It was another patrol, and another night where Wolframite was finding it hard to be hopeful. As of late, he had very few victories against the annoying-as-hell senshi, and even less with starseeds. His cheek was starting to finally heal where Libra’s scales sliced them, and now he only had a nice red mark instead of a bulky bandage, and his nose no longer felt sore. His legs however still hurt like nobody’s business from where Regulus tore them with his Claw attack, but with the magic that was the Negaverse uniform, his clothes were pristine and unmarked. He wished his body fixed itself that fast.

Despite his poor luck, he was back lingering around the Red Light District, a place he didn’t really like to be near but had found was a great spot for unconscious scumbags who he could TRY and get a starseed from. That was, if he felt like it. His little misadventures in that area had made him hesitant to try again. As of right now, he was somewhat hoping a starseed would just fall into his lap, or at the very least someone who was in a coma. Standing on a low roof, he looked down and frowned. No such look. The hookers and random players looking for a good time all looked alive and conscious. Damn. Was it too much to ask for some fragile, defenseless person to just pass out?

Unfortunately for poor Wolframite, it was too much to ask to have any seedy bums pass out on the street that evening. As well, it was unfortunate that he was not the only one lingering on the rooftops in the Red Light District.

The Queen of the Negaverse herself was perched on the rooftop next door, the building towering several floors higher than the one the Lieutenant stood crouched on. Or rather, the vessel of the Queen but as far as Nealite was concerned, that was just a technicality. She'd come to the trashy part of town in search of clues of Castor - Tanzanite had come here before and managed to pull him out of hiding, but would Nea be as lucky?

Apparently not.

It was fortunate for her, however, to discover the Lieutenant. His power signature was low - everyone at his rank's was - but still noticeable for one who'd been with the Negaverse for nearly two years. Well, and possessed the soul of the Queen but again with the technicalities.

Leaning over, she watched the boy curiously. She hadn't had the opportunity to meet with Wolframite in person just yet, so was interested to see what the boy was up to before she made her presence known.

Oblivious to who was watching and probably grading his performance, the pint-sized lieutenant watched from over the ledge of the roof to the general commotion of the streets below. It was all rather sickening to watch women and men bargain for sex and even worse when some customers wanted to have more clarification of what they were getting for their dollar. This was w hen he tended to hum them out. That night he had Paradise City stuck in his head courtesy of a beat-up, magenta Cadillac that had cruised by half an hour ago before picking up 2 women from the curb.

As he hummed out a middle-aged man haggling a brunette for a discount, he kept his eyes peeled and spotted a lanky woman with a faux-fur trimmed jacket stumbling her way down the sidewalk and into a nearby alleyway. It was clear she was on something, and he made it a game to wonder if it was a certain type of drug or just booze. He felt he was starting to become a bit of an expert with all the people gazing he was doing in this distract, of course at a safe distance, and followed along the edge of the room as he watched her enter the back alleyway. The jacket was already falling off her shoulders, and she continued to bump into the wall and run into things as she made her way down. Well, better than nothing, and it was probably the best he’d get tonight.

Gripping the end of the building slowly, he eased himself off before landing down in the alleyway below. It still amazed him that he was intact when he stood back up. He always expected to land and have his bones sticking out of his knees.

Turning about, he watched the girl move. She was tall, which always presented a problem with him, but years of drug abuse had made her a walking skeleton. He could see now that one of her heels was broken, making her bounce as she walked. It was a little distracting.

He breathed deep. He had to do this. He HAD to get a starseed. It’s what he was suppose to be doing. Just reach up and grab it. Serandite made it sound so easy. He only wished she showed him how easy it was.

He moved quickly, his boots loud in the alleyway. The woman didn’t notice as she neared a side door, fumbling with the door knob before remembering her keys. She started to dig in her plastic purse.

Don’t think of anything. Just reach up and yank it out. If she tries to resist…. He didn’t want to think about it. Fighting senshi was one thing, but hitting someone to reach into their chest? It always made him sound perverted and vile no matter how disgusting this woman was. In fact, it probably helped she looked horrible.

He tried not to think about it, and instead went up and started to reach up towards her. In a moment, her unfocused eyes went up and noticed him coming, and she gripped her purse in an instant and hit his hand away. “Get back you little rat! You ain’t takin my s**t!” She screeched, and then unlocked the door and went inside.

