Cassius enjoyed walking along the city streets at dusk. He liked how the air always felt cooler and that most people were heading home at that point. He wasn't a crowds person by any means and he hated people clutter. Unless all of the people were there to see him, he wasn't interested in them. It was always that simple.
He supposed it was time to start looking for dinner but he wasn't sure what sounded good. Unlike most people dinner wasn't waiting for him when he returned to his home. He either had to plan and cook something for himself or pay for it somewhere else. It had been years since he and his father shared a meal together anywhere. Cassius planned to never change that known fact and was thankful to either eat meals alone or with friends.
He yawned slightly as he walked by numerous restaurants. Nothing was appealing to him at this moment and it was frustrating. Usually his stomach made the decisions for him but today was proving to be difficult. The hilarious part was Cassius hadn't done anything ALL day (as usual). Dinner seemed more like a problem rather then something enjoyable. But really, he was just being sort of bratty.
He felt himself stop suddenly in front of a familiar diner. It was one he had gone to with friends and it had awesome milkshakes if he remembered correctly. He made his way inside and let the cute hostess seat him at a table in front. Fries and a milkshake sounded sufficient enough as his dinner plans. He really was doing great at this 'taking care of himself', thing...

Today had been a very sloppy day for Howl. Normally he would wear a lovely casual suit as he spent his minimal free time wisely away from Hillworth. However, today's weather was the sort where he liked to bundle up in his favorite pale blue sweater and wrap a simple, but fetching white scarf about his neck to prevent any chills. Though his form was somewhat lost in the bulk of the sweater, Howl was still as lovely as ever.
Normally he was the sort who could wait until he got back to school to eat, but after today's lunch special of mystery meat, he felt that he did not want to gamble with the chance of having two bad meals in a row. Howl's main dilemma was finding some sort of restaurant or fast food facility that had healthy alternatives. Grease was the bane of the teal-haired lad's existence. It was in nearly all food at the fast food chains, and even a lot of the dinners used a decent amount to make their food "delicious." Fortunately, Franz had been kind enough when Howl had first arrived at Hillworth to outline several restaurants, dinners, and fast food places which served sufficient salads for his delicate stomach.
Howl casually glanced towards his left wrist, eyes glazing over the face of the watch resting there. Fortunately, he still had plenty of time before needing to return to school. For a moment, he had to pause in step to take a look about, as if trying to remember where one of the Franz-approved restaurants was located, rubbing his hands together in an attempt to keep warm.
If I remember correctly, there should be a dinner around the corner, he mused before resuming in step. Casually, he slipped into the building and instantly rubbed his well-maintained hands together. The beautiful teal-haired figure couldn't help but notice that the hostess was busy seating another couple down, meaning that for perhaps 2 or so minutes, he would be left standing there. Patiently and quietly, he stood there, waiting to gain the hostess' attention.
It probably would have looked as if a teal haired young lady was waiting to be seated, and his sweater was not helping the situation at all, masking his body's true shape.

Of course Cassius noticed a figure walk into the diner. The hair most definitely caught his attention. It was so green and luscious, oh, green was most definitely his favorite color. Money was that color and money was perfect. Now, what he couldn't see was if this 'person' was good looking. The face was hidden and he continued to stare with interest. It wasn't like Cassius to remain so quiet in such a situation. He was always the first to speak or do something obnoxious, partially because it usually meant getting his way. So without hesitation, he spoke up since he was discomforted with the lack of control in this situation.
"Hey, hey you over there. I think you dropped something on the ground." Hopefully that would get the figure's attention. Cassius was such a brat. But anyone with green hair was interesting and he had to figure the face out and see it for himself. If it was a girl, well, wouldn't he be lucky. But if it was a guy he wasn't sure what'd he do. He supposed it was natural for him to notice someone else with fabulous hair. Was hair a bonding activity? Hm. It seemed more like a rival sort of thing.
But really, what the hell was wrong with him? Did he need more hobbies that weren't so self obsessed? Yeah no. If he was entertained then he was happy. And right now he was happy meddling into someone else's life.
Cassius sat back in his chair while waiting on the mysterious green hair verdict. He was relieved to see his milkshake arrive so that was somewhat distracting to the situation. Once he took his first gulp he was back to staring and waiting.

