But only family could. If any other did, Naiad would take it to heart. Funny how something could switch between endearment and insult by the switch of simple details like who said it, tone, context. The sunny pup, tomboyish as she was, still had her sensitive side after all. Thanks to Urban's interference recently, she was on higher alert, blue eyes narrowed against the horizon line as she waded near the river. Water always calmed her down.
Who cared what some stupid boy said anyway, right? He didn't even know her! And her loving family had soothed her hurt ego quickly enough. So Naiad decided to stick that incident behind her and get to work: that is, chatting it up with the local fish population. The water was pretty cold, and a violent shiver went up the little one's spine as she waded further and further into the river; yet the numbing cold was its own soothing balm to her, and she revelled in the burst of energy that hit her as her body fought off the icy temperature. She might not be a fisher like her family would like her to be, but that affinity for water had certainly passed on.
"Hey, guys, how're you?" she engaged some minnow who quickly darted away. "Still swift? Good, good, those wolves'll have problems catching ya." She grinned down at them, but only her reflection grinned back.

The bright female shook herself slightly and she pushed her way through the high grass, she could hear the swift rushing of water ahead and it had been a while since she had drank truly fresh running water. Her pink tongue peaked out to lick her dry, gray nose. Her pale green eyes intent in watching ahead of her, ears pricked forward, following the sound. Bouncing against her chest a locket witha deep blue-black stone set into the silver metal, and the faint tinkling sound of the small amethyst stones of her circlet bouncing against the thin chain on platinum over her brow, silver anklets clinging to her forepaws snugly.
With the smell of the water and grass the scent of the small brightly colored female was swept away, invisible to the older femme. But her voice drifted up from the water, making Asharadine tilt her head. A voice, no, she wasn't one to hear voices; though stranger things had happened to her since she had been separated from her mate. The mere momentary thought tore at her eye making her avert her eyes for a split second, but it was that lapse of time in which Asha lost her sense of the world that made her downfall; literally.
With a scrabbling of paws, Asharadine's front paws went over the end of a small steep embankment opposite of the shore in which the bright pup stood talking to the watery inhabitants. A great splash of icy water and the femme scrambled backwards onto the shoreline with a loud yelp, soaking wet and cold she sat shivering her pale eyes wide with shock, cursing herself mentally for having forgotten to watch where her paws were going.

"Cunning little slivers, aren't you . . . You're lucky I'm not in the mood for a good swimming chase!" Naiad joked with the fish that could not, of course, hear her. A splash broke through the conversation, however, and immediately the pup turned her head to the sound, stiff as wood. She heard no familiar voice, smelled no pack member; intruders? "Who's there?" the pup barked with more authority than her age ought to have, the snow making it hard to spy the pale figure who had brushed against the lip of the river. It almost hurt to look at her, like staring at snow in the sunlight for too long.
Such funny adornments were wrapped about her head and paws, and that funny stone that glinted in the light - had she been near humans? "Hey! Careful, the water's freezing this time of year," Naiad stated - oblivious to the obviousness - as she waded out of the water and shook herself clean. In the least she had acquired in her genes the water-proof fur of her father, though her tiny body shivered somewhat nonetheless. She viewed the almost white wolf suspiciously. "Who're you? This is Akiiki Chibale lands you're about to step into."

The pale female stood and shook herself violently, pushing away the water that accumulated in her fur. She was lucky she had a thicker coat than most of these southern wolves being far from the north herself. Her pale eyes blinked at the little yellow pup who called out to her, a cute little thing the color a buttercup flower with strange pale gray markings.
"I don't mean any harm," Asha chuckled softly, relaxing a little. She tensed for an moment hearing she was on the border of pack lands, but that could easily be a good thing for her. Maybe Raco was with them, she could hope at least after having finally escaped the obsessive paws of that white menace Ronin. "My name is Asharadine." she spoke softly tilting her head at the little pup. "The water doesn't me nearly as much, it doesn't soak through luckily." she smiled looking up and passed the pup, wondering how far the rest of her pack was from where they stood, curiosity gnawing at her mind.
"Akiiki Chibale..." she tested the words on her tongue curiously. "I promise you that I mean no harm, I am merely a passerby in search of someone very dear to me." she said shaking her head, making her locket wriggle and glint in the pale winter sunlight.

