I just finished watching the opening ceremonies and I've got to say it was pretty awesome. (I mean other than the guy flying over blocks of grass and the malfunction during the lighting of the torch.)

The entertainment was nice. I really like the light show. It was really different from the other olympic ceremonies I've seen.

Gonna get some discussion in here:
Which country do you think is going to get the most medals? Guesstimate the number.
Which athlete do you have high hopes for?
What sports are you particularly following?

My guesses are US or Russia for the most medals. I'm going to try to watch as much as I can but mostly I'll be watching the skating portion.

Photo and I watched the opening ceremony. We watched most of the countries' athletes enter the stadium(?) and most to all of the performances. I thought they were all right. Nothing really blew my mind but it was pretty.

As for athletes and other stuff, my bet is on Norway for most medals. I have no idea who is competing other than some snowboarders. And snowboarding is mostly all I care about. If I catch other parts, that's cool too, but I'm not really excited for anything else. Oh, and I hope Shaun White falls on his face.

User ImageNorway? More like snoreway! :p

Canada thinks they've got the edge as far as speed skating goes, but we'll see what the competition has to say about that. Apparently we've been doing tons of research with athletes getting them to train more effectively and efficiently. I'm curious to see the results :3

we already beat the crap out of someone in hockey
(of course, it was Slovakia, and their team is tiny, but still)

... I am envious of Japan's outfits, though. lots of gold goldy gold

I feel really bad for the Georgian team. That poor guy that got killed during the luge D:

Why did the Canadians design a bunch of unpadded steel supports along side the most dangerous part of the track?

User Imageto kill the competition?

But seriously, it's not like they could have seen it coming or anything. How are they to know what the most dangerous part of the track is?

the reason we couldn't change it is because we ran out of money for venues biggrin
(but then we had to truck in snow anyway)

i think we're putting nets up, tho
although that won't stop the g-forces, nothing will

I watched skiing, short track, and luge today. Two things: omgapolo, I did not see that coming, at all, it's a shame for the koreans though...

And skiing was epic; best. ending. ever.

@Heavens: Didn't White fall on his face awhile ago? It looked like it hurt...
@Belle: When do they play hockey? And I did not know you were Canadian. o.o
@Cherry: Do you see the memorial someone set up. It was really touching. "Just like gold, you're dreams will live forever."
@Heart: By testing it? It seems speed was also a factor (no one has gone over 90mph since the incident). So far in luge the 11th turn seems particularly hard.

xD Beru, Toastizzle and I are all Canadian. Beru and I are from BC specifically. Anywhars, I thought they did a pretty good job. Aside from the LOLCAULDRONPROBLEM. But yeah. The whole thing with the luge was sad. Although I'm pretty sure that it was intentionally made to be difficult in order to truly test their abilities. The whole money thing was a really big issue though, because we were running out and actually went pretty far over budget. I think that Canada could be a pretty good contender for Speed Skating 3000 this time around, what with having those 3 really good women.

Yes, Tootsie, he did. He smashed his face into the side of the superpipe at teh X-Games a few weeks ago, but he didn't get seriously hurt.

I love the Canadia Channel. They're all like "We think this Canadian guy is in the top running for this medal!" and in reality that's the guy who gets one of the last places.

I figured out that the Winter Olympics is all about style points.

I watched the opening ceremony, it was lovely, despite that one glitch. <3

That luge accident was just tragic, he was so young...
and toastie, I gigggled despite myself.

I watched the pairs figure skating short program tonight. Some of those were so pretty. (except for one canada pair. *cough*)

but other than that, I really haven't been watching the Olympics as much as I usually do. Busy weekend. >_>;