Howl could not have dropped anything. At least, he was certain such was the case. His wallet was still firmly in his back pocket, and at the moment it was the only thing he had on his person. However, the effeminate lad's attention had been snatched up. He glanced over to the golden-haired boy at a nearby table and raised a brow at him in question. Unfortunately, even with a good view of the teal-haired boy's face, it probably did not help with verifying his gender one way or another.
With just a look, he asked without words "Were you speaking to me, sir?" If there was one thing that Howl noticed quite easily was this young man had extremely well kept hair. It was always an admirable thing to find another male with lovely hair such as his own.

Cassius ruled in that the green haired figure was a dude. A small glance was all he needed to confirm this realization. "Ugggh, really?" of course that came out of his mouth as well, and he rolled his eyes ever so elegantly. But even so, Cassius was curious. And when Cassius got curious, Cassius acted upon his intentions. He pretty much agreed that he'd never seen a guy with hair so well put together, excluding himself. He was a whole different category, obviously.
The blonde tapped his finger to his chin and realized he hadn't spoken to another guy in weeks. He preferred spending time with his female counterparts, and somehow neglected to hang out with other dudes along the way. Plus, how bad could this green haired guy be? Anyone who cared about personal appearance and was male had to be somewhat similar to him. He couldn't begin to count how many disgusting guys roamed alongside him in class and such. The 'scruffy' look was not something that Cassius appreciated.
Well, there was one way to go about awkwardly bothering someone. And Cassius knew exactly what to do. He rose from his seat and made his way over to the other guy, putting his hands in his pockets once he approached the figure.
"Do I happen to know you from somewhere? You look awfully familiar." He grinned as he spoke and tilted his head as if acting dumbfounded. The 'blonde' thing always made him look legit.

Whoever this lad was, he was staring something awful at Howl. Unfortunately, this was a very common reaction, and in all honesty, he was very adjusted to such. His teal eyes gently gazed back, watching the young man carefully. The chin tapping was an outward sign that the golden haired fellow was thinking something over. And to make matters worse, the young man approached him.
If there was still any doubt to his gender, the one tell-tale sign that Howl was indeed male soon enough vocalized itself as he responded to the question. His voice was definitely male, and had an extremely elegant English accent to it.
"I suspect you are mistaken, sir. I have only taken residence in this city for a few months now, and I am quite certain I have never met you before. I have a very good memory for faces."
With the slight explanation out of the way, Howl extended his right hand for an introductory handshake. "My name is Howl Wickham, sir. Now you may say you know me from somewhere and have a name to go with the face." There was a slight pause as he flashed a smile of his own. "Might I ask your name?"

It was safe to say that Cassius was expecting Howl to growl back at him or something. It seemed that every female he had run in to gave him that same reaction with no courtesy or manners. Cassius was starting to wonder just how sketchy he looked in comparison to everyone else. But alas- a gentleman. There were very few of those around these days. Cassius lightened up at the introduction and hand that came forward so politely. "My name is Cassius James, I am sorry for my mistake. But it is a pleasure to met you all the same." He could totally be courteous back.
Although Cassius had his 'own' ways of socialization, what he was about to do next was not out of the ordinary for him. "Are you meeting someone here? If not you are welcome to join me at my table. It's not often that I meet someone as unique as yourself." Cassius saw the world in two ways- if he was denied a opportunity then fine, he'd forget about this Howl Wickham and go bother someone else. Or, if Howl wanted some company and agreed to chatting, Cassius could inquire about his personal tastes and potentially learn a new thing or too. The world was just that easy to play along in.
Also, technically Cassius was supposed to have more guy friends then gal friends, but that wasn't going so well. So it was time for him to branch out and meet some new lads. It was always better to find some potential dinner company too. "And no need to call me sir Howl- I am nothing of that sort." Thank goodness for that.

