She had yet to make up the homework assignments she had missed over the week. Serah would have ordinarily gone to find Khalla, her tutoring friend but even she seemed absent. or not so much absent-- more like, Serah couldn't locate her. It was a shame since Serah had enjoyed the girl's company more than other girls of her acquaintance in Crystal Academy. Unfortunately, she was the only smart girl in Serah's small circle of friends. And if she was gone.. that meant the next person on the list was the teacher.
She stepped into the classroom with a reluctant step, scanning the room for the young science teacher. She didn't like homework but she didn't like failing either. So that left her little choice but to 'resort to this.' She had her science textbook and composition in one hand, her bunny shoulder bag on her other side, brown eyes apprehensively landed on the teacher.

Suri was not fond of the fact that she had been relegated to afterschool tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Of course, she understood the logic behind it: the bottom of the totem pole always gets to do the dirty work, and she was the newest (as well as the youngest) teacher in the science department. However, it was also important to note that most of the other teachers in the science department had some sort of sympathy with the girls who fell behind. Suri just thought they were slackers.
Nevertheless, Ms. Ellis took the burden as an opportunity to show her betters exactly how well she could tutor the delinquents, and whether out of hard work or simply fear of the slim young woman, her pupils had already done surprisingly well. As it stood, she only had one appointment this week, a girl with attendance issues, and Suri was determined to see that the girl got every hour of class that she had missed. By school policy, Ms. Ellis was required to allow the girl to recover her grade, but by Suri's policy, she would work for it.
The lab assistant had been grading labs when the pink-haired girl entered the room, and looked up with a blank stare as she scrabbled a note on some poor student's paper in virulent red ink. "How can I help you?" Suri asked in a neutral tone, assuming this was her appointment but not personally recognizing the girl. She set down her current lab and reached for a folder marked "Recovery" in big, bold letters. It was a thick folder, and as Suri flipped to the first page, the tiny font and charts didn't look friendly.
Oh, yes. Poor Serah would work to regain time lost.

As soon as Serah caught sight of the strict teacher, combined with the overly large folder with small font, she had a sinking feeling that this wouldn't work out. She reaaaaaaalllly wished that Khalla was here. Serandite wasn't prone to using crude words but in this case, it seemed fairly appropriate.
Oshit.
She made a direct U-turn with an obvious intent of heading out of the classroom, the feeling of dread emitted from that folder radiated in waves. She didn't intend to stay to see what was in that overly large folder because whatever was in it wasn't going to be pretty.
"Yeah-- uh. Wrong classroom. I'm out of here now. See ya." She said with dogged intent, giving a small wave towards the sour-looking teacher, acting -- or trying to act casual. She gripped her bunny bag, telling herself she would make it up some other time with a different teacher.

Normally, Suri would have just let the girl go: if she wanted to fail that semester, it was her own prerogative, and none of Suri's concern. In fact, the woman had enough on her plate as it was, and if it meant she had fewer labs to grade, then it was no skin off her back. But the fact of the matter was that the school had charged Ms. Ellis with a mission, and if they were going to make her stay after school, then she was going to make the pink-haired brat stay, as well.
"Serah Eos?" Suri read out from the front of the folder, standing as she looked at the girl. "This is the right classroom, if you've come for the science make-up, and this is the only time I'm doing grade recovery." Ms. Ellis made sure to put a slight emphasis on 'only' as she rose from her seat, straightening her lab coat. "Unless you'd like me to report to the administration that you're not interested in grade recovery, I suggest you at least sit down for a moment."
There was always the chance that the girl in question wasn't her pupil, and she was putting on a bravado in vain. Then again, it seemed suspicious that the girl would take one look and want to run. Suri hadn't developed that much of a relationship yet...had she? The woman internally shrugged: if she hadn't yet, then she was about to set the tone for the rest of the semester.

Serah wanted to groan on the inside. She sat down in a desk in front of the teacher, a resigned sigh leaving her. If this was the only time for grade recoveries, she didn't have too much of a choice. Actually, she didn't have a choice at all. She laid her bag and other items down, armed with only a pencil and eraser to continue this tedious battle of schoolwork.
"Yes.. I'm Serah. So much for that escaping plan." Oh how she wished she wasn't at the moment. Perhaps if she missed less school.. she wouldn't be in this situation. But it was because of blasted Kunzite that set her out of school for a good while, not wishing to explain to the school why both of her eyes had been the color of spoiled grapes. But that was an irrelevant topic considering that it was Serah's fault for not making it up earlier, or dropping by school to get get work.
"What do I have to make up, Miss .. Ellis?" She took a moment to stare at the name tag, obviously preparing herself to take the brunt of the work.

Subservience. Suri approved of it, and smiled smugly with a nod of her head as the girl sat down, turning back to her own desk to retrieve the recovery folder, sliding it in front of Serah with the first page open.
"The school informed me of your unique situation, so I've compiled all of the worksheets from the four labs you've missed this semester, along with all of the required reading materials and a sheet with links to online resources for added help." Suri ran her fingers over five marked tabs, each labeled 'Lab 3', 'Lab 4', 'Lab 5', 'Lab 6', and 'Other/Misc'. "Given that the labs were designed to be done by two people, I can't require that you actually perform them, so you have two options as to the lab reports you're missing: you can either do the experiment on your own after school, or write a 500 word research paper on the topic of the lab, including the pre-lab worksheets."
With a nod, Ms. Ellis turned to the back tab, the one marked 'Other'. "You missed the day we discussed quarterly reports, so all of the worksheets associated with that are back here. These won't be due for another few weeks, but it's a project you should be working on all semester and something to take note of, should you have any more absences." Having shown her the main points of the folder, Suri straightened her posture, looking down at the delinquent child. "In order to get the grades in by the end of the grading period, I'll need to have this work in within the next two weeks, meaning the Friday after next, which is why it is recommended you take a few days after school to dedicate to this packet. It's quite a bit of work."
Suri returned to her seat, then picked up another lab and began to grade again. "Take a look over the sheets, and let me know if you have any immediate questions before you get to work."
((OOC--I wasn't sure if Serah was enrolled in the Chemistry Lab or the Physics Lab, but if you let me know I can generate some generic topics she has to look up. <33))
