True, but 94% of all U.S. citizens celebrate Christmas in some way, shape, or form. Now, I'm not saying that it's wrong to say "Happy Holidays", but I'm getting tired of the big deal people are making of stores saying "Merry Christmas".

littlechimp well they take Jesus out of everything and my gosh.. christmas is all about jesus' birth and they shouldnt take it out of that. If that is the case, tell me, why don't you actually celebrate it on Jesus's real birthdate? Wouldn't it make more sense that way? How would you feel, if I took the Christian holydays and turned them into pagan holidays? I mean, that's what the Christians did to the pagans. They stole their holidays and turned them into Christian holydays - Easter was stolen too. Bet you didn't know that, did you?

Now, if 94% celebrate christmas, but only between 75% and 85% of Americans claim to be Christian, then we can say that of those 94% that celebrate christmas, between 9% and 19% are not Christian. I for one, am one of those people who happens to celebrate christmas and is not Christian.

Ahh, Good point. but, you still celebrate Christmas, so it only stands to reason that you'd not be offended by someone wishing that your Christmas celebration is nice. By the way, statistics prove that of the 94%, only 63% claim to be Christian, and only about 11% of them are practicing the faith. Just an interesting little fact.

Well actually, Christmas originated back when Roman Catholicism was being founded. The romans were mostly pagan, and to encourage the people to convert, they converted some of the pagan holidays into Christian ones, so there'd be less of a change, and kept some pagan traditions, such as, I believe, the Christmas tree. Historians actually speculate that Jesus was born sometime in April.

Well, that's rather what we've turned it into. See, they took the old pagan ways and put a christian meaning in the mix. The Christmas tree is an evergreen, which represents Jesus giving us eternal life. Just as the tree doesn't die each winter, we won't die either. It's wood, so it could represent the cross, too.

I think people should be able to say what they want. If a person wants to say happy holidays, more power to them, but if they want to say merry christmas, let them. People shouldn't find that offensive in any way and some people think its not appropriate for Christians to say that because there are other Religion. Well I have to say, we have freedom of religion, and if somebody came up to me and said happy Hannaku(dont know how to spell it) It wouldn't bother me. I'd probably say Merry Christmas in return.