"I will call you 'Mr. James' then." Howl could not move away from formal titles. The only person he could call something so informal as their own name was Franz. However, that was just Franz for you. It felt awkward to call him anything other than Franz.
He nodded his head gently, as if to confirm this label, then he moved onward to answer the question. "I am stopping here before an appointment that I must keep." That appointment being called "the Hillworth curfew."
"However, I would not mind accompanying you at your table. I just warn you that I will be leaving quickly after I finish my meal." Not wanting to come across as presumptuous, he waited for the blonde lad to start leading the way back to his table. One of his fingers did drift up to one of his long dangling earrings and smoothed over the gemstone. It was a horrible habit of his, and it was much more evident when he was out as a civilian rather than as a Hillworth student. He couldn't play with gemstones hanging from his ears if they were not present.

"I won't keep you too long, I was just tempted to meet someone new." He quickly lead Howl to his table and sat in front of his trusty milkshake. Hopefully his fries would be arriving soon. He looked for the waitress so that Howl could order something for himself as well before returning to his appointment. He'd hate to make him late. "Thanks for joining me, Howl."
He took another gulp of his shake through his straw and allowed his eyes to survey Howl up close. He was very well put together overall and had a confident demeanor to him. "I pretty much have this habit of always saying what I think," he first stated while shrugging lightly, "so I must comment. You also have very long and nice green hair. Its rare for me to encounter another guy with such a trait. You must have lots of girls chasing after you." From Cassius' own experience long hair was an easy target of attraction for all of the females. It was awkward though when girls were jealous of his own locks, and it had definitely happened before multiple times.
"So what kinds of activities do you enjoy doing after school, Howl?" Maybe he could get some ideas for some new hobbies for himself. The hard part would be Cassius motivating himself to do something other then gambling. Even if it seemed impossible, Cassius was interested to hear what another guy did to keep himself busy around this place. There had to be reasonable things to do to stay active.

"It is no problem, Mr. James. I rather enjoy meeting new people also." The elegant lad pulled out the chair without a sound and sat himself down. He carefully tucked his chair back in, making certain to not make that annoying scraping sound when the chair ground into the floor. Once he was settled in, he turned to face Cassius with a pleasant smile upon his lips. It was rather obvious that Howl was a very prim and proper young man, based solely upon his posture even while sitting.
Teal eyes casually watched the blonde's eyes as he attentively listened to the lad talk. It was intriguing that he was so open to speaking of his own flaws. Howl was quite the opposite when it came to his real flaws. When there was a long enough pause for him to pick up on the conversation, his voice swept in to answer. "I prefer to call it teal or turquoise. There is a slight hint of blue to it. As strange as it sounds, it is actually a family hair color. Usually found in the males of the Wickham line." He paused to laugh politely before continuing on. "I do enjoy the company of a lovely young lady, but I find many girls are very wary of my appearance." It was one thing to have lovely hair. It was another thing to have a face lovelier than the girl's.
For a moment, he paused to catch the question directed towards him, but the pause lasted a bit longer when the waitress made her way over. He quickly and politely ordered the House Salad, then waited for the girl to leave before actually attempting to supply Cassius with a sufficient answer.
"I am a fencer, so I spend much of my time at practice. Aside from that, my hobbies are not very exciting. I do some writing and practice calligraphy each day." He held back on mentioning his love of gardening, partially because he had not been able to do such an activity of late, but also since it was commonly seen as a "girly" past time.
Only to be polite, he bounced the conversational ball back towards his current companion. "What sorts of activities do you partake in after classes, Mr. James?"