He was left stunned, looking at his hand. She thought he was a pickpocket after her stupid purse!

She watched him intently as he studied the humans below as if he were a lion picking out his prey. Which would be the easiest catch? Certainly not the burly man, or the cluster of women nearby. No, with Wolfy's height and stature, he was probably aiming for something more obtainable. All the new recruits went for the easy kills - not that Nealite could really blame them. She had done the same, hell, she still did the same, when the opportunity presented itself.

He was being careful and he was being meticulous. Two points for him that other newbies had failed to obtain so far. Scheelite had been prancing down the street when she'd met him. Bixbyite had been dancing in the auditorium. Moonie... well, Moonstone was an entirely different story.

Eyes continued to study the boy, and she moved after him as he swooped down into the alley after a particularly bony individual. She was tall - significantly taller than him - but an easy target. She leapt to the rooftop where the young lieutenant had just been crouched on, and continued to watch as the scene before her unfolded itself.

As soon as the door slammed, the dark-haired boy stared at his hand and then at the door with a puzzled expression on his face. Before he had time to react, however, two purple boots landed behind him, a voice soon to follow.

"It might be wise, next time, to block off her exit before you make your move, Wolfy dear."

Smirking, the Negaverse Captain glanced down at a cuticle, and then back up at the young boy. "Or you know, actually attacking her might do the trick as well."

He was pulled out of his shock by the hard clack of heels on cement. Spinning about (and praying it wasn’t a senshi), he looked up to see a rather bored looking woman dressed in very odd attire. Odd until he started to really start thinking that this was not a fuku, and the other people he knew that wore outfits like his were the Negaverse. This was his first clue, but it was enough to make him shoot his hand down and look at her with more respect. Teammates were teammates to him after all, and he was always happy to meet someone else on his side.

That was until he noticed the hair. Red, sorta orangish. Now he had never met Ursula Johnson, being blessed, or cursed in not living in Hillworth to ever see her. He did know from Serandite, his teacher of sorts, that they had a Queen that was to be married to the General King, and that this person was named Ursula, or Captain Nealite. He only remembered Ursula because he associated it with the octopus woman from The Little Mermaid, but this woman was in NO WAY similar. A shapely form, long hair, and all that shapes that would make a more mature man start breaking out the one-liners. For Wolframite, he looked even more stunned, but made it a point to look at her eyes and nowhere else.

He had a horrible suspicion that this was Ursula, Nealite, Queen? Whatever name she went by, either one of them spelled the fact that she was on the tippy-top of the Negaverse hierarchy. Being a rookie lieutenant, even he knew he was on the sub-basement of the power pyramid, and he stood more rigid at the possibly that he was standing before who he thought he was standing before.

He nearly missed out on what she said before he nodded. Already getting marked for poor performance. Great. His day just got worse. “Uh, yes madam.” Should he salute? Serandite said he shouldn’t, but what if this was the Queen? Was he suppose to bow? Why didn’t she wear a crown so he would KNOW who she was?

His heat was racing.

“I didn’t think about attacking, because I didn’t know if that would damage the starseed. I didn’t want to kill her after all.” Apparently Serandite was a poor teacher. She had yet to explain what a starseed was aside form a crystal in a person’s chest and how to go about taking one. She left out the part of instant death or coma. For Wolframite, he felt he was being very smart with his reply. Too bad he just said one of the stupidest things a Lieutenant to say.

Trying not to stare, he lifted a finger to point slowly at her. "Are you...um....The Queen?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:12 am

"No, I'm your Fairy Godmother."

The boots brought her a step closer to the boy, eyebrows rising as she looked at the small hand pointed in her direction. "Because I'm certain your mother raised you better than to point at people. Especially if that person just happened to be the Queen you presume me to be."

She paused, her smile growing as she reached out to fluff the boy's neckbow. It was cute, really. Harmless. Innocent. Pointing wasn't a sin, not when it came to an organization that made a habit of ripping out the star seeds of anyone they could. It was simply amusing to her how timid he was, how utterly nervous he seemed to be around her. Like Bixbyite, his automatic respect for her had granted him brownie points. She liked respect. His words, however, were even more amusing than his frigid stature and worried expression.

