D/P Gaming Guild Presents: 2010 GYM LEADER OPEN CHALLENGE Do you think your tough enough to join the ranks of the D/P Gaming's very own Wi-Fi League Gym Leaders! Best of luck to kirashimu, kp_anthony and Legend of the Tundra as they make their final push of the Open Challenge! Welcome to the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Gaming Guild's 2010 Gym Leader Open Challenge! Unlike the Gym Leader Tournaments hosted in the past, here at the Gym Leader Open Challenge, there will be only one winner and no grueling round-robin tournament to deal with. The rules are simple, bring your best Mono-type team and face-off against our seven (7) current gym leaders. The person(s) with the most wins at the end of the challenge will be crowned as the newest gym leader of this guild's very own Wi-Fi League! Remember, you will only be allowed to challenge each individual gym leader once with your mono-type team for this challenge, so as they say, "go big or go home". With all of that being said, if you'd like to try out for this gym leader selection challenge, be sure you read all the rules and just post your friend code on this thread and state which Elemental type you will be trying out for (select from the available types listed on the next post only, please). I wish the best of luck to all of those participating in the challenge and hope to see you all on the battlefield. Announcements
[Update 03/29/10] - Congratulations to Legend of the Tundra for also making it into the final round! The final 3 will be settled with a round-robin style tournament, the person with the most victories wins the title of D/P Gaming Gym Leader!
[Update 03/27/10] - With two days left in the challenge, kp_anthony has managed to tie our former go-ahead winner kirashimu and currently has a chance at forcing a deciding battle against him if no one else is able to match or beat their current records of two wins. The Open challenge is beginning to heat up, so everyone with matches that still need being fought, your time is quickly running out.
[Update 03/18/10] - Just a reminder to all the contestants that the Open Challenge closes at the end of March 28th (or March 29th, 2010; 12:00am [midnight] Central Standard Time to be exact) so if you want to be the next gym leader of D/P Gaming, you have until then to beat/tie the current benchmark score of 2 wins set by our current go-ahead winner, kirashimu. Best of luck to everyone still in contention and eagerly await to see you all on the battlefield.

RULES Theme: 7 Battles (1 per Gym Leader) As suggested, in order to win this challenge (win or lose) you must battle each of the current gym leaders once. The person with the most wins against the current gym leaders will be crowned as the newest Gym Leader of D/P Gaming. In the event of a tie, the players who tied (no matter the amount) will face-off against each other in a battle (best 2 out 3 matches), winner of battle(s) earning the title, Gym Leader of D/P Gaming! Battle Format: 6 v 6, Lv 50/100 Battle (Single)
You must only use Pokemon of a similar elemental type.
Due to special circumstances, new entrants into the challenge must only choose one of the following unclaimed types to tryout for: Water, Fighting, Ground, Fire, Electric, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon* and Ghost.
Only one non-uber legendary Pokemon may be used per team, per battle.
Update 09/04/09 * Due to the special circumstances that both Garchomp and Latias have been recently banned by our version of the Uber Clause, Dragon-type users are going to be allowed to use Pokemon from the Dragon egg group as well those actually of the Dragon-type. Those included on this addition are: Charizard, Arbok, Gyarados, Sceptile, Seviper and Milotic. General Rules If you used a cheating device like AR, CB, or GS to hack in fake Pokémon, max stats, etc. then please do not scam us and enter this tournament. This is only open to honest trainers with official teams. If you can't find shinnies and your friends hack them for you and trade them to you, don't enter. If you don't feel confident about your team, just don't enter. Play fair. Trust in your own abilities.
Please do not disconnect from the match and make up a bogus excuse to cover it up. Make sure you have a strong WiFi signal. If not, just don't enter.
Voice chat must be turned off.
Clauses in Effect Species Clause: All of your Pokémon must be different.
Sleep Clause: You can only put 1 of your opponent's Pokémon to sleep at a single time.
Self-KO Clause: Your Pokémon cannot use moves like Explosion or Self-Destruct to win if it's the only Pokémon remaining on your team. The same applies for Perish Song and Destiny Bond.
Uber Clause: The following Pokemon are deemed to be unbalancingly powerful and are not allowed to be used:
Update 08/25/09 Despite Smogon's decision to remove Latias from the Uber tier and place it into the OU tier, here at D/P Gaming, Latias will still be considered illegal to use and will be included as being banned by our version of the Uber Clause until further notice.
Evasion Clause: Moves like Double Team and Minimize are banned from being used.
Luck "Hax" Item Clause: When this clause is in effect, that means the following items are banned from use: Brightpowder, Quick Claw, Focus Band and King's Rock.
OHKO Clause: Moves like Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold are banned from use.

F.A.Q. Q: Can I be the gym leader of the gym?A: Yes! But only if you earn it by winning the most battles in this challenge. If you'd like to try out for a gym leader spot, be sure you read all the rules and just post your friend code on this thread and state which Elemental type you are trying out for. Q: What is a mono-type team?A: A mono-type team is a Pokemon team consisting of one similar type. A Mono-Fire type team would include the likes of Ninetails, Charizard, Infernape and Arcanine because they all share a single similiar type (ie-Fire).Q: How many leaders will be chosen from this challenge?A: As there are already 7 current gym leaders, only 1 will be chosen this time around out of all the entrants trying out to be a gym leader. This is not to be mean and exclude anybody, but to ensure that only the best obtain such a title of gym leader, we wish for them to be exceptional battlers.Q: Why is this challenge being hosted different from previous gym leader tournaments?A: As there is only one spot to fill, we felt it wasn't necessary to run another long dragged out round-robin style tournament and felt this to be the best and quickest way to get the gym leader hopefuls straight into the action of making a name for themselves and yet still filtering out only the most exceptional battlers for the title of gym leader. Q: Sounds cool! How do I enter this challenge?A: Simple enough, if you'd like to try out for this gym leader selection challenge, be sure you read all the rules (posted above) and just post your friend code on this thread and state which Elemental type you will be trying out for.Q: When may we begin battling gym leaders?A: As soon as your registration is accepted, you are welcome to challenge them immediately! You have a deadline to get in as many gym battles as you can, so it would be to your benefit to start challenging as early as possible.Q: What is our deadline to finish battling them?A: March 29th, 2010; 12:01am (midnight) Central Standard Time. Q: If a gym leader has a rule in their gym that requires you to battle thier apprentice, do we have to battle the apprentice first?A: No, this is a straight open challenge to take on the current gym leaders. Your welcome to take on their apprentices if you want, but such a battle isn't required and will have no effect to your standings here in the Open Challenge. As Cormini has already put it:Cormini Despite that rule, for those who are trying out for the 8th gym leader spot, they do not have to battle the apprentices just to face their gym leaders. They may do so if they would like to try and add insult to injury.

Nice idea for the final spot.
Zetshimaru half wants to ask if Zetshimaru can try just for the fun of it. But then Zetshimaru remembers last time, and now thinks that may not be the best idea.

Welcome aboard Yokubo and Martini.
@ Martini - If you choose Water-type, you can only use Water-types. Dual types such as Water/Ice Pokemon like Lapras are acceptable as they are partially Water, but Pokemon such as Glaceon who are not Water-types, may not be used with a Water-type team.