Cassius wanted laugh since 'Mr. James' just sounded so weird. He was not used to being called anything close to proper. He supposed he should cherish it while it lasted? It definitely made Cassius seem like he was more important then he was for the time being. Plus it was a much better nickname then most of his others. "My apologies, you're hair is most definitely teal now that I look at it." When Howl spoke of how it was a male trait in his family Cassius considered that detail pretty cool. He only knew that his blonde hair came from his mother. It would have been cool to do some research on anyone else he was related to since most people actual knew about these details.
"Girls are wary of your appearance?" Cassius raised a brow and shook his head with a sigh. "That's just because they get jealous easily. I find that making the girl feel beautiful distracts them from being insecure. But that only works for so long." Girls were so easily riled up about their insecurities and to Cassius it was seriously ridiculous. "Girls believe they need to have better hair then a guy, but that is obviously not always the case. They aren't good at accepting that." Silly creatures they were.
He listened quietly as Howl explained his extracurricular activities. He must have been very athletic to be a fencer. Cassius was also getting the idea that Howl was an intelligent guy who did well in everything he sought out. He was most definitely a hard worker who grew up in a great family. That must have been a nice way to live.
"Well, I sometimes go to class but rarely enjoy it." he then admitted, while watching his fries arrive in front of him. He was starting to get hungry so thank goodness he had something to munch on. "I usual spend my time hanging out with friends, and then after we are done entertaining each other I get myself ready for various late night activities. Oh, and I really like sleeping. I could sleep all day." Yep. In comparison, he was such and idiot compared to most people. But Cassius wouldn't change his lifestyle for the world. "I just like to find things to do to keep myself busy." Even if they weren't always good ideas or legal for that matter.

Howl nodded at a few of Cassius' points about female kind, finding that several points were very truthful. "I do find young ladies can get hurt over the slightest things. I do try to place a tasteful compliment every so often, but the reactions are so varied." There was always at least one trait to a girl he could focus in on and make pleasant comments about. Eye color, hair color, conversational skills, a general loveliness were all factors he tended to consider.
"To be quite honest, I have to say there is nothing more rewarding that making a lovely young lady blush." It was rare for him to get the chance to speak to another young man without the usual "school hot chick" name haunting him. And then there was Franz, but Franz had Janice. Franz would listen, because he was considerate like that, but it was not quite the same.
He hushed to listen to the blonde's activities, and though he found several of the activities to be rather distasteful at best, he let none of this show upon his face. Howl was very talented at keeping neutral or pleasant expressions upon his face to hide his own emotions. The only thing that seemed to stir up a reaction in the teal-haired lad was the presence of the fries. His pierced nose sniffed slightly, almost twitching at the awful smell of grease. Half of taste was based off smell, and now he was partially wondering if his salad would taste of french fry grease. In a hope of distracting his nose, he took a small sip of his complementary water. He was raised to not drink much before a meal so that he could have more room for the meal itself. Father had always insisted upon drinking the beverage after eating.
When he pulled his lips away from his straw, he nodded his head to acknowledge he had heard all of his activities. "I have a rather early curfew, so I am unable to partake in any 'late night activities,' as you call them." It didn't stop most Hillworth students from sneaking out. Franz had done this before, and the next morning the remains of a fire had been discovered in the front of the school.

The 'reactions were varied' was absolutely correct. Even if guys tried to say something kind, it often resulted in a slap in the face somehow. There were times when there was no possible way to win over a girl's satisfaction. Ah well. Cassius supposed that made girls fun and always sort of a challenge. "I'll agree with you on that- girls look adorable when blushing. It's a shame they aren't blushing all of the time." Since.. most of them would look better that way. "So are you a girlfriend type of guy or rather enjoy keeping your many options open?" Cassius was trying sort of hard to behave at this moment and time- and there were many other ways he could have asked that question. It felt more appropriate to try and act as politely as Howl was. Even if it was sort of hard.
Ah, curfews. He had heard that word before. He wondered how much different his life might of been had he followed one. To put it frank, Cassius had never been grounded a day in his life. He always wondered what it felt like, and had a sort of jealousy about it. If his father gave just a small damn about his son then maybe Cassius would be a better person and actually have his stuff together.
Well, there was no reason to mentally dwell on that all for too long. Eighteen years of living a certain way wasn't going to change overnight. Even if half of Cassius might have considered change, the other half would have smacked him for acting upon it.
"Sometimes I just feel more comfortable at night." He would have offered Howl a french fry or two but judging by the fellow's reaction, he was not interested in eating any. "I seem to get more done in the nighttime anyways." He grinned at Howl before sneaking a few french fries into his own mouth. "We all have our habits and perks to life I suppose." And so far he was enjoying learning about someone who did things more normally for a change.
"Do you have any siblings, Howl?" Although, from the sounds of things, even if Howl had a gorgeous sister, she wouldn't have carried that teal hair trait. That was a bummer.