"You didn't want to kill her, dear?" The older girl stared at him as if she'd misheard. Oh, the newness of some Lieutenants. "You really are just a baby, aren't you?"

The urge to ruffle his hair became too strong and pale fingers messed up the shorter child's hair before she moved to stand near the door his victim had escaped into.

This one was going to be fun to play with.

"Star seeds can't be damaged until they're removed." She explained, using one hand to test the doorknob. Locked. Damn. "But I don't expect that you've ever seen one yet, have you Wolfy?"

Eyes turned back to glance at him. Yes, she knew his name. She knew of his status, of his corruption into the Negaverse. She made it her business to know. It also didn't hurt to also be the roommate of the General King of the Negaverse. Knowledge was Ursula's power, information her weapon. She may not have met Wolframite in person until now, but she knew more about the boy than he probably cared for her to know.

Turning back to the door, she wrinkled her nose. The woman had seemed out of it when the Lieutenant had attacked, but there was nothing to say she hadn't attempted to contact the authorities. Granted, the police were slow to respond to calls in this area, but... not exactly the chance worth risking.

"You'll get one tonight, though." Abandoning the door, she turned back around and walked past him, heading straight for the mouth of the alley, "Your generous Captain Nealite will be showing you, so pay attention, darling."

One hand moved back and motioned for him to follow. "That is, unless you want the police to find you loitering around here?"

If he hadn’t just heard that this woman was the Queen, he would have had a different reaction to being called a 'baby', a word that instantly made him dislike who he was talking to. He was 16 and in his world, that was 2 years from being able to buy cigarettes if he wanted to. A clear sign of being an adult. It wasn’t like this woman was much older anyways to even start calling him a baby, which was also surprising. When he thought of Queens, he thought of older women in heavy dresses, simple crowns, and a delicate manner. They hanged out in castles, played the harp, and tended rose gardens. A few minutes into their first encounter and he could already tell Ursula did not follow the traditional profile. Her uniform for one had a short skirt, high boots, and a very low neckline that made him wish she had a jacket. Another thing was that she was playing with him, teasing him, and on normal days, he would have stepped back from her and went into the defensive. Instead, he stood still like a deer in the headlights of royalty and watched as she played with the massive bow about his neck and then ruffled up his hair.

As she went to the door, he quickly reached up and started to comb his hair back down, frowning the entire time before she turned to look at him, where he shot his hands back down and pretended that he’d been watching her the entire time. “Sorry, your Highness. I’ve been trying, but I haven’t had much luck.”

This wasn’t turning out how he wanted at all. When he expected to meet the Queen, he wanted to be able to enter some grand hall, bow down, and be able to either be recognized or present some sort of mission that had been a success. So far, he had been hit by a purse in her presence, pointed at her, and showed he had absolutely zip when it came to starseeds. Things weren't going well for …Wolfy?

The Queen, Nealite, pressed her ear to the door and turned the doorknob, giving her the impression of a safe cracker, before she noticed it was locked. Sometimes paranoia was a druggie’s best friend. It had been surprising to him that their Queen, his Queen, was out and about in uniform. Breaking every preconceived image of royalty, Nealite seemed to shape her own, and most would agree it wasn’t a bad shape at all. Her air of confidence, the fact she was helping him, and that she as willing to actually work on the streets with the rest of her team spoke volumes to Wolframite, and he felt that all nicknames and hair-ruffling aside, he liked his Queen. She had spunk!

Following her out of the alley, he looked about before turning his eyes back at Ursula, waiting for her next move. He had so many questions he wanted answered about their group. He’d been given the bare bones during his 'introduction' and through Serandite's training, but now he only wished to be polite and gain a good impression with his Queen. Was he being graded now? Would this go under his personal file? How much did she know about him to be able to recognize him and call him by his Lieutenant name? Whatever the case, he wanted to show her through their limited time together (the Queen was probably very busy running an empire) that he was up to the task. “I really appreciate you helping me, your Highness. I’m sure you’ve very busy. Lieutenant Serandite has only told me a little bit about starseeds and how to go about getting them.” This all came out a little too fast as he started to pull on one of the green bows on his sleeve. He wasn’t intending to throw his teacher under the bus, he just wished she showed how to get one through example, mainly because she was short and she might know a trick or two to compensate for the height problem.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 22, 2010 11:41 am

She paused at the entrance of the alley, allowing her young companion the chance to catch up with her. One hand moved back to brush out her own hair, and she turned to glance at the boy in ribbons. "As much as I appreciate you calling me that, it's probably for the best if you stuck to Nea while we're out and about, Wolfy dear." (Not that 'Wolfy' was by any means an inconspicuous name, but at least that could be ignored better than 'your Highness').

