, and after all the issues in her life, she had quite enough of that. "Anyway, what about you?" she demanded. "Being go with the flowy all the time got you into this mess, and you have to admit that your life could do with a bit more organization."

Sometimes, Guin, sometimes when you try and disprove something you just end up proving it even more. "Look, if you keep thinking it's not going to go well, then you're never going to have fun which is the point, right?"
....Right?
There was a small sigh as he got out of the car, jamming the keys into his pocket. "Hey, I have most of my days all planned out already, it's nice to not worry about having to be somewhere or get something done by a certain point, you know?" The door was held open for Guin yet again.
"Besides, who ever said that this was a mess?"