Hmm . . . maybe she wasn't a very smart strange to give out her name like that so easily. Well if she wasn't smart, well, Naiad didn't feel as intimidated; guess being older didn't neccessarily mean you knew more! "Well, for your information, I'm Naiad Sunbird Sunprincess, guardian of this river," she announced with a confidently raised head, "and I know the alpha, so you better watch out, Asharadine. But if you're nice, then I won't have to force you out." The items she wore were more than intriguing . . . Were they heavy? The pup stepped closer, curious and without fear. After all, spelling out the risks were more than enough, yes?
"So I'll hold your word for right now. What sort of someone very dear to you are you looking for?" Naiad asked. "Last I saw, there was this mean blue or teal or whatever boy and this serious looking red girl and a funny-talking whitish wolf."

Asharadine sneezed faintly with laughter at the little, bold pup. "It is very nice to meet you Naiad." she giggled and smiled at the little one. She couldn't help herself seeing the furious fire that seemed to burn inside the little one, reminding her a lot of herself as a pup, play fighting with her brothers Joshua and Sonyu. "Oh I don't believe there will be any need to chase me off." she said shaking her head again and smiling. The little one, truly was bold, but she liked that a strong personality to match the bright colors of her pelt.
She noticed Naiad eying her locket and smiled. "My mate gave it too me, he stole it from the two-leggers." she said looking down at the dark stone and the pale metal that held it. "It's very precious to me."
Tilting her head at the pup she shook her head. None of the mentioned wolves were her mate and she knew it, but a whitish wolf with who spoke oddly? It sounded almost like either of her brothers, but she doubted the possibility of it. "My mate, Raco is who I am looking for. He's all black with a blue and a green eye and a pale white marking on his neck." she closed her eyes thinking lovingly of her mate, his large stature looming over her, protecting her at all times. "But tell me about this funny talking white wolf. What did he look like?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"What did he look like? Hmm . . ." Naiad's face screwed up in thought. "He was a blinding white with fire that danced at his paws and tail that looked almost alive. and he had a lot of things on him too, a mask, some sort of human object that looked like a thin, bent wing, feathers . . . All sorts of stuff. And he gave me a name that was weird too, with a K . . ." She closed her eyes in thought for a moment, then opened them with revelation. "Right! Kazemaru was his name. He talked about killing the mean guy way too easily for me to like him. But he called me Sunprincess and said I was beautiful, so I dunno . . . Is that the one you're looking for?" But she looked too nice to know some weirdo like that male! Ayeli's words about Kazemaru echoed about in her little head, how he spoke in nothing but lies . . . Hopefully that didn't mean his compliment was actually an insult!

Asha blinked slightly at the description of the odd wolf, certainly nothing like any of her brothers and she shook her head slowly at first then a little faster before stopping herself, her mind still piecing together the strange description. "No, I have no idea who he might me." she said, closing her eyes again pulling up the image of her beloved in her mind, her tail faintly beginning to wag, leaving an indent in the snow, the sound of the water pulling up old memories of the stream that ran through he old territory that now lay nearly barren.
"He's pure black as a starless night, with a blue eye and green eye, there a marking like swirling pale smoke on his neck, and a strange pale marking like some of the markings I've seen humans make above his one eye. And he has an accent..." she said slowly, trying to pull his words into her mouth, licking her nose. " 'E, talk like dis, most of de time." she said carefully, trying to replicate Raco's way of speech. At first meeting the male she remembered giggling at the way he spoke and had learned to love it. "I miss him so dearly." she sighed opening her eyes again and looking down at the pup with a sad smile.

It was good that Asharadine had repeated the description again, for the pup's attention span had missed it completely in her memory search about the wolf called Kazemaru. Knowing the details, she again racked her brains for a wolf that might fit the description, but after a short while Naiad had to shake her head. "Can't say I've seen anyone like that. Sorry, Miss Asharadine," she told her with an apologetic expression. The adult seemed stricken by this loss, it even touched her to watch. "But if I see him, I'll let him know you're looking for him. What's his name again?" It didn't sound like he'd be a hard wolf to miss if he ever did come by Akiiki lands. "And, um . . . Did he also give you those other stuff you're wearing?" Naiad had to pin on, stricken with an urge to touch and examine the objects.