Motioning again for him to follow, she left the alley and made her way down the street, her proud walk soon turning into a slow saunter. As odd as her attire was, it blended in entirely too well with the outfits on the women roaming and loitering the streets. No one gave her a second look for her outfit - perhaps for her face or curves, but never her outfit.

Unfortunately for Wolframite, no one on the streets wore Victorian outfits with frilly bows, but thankfully all eyes that passed over the duo rested upon the taller, flame-haired woman and not the oddly dressed boy at her side.

"While you were smart to look in the less... prestigious areas of town, one important thing to remember is to look in areas that best suits you."

Her voice was soft, low and nearly inaudible. One hand moved to rest on his shoulder as they walked side by side, her head nodding now and then to people they passed by. People Ursula Johnson would have never nodded her head towards. "You look odd here. A boy in a place notorious for homing the filth and shame of Destiny City? If you were a beautiful woman or even a school girl, you'd have advantages here. But you're a young boy - the most you'd get would be a dirty old man or at best, be ignored as just some teenager who wandered here out of curiosity."

As if summoning one with her words, a middle aged man to their right made a gesture towards the Negaverse Captain. A lewd gesture. She smiled and stopped, glancing down to the Lieutenant. Leaning over, she whispered for him to stay back and follow her into the alley when the man's back was turned.

Wait. Alley?

Leaving Wolframite standing there, she moved towards the man. Words were exchanged, low enough for Wolframite to only catch tidbits, here and there. Prices. Favors. Jobs. It was easy to tell that the man failed to have honorable intentions when calling the Queen of the Negaverse over to him, but Nealite didn't seem to mind as she wiggled one finger towards the greasy-haired man and made her way to the side and into the dark alleyway.

In no time at all, the man followed, leaving Wolframite the only option but to follow after. When he did make his way into the alley, the man was no longer standing around and leering at Nealite, but instead lay sprawled at her feet, immobile. Nealite, standing above, was waving her mirror and simply grinning.

"Ready to learn about star seeds, dear?"

Another thing to mark off not to do. While he was told not to salute on the grounds that the Negaverse wasn’t that formal, You Highness was out too. At least in public anyways. Really giving it a moment’s thought, he connected the dots to tell him that this was all about being undercover. Their outfits attracted enough attention, but going about saluting in anything but an official military uniform (not Negaverse military) was out of place. Maybe when they were alone he could go about being polite, but it seemed better just to pretend nothing otherworldly was going on here at all. “Yes, Nealite.” He corrected, showing her he understood. It still felt too informal though.

In addition, he was also to find a new place to roam. Marks for going to the Red Light District, but deductions in standing out. He already knew that someone like him wasn’t the typical sight to be seen and the most he got was a few laughs, weird expressions, and yes, he already got a few unwanted glances from some dirty men. It’s why he started lingering on rooftops just to avoid it all. To be told to find someplace else wasn’t too hard for him to do. He had no fondness for these people that only made the world a worse place. They made him sick, and he always felt filthy after his patrols.

He continued to ‘yes, madam’ Nealite’s advice, before she told him to stop. Confused, he watched her walk off to a very greasy man at the corner. It was as if someone had dipped the man's entire body in oil, and when he grinned wide as she made her way over, they glistened yellow. Pretending not to hear what he was only catching in pieces, he instead admired a nice burning trashcan farther off before looking over when the talk died down and the pair went into the alleyway.

Looking about and trying to act inconspicuous, he followed behind. When he got there, the slimy man was already unconscious and on the ground. While Wolframite was glad he wasn’t awake to spout out more vulgarities, he also wished he’d been around to see the woman take him out. But now it was time to see what they were there for in the first place. Starseed collecting in action. Very interested, he gave a clear “Yes, madam”, making sure to keep his voice down in case he attract any unwanted attention.