His fingers laced together and folded up to rest on the edge of the table, as if he was at some sort of formal meeting. He laughed at the notion of a girl blushing all the time and slipped in a simple "If they were blushing all the time, then I suspect blushing would lose that charm it had." Too much of a good thing, no matter how adorable, made people lose their appreciation for it.
The one thing that was nice about this conversation was that he could be quite honest. When with a girl, there were things he had to carefully word to ensure that girls did not get the wrong idea about him. A young man, like Cassius, would understand the truths of another male mind. "I would like to consider myself the girlfriend type, however, I am rather selective about who I pursue actively. Mother had always told me I was a very finicky child when growing up." There was a pause. "However, I like to treat each young lady I meet as if they are special to me."
About this time, the waitress returned with Howl's salad. Salads were not exactly very difficult to put together, so it made plenty of sense as to why it appeared so quickly. His lips curled into a smile as he thanked the young lady for her efforts, and then he turned back to Cassius. Had the young man made a lewd reference? If it had been Elzo, he would not have doubted it. Yet, Cassius was a new person, so it was difficult to read his comments and their true intentions. It would require more observation time with the blonde to truly decipher the meaning.
"I am a single child. Both of my parents were satisfied with a single child, and they have never voiced any sort of regret in that decision." He nodded his head before picking up a fork, allowing the utensil to hover for a moment over the green leaves in his bowl. "And you, Mr. James? Any sort of siblings to look up to, or to protect?" He kept his eyes politely facing the other lad as he then stabbed the fork gently into a small pile of vegetables.

Cassius listened contently as Howl answered his questions. He somewhat expected that Howl was the girlfriend type- since any guy who was that polite and gentlemanly deserved a girl equally wonderful. Cassius was also relieved to hear that Howl was somewhat picky, since that meant he had good taste in women and wouldn't get pushed around. "Do you have a girlfriend now? I hope I'm not keeping you from them or something." Cassius chuckled as if throwing a silly joke out there. Sure, it might have been strange for two guys to meet over dinner, but at least it was a diner with some greasy food. That was masculine and stuff.
Cassius watched as Howl's salad appeared. It actually looked kind of tasty. "Man, you are such a healthy eater." Perhaps Cassius should order a salad every once in awhile. He really didn't like them when he ate them, but it'd probably give him more energy compared to all the other crap he ate. "Do you usually choose healthier foods in general?" Cassius was watching Howl with a usual attentive look. "When I cook I try to make healthier meats and tofu with vegetables, but whenever I go out I seem to disregard my better habits."
Somehow in the middle of their discussion, Cassius finished his fries but was equally surprised to hear Howl's next statement. Howl was an only child? Well goodness, so was he. Cassius wasn't sure why he assumed Howl had siblings. Maybe it was his good social manners and talk of his family that made Cassius think otherwise. Cassius was so oddly raised as an only child that he thought other only children would be easy to read and screwed up themselves. Cassius would be the first to admit to being wrong in this situation.
"No, I am an only child too. I think it would have been really nice to have siblings in truth but I get along with it just fine." Well, that wasn't completely true, but he was trying his best. He would have liked to have sisters or a younger brother to protect. Ah well, at least he had friends to bother when he needed attention.