It was no surprised that the little pup had not seen her mate. She was young still and probably would have paid little attention to a passing wolf, though at the same time, a passing lone would grab the attention of a pup but likely not be a lasting memory with so many other things to take their attention like play fighting and mock hunting.
"It is perfectly fine. I ask anyone i come across if they have seen him. We were separated in a large fire. I don't even really know if he's alive. Though I feel in my heart that he is." she looked off again her eyes glazing over for a moment. The recalled memory of the flames overwhelming them the trees cracking and snapping with the heat, sparking out and singing their fur, until the awful sound that ruined their lives, a thunderous crack and boom and the sight of the old tall tree engulfed in flames falling straight towards the two of them. They had leapt in opposite directions and the tree with its immense size had cut them off from each other.
Asha was pulled out of her horrific revelry with the pups questions. "Raco...his name is Raco." she said softly and smiled at the pup and chuckled lightly as Naiad asked about her other adornments. "No, just the neck chain. My father gave me the chain and stones on my head and I don't actually remember how I got these around my paws." she said shifting her paws and looking at the thick silvery cuffs. She had long stopped questioning how they had gotten there, all she knew if that they weren't coming off.

"Hey, hey, heyheyheyhey!"
A voice cried out sharply as a blue and gold figure made it's way towards the water with big, clumsy feet. Yep, the ungraceful mite was at it again. Cascade was still just as horrible at fishing as she had been days ago and she hoped to improve before anyone else saw...
But this was infinitely more interesting, but didn't Naiad know that wolves killed pups like them? Her little heart fluttered with worry, but she put on the bravest face possible and her little tail stood high and her fur bristled. She was struggling to look as superior as possible, although she wasn't even half the size of this intruder.
"Naiad, who's dis? Mmmm?" She slowed to a trot only once she was nearest to her sister.

"Raco . . . I'll remember, Miss Asharadine," Naiad promised with a nod. The very idea of losing someone so close to her was incomprehensible; she commended the femme for keeping up her search so dilligently! A loud and familiar voice barked behin them, and she looked over her head to see her sister lope over with . . . some grace. Naiad winced a bit. "Oy, Cas, careful! Don't want you falling into the river again, I'm chatting with a guest! Her name's Asharadine!" She gave a small sigh and turned back to pale wolf. "That's my sis Cascade. We have two others, but they're a lot older than us. So, that stuff looks like it's human made. Pretty shiny. Do others try to steal from ya?"

A smile spread of over the femme's maw and she nodded. "I thank you. It is nice to know that It is possible to find those who will help a stranger out." but her attention was drawn over the head of the little yellow pup to a blue and yellow with similar markings. Siblings for sure, and she was only proved right when Naiad mentioned that the other was her own sister.
"Ah family, I have one sister, but she is much, much older than myself." she chuckled thinking of her flamboyant sister. Shuffling her paws slightly she watched Cascade approach. "Hello there." she said brightly with a welcome wag of her tail. Seeing the pups is made her long even more for her absent mate, they had wanted pups so badly but had never had luck in conceiving.
Her attention was drawn back to her jewelry as the pup questioned about them. "Yes, it is made by them, they are particular treasures on mine. But, no, I've never had anyone attempt to steal them from me." she shook her head and leaned forward slightly. "You aren't going to try to steal them from me, are you?" she winked at Naiad and sat back up with a smile still spread over her face.

"I ain't gonna fall in the river, Naiaaaaad!" Her response sounded a bit bruised as she sidled up beside her sister, tail wagging as she studied the stranger. The bits of jewelry caught her attention and she was infinitely curious. Yet at the same time, she still felt a little apprehension, as this was a complete stranger, after all.
"I ain't gonna steal it from ya! I don't wanna get eated, after all! D'you eat pups what steal from ya?"

Naiad made a face. The very thought! "Of course I wouldn't steal anything that isn't mine first," she stated plainly, sounding so blunt that she might have been mistaken to be acting pompous. "My family taught me to be way better than any ol' thief, Miss Asharadine, and no way would Akiiki Chibale let me live with it if I ever did." It was a do-gooder pack through and through, and by golly this pup was proud of it!
She looked to Cascade as she bounded over, sighing and nuzzling her slightly in greeting. "Cas, wolves don't eat wolves. That's just wrong. I mean, birds don't eat birds and squirrels don't eat other squirrels, and we're tons smarter than the other animals. Did you hit your head or something?" It wasn't said cruelly, just with the resigned sigh of a sister who was overprotective and made no efforts to hide it.