This was it. He stepped closer to the man to give a better view (This guy was disgusting!), but gave the Captain some room to work her magic.

It was far more fun to take star seeds while the victims were still conscious (as was her normal routine) but as the boy obviously had no experience, they would have to work with something that didn't put up a fight. At least, on the first run.

She motioned for him to step closer and as he approached, she stooped down to a crouch alongside the body. He was still breathing and with no blood in sight, Wolframite could only assume he'd been knocked out cold thanks to the mirror still in his leader's left hand.

"Star seeds are located in the chest," the Captain explained, her right hand now hovering over the man's torso, "Directly in the middle - around where the heart normally is? Don't be afraid to just reach in. You'll know it when you touch it."

Hand dipped down into the man's chest, her fingers disappearing through the greaseball's button up shirt. The man's breath became raspy almost instantly, the victim choking and thrashing as the Negaverse officer held tight around his seed. She yanked and he went still, her hand pulling back and out of the man's chest.

Rising up from the ground, she extended her palm out to the boy and opened her hand, revealing the glittering seed that lay within. It wasn't terribly large, but it was beautiful.

"Once retrieved, you'll turn these in to either myself or your General-King." She paused, her expression darkening slightly, "Or, if you're in need of energy for any reason, you can consume one. Be warned though, Wolfy, one too many of these can turn you into a youma. Literally. So don't make a habit unless you want to turn into a brainless twit."

The hand closed up, and she dropped the seed into her jacket pocket. Moving back towards the man, she leaned over and began to rummage through his pockets, only stopping once she'd retrieved his wallet. Opening it up, she sifted through it, picking through the cards and content. Money and identification were removed, then the raided wallet was dropped on the man's chest.

Seemingly satisfied, her attention returned to her student. "Now, Wolfy, it's your turn." Not a request, but a statement, "I can't exactly leave Mr. Nobody here without cleaning up after my mess, so either you get to bring one back into the alley, or we're going elsewhere. Your choice."

It was both bizarre and unnerving the way her hand vanished in the man’s chest. There was no sense of resistance as her hand just sank in and vanished from sight, her body tilting as more of her arm sank in and them moved about. She looked like a magician trying to find the rabbit for her latest trick, and all the while the man who had been inanimate before was now jerking, his limbs shaking and smacking the ground as he let of jolting spasms before. With a dramatic yank, her hand was freed and he went still. Wolframite was glad. The sound of the man’s shoes and soft body flapping on the ground like a fish out of water made him ill, and he was glad to not see or hear it any longer. It all looked so….painful.

When Nealite’s manicured fingers opened up, he saw what all the hubbub was all about, and for good reason. It wasn’t like anything he’d seen before. The starseed looked more like a oddly-shaped crystal, not taking in light and refracting it, but shining with it's own light. He half expected a choir to sing upon seeing it, and then Nealite clutched it again and stuffed it into her pocket.

He found he had been gapping, and stood up straighter as he nodded. Eat them? It hardly looked edible, but who was he to judge what could and couldn’t be done after seeing that? “Alright.” The idea of becoming a youma wasn’t all that appealing anyways, about as much as eating a small rock was. Still, good to know and right now, that’s what he wanted. To know things. He also noted she was taking his things, and for a moment was appalled she was stealing form the man, but then guessed that it looked better to make him think he was just mugged than anything else. Would someone notice a tiny crystal from their chest was missing? Guess not.

Wolframite looked to the man as the wallet was tossed on him, and while he still repulsed him, he was getting worried. Any other time, he might have just said the man was sleeping, but he didn’t look peaceful. The expression he had looked scrunched up, and his body was still. Should….they check on him? What if he went into shock? Maybe he had a heart condition? A nagging need to go over and check on his pulse almost took over, but he was sure that Nealite knew what she was doing and didn’t want to upset her by questioning her methods. He’s fine. Just pay attention.

And then came the real test. Not one for the spotlight, he was instantly tense at having to have his first run be watched over by the head honcho herself. “..ah, now?” Of course now, you idiot. “Um…okay.” His eyes looked back to where they came, debating if it would be better to leave or stick to this alleyway. Seemed smart to stick to a place that seemed to be working – but what did she say about cleaning up her mess? Wasn’t she already done staging the scene of a mugging?

