Well I take adderall XR (30mg) for school almost every day..
But it makes me feel like i'm not really alive.. Like everything is passing by so fast and I'm just watching myself do nothing or do work that I can't even remember when i'm off meds..

When the medication wears off, it has this side-effect, where you get all emotional and weird.. Usually i start crying if someone talks to me at that time..

I really hate taking the medication.. I have no life and I feel like everyone else is having a great time when i can't find anything to say & I barely speak a word the entire day..

But if i DON'T take the medication, my grades will slip RAPIDLY... I mean.. A/B to C in less than a few DAYS..

I feel so down & alone when I take meds.. But if I don't I'll be stressed because of my grades.. I don't know what I should do.. Help?

Could you try to see if you could get your perscription changed either to a different medicine or a different dose of what you have now? Also, have you told your parents and/or doctor about these side effects? Talk, see what can be done. *hugs* And try not to be so down. smile

Isn't adderall like speed?
I remember watching a show on it. o_o;;

I know how you feel- sort of. I was on Concerta for a while in middle school. I felt like a zombie.

Maybe try a different perscription or dosage?
You should definately, definately talk to someone.

Right, talk to your doctor who prescribed this medication. Chances are, he'll switch you or change your dosage.

Go to your doctor and ask if there is anyway the meds can be changed. I don't recomend going off them just because you can, ask your doctor if there is anything that might be less constricting.

but aren't most medications the same..?
changing the dosage will just alter how long the effect of the drug is..

They may be for the same purpose but a lot of the medications are totally different chemicals. It's like Tylenol and Advil. They both treat pain but with two different kinds of chemicals. So you may find that one chemical works much better for your body then a different one. It's definitely worth trying.

And changing the dose may bring a better balance between suppressing your ADHD tendencies and the side effects you are feeling. It might not make you feel perfect either way but it may make things more manageable.

I would definitely recommend to try talking with your doctor about having your dose or your prescription / medication changed altogether.

Something else to look into, which I found rather interesting... studies have shown the relationship between ADHD and diet. My family sees a chiropractic clinic, but the guy is also a nutritionist... he fixed all my digestive problems simply by eliminating wheat (who knew?), but he also got my sister to get off all her ADHD medications simply by having her eliminate wheat, corn, and corn syrup from her diet. Just something to think about!

My brother had the same problems, his problem was that the pill was only half dissolving in his stomach, 'causing the little things to not take effect. They increased his dose by 10mg, and things started to seem better. But, it's only been a week, who knows?

Yes! Turns our my mother has trouble digesting yeast. Of all of the random things... But often times carefully cutting different things out of your diet can help. Good advice.

I did the opposite of slowly cutting things out. My nutritionist put both me and my sister on this food meant to help cure inflammation of the intestine, aka leaky gut syndrome, which comes about by eating things you can't digest. The food stuff was mixed with water, it tasted basically like really sugared up vitamins (which is what it was), but it helped a lot.

I didn't eat lots of things for almost 2 months. I stopped wheat, corn, barley, soy, red meat, dairy, and some other veggies I can't remember but wasn't eating to begin with anyways. After the two months I slowly added things back in. I came to the discovery that it was the corn and wheat that really made me sick. Nowadays though, I can eat them, so long as it's not every day. Because my intestines are healed, I can digest things better now, meaning that my antidepressant dose was decreased. The gluten (found in grains like wheat and corn) was irritating my sister's system, which is apparently what caused the ADHD/ADD/whichever one she has. whee

I think it's basically a good experiment for anyone to try, even if they're feeling only a little off.

Look up the drug via this link, lurb.

There are alternative drugs. Ask your mom to take you to the doctor to discuss it.
