Often times it has a lot to do with the person you are in a relationship with. And unless one person really doesn't like one or the other then you can usually play in different ways by switching roles to keep things exciting.

It's really a matter of personal preference. If you and your partner are the same role, you can compromise and switch roles, which offers variety and new excitement acting as something you're usually not.

It depends. Trying everything is good. It broadens your tastes, so you can say what you do and don't like.
My boyfriend and I, sorta swtich roles, depending on who was most forward during foreplay. It's unspoken, and mutual, and really works. We're lucky that way.