“I’ll bring someone here and…knock them out..” He guessed. It seemed the method he was suppose to be doing. He made a step away, paused, and then leaned over to pick up the empty wallet. “I’ll bring it back.” Not that Nealite probably cared, but he wasn’t sure. He just needed a prop.

Leaving the alleyway, he fumbled with the wallet as his thoughts raced. That greaseball still looked unwell, and he was told that if there was an accident, you should use first-aid. No. He had to think of bigger things right now. The guy was probably fine. Right now he had to bring back someone to the alleyway and knock them out. The last part really wasn’t something he was looking forward to. Beating up senshi was one thing, they were the enemy, but just random people?

Stepping out onto the sidewalk, he looked around. He couldn’t keep the Queen waiting long, but he had to find someone that would work for him. Size was important here, and he swept over people to see what he had to work with. Not much. Most were too tall, and he spotted a few men that could probably step on him if they felt like it.

What he decided on was a young woman, skimpy in dress and rather lank, but she was about an inch shorter than average and that was the best he’d get. Coming up to her, she gave him a look over, was amused, and asked him what he wanted. “I want your time.” She instantly barked a laugh and turned to face him fully. “You sure are young to be asking for my time. How old are you? Can you even get anything up?” Such language made him flush and he turned his head, not able to directly look at her as he held up the wallet. “I have cash.” She paused, but upon seeing the wallet, what looked like it came from an older man, she shrugged. “Sure.” A quickie bought by some parent’s stolen cash was fine by her, and she started to follow him when he remembered. “I know this sounds weird….but can someone watch?” The girl didn’t even pause in step as she followed him. “My, My. You sure are adventurous for your age. Fine, but I charge for watchers.” A boy in a weird costume with, upon entering the alley, a woman in a weird getup. Freaks and kinks. That’s all it was to her. She noticed the man. “Is he okay?”

“Uh, that’s her boyfriend.” He felt panicked, and the response was quick. The hooker was kneeling down to look at the guy, reaching over to shake his shoulder. “Hey, man. Your sweetheart took something too much?” She was worried.

He couldn’t hit her directly. It felt wrong. Too close, and he remembered Nealite and her mirror. He summoned the jump rope. It’s fine. Just a knock on the head. She’ll wake up and only have a bruise. Might teach her to be more wary. That’s all. Pale, he stepped close behind her as the woman was still shaking the man’s shoulder. She seemed like a good person, being concerned. Do it. You’re being tested! With the hard handle in his hand, he reached up and clubbed her on the back of the head. She dropped like a rock. She didn't move.

“I didn’t hit her too hard, did I?” His heart was racing.

((Sorry about how long it is!!!))

She grinned at his question - was he joking? No, judging by his expression, he was fairly serious over whether or not he'd beaned the woman on the head too hard. He probably thought they were still alive after their star seeds were taken.

Sigh.

Nealite wasn't sure who was training the new recruits these days, if they were being trained at all. Taking a few steps forward, she reached out and took hold of the younger boy's small hand. Moving down, she forced them both into a crouch as she placed his hand directly above the woman's chest. "You knocked her out. As long as she's out cold, that's what counts. It won't matter how hard you hit her."

Her larger hand pushed down on his, forcing it into the woman's chest cavity. Wrapping her fingers around his, she located the woman's star seed and then forced the lieutenant's hand over the crystal. Once secured, she then pulled, taking both his hand and the crystal within it out of the woman.

"It won't matter because you just killed her."

Eyes studied the younger boy as she spoke; it was always hard on the new guys, when they first learned they were taking lives when they took star seeds. "She was destined to die, Wolfy. Her life was taken so that the Negaverse can prevail, that we can conquer those who oppose us and correct the world as it needs to be. One life, two lives, a handful of lives is nothing in comparison to the number we're sparing in the end, when we defeat the Moon Kingdom and take back the Earth for its rightful ruler."

Rising up from the ground, she then leaned down to take hold of both arms of the woman. Dragging her over to where the other body lay, she then dropped one of the woman's arms and took hold of one of the man's. Without looking up at the lieutenant, she continued. "You shouldn't take the star seed unless you have a way of disposing the body. I'd suggest working on kiddos your size, as opposed to full grown adults like these, not unless you can stage it to look like an accidental death."

Glancing up, she finally smiled once more at the younger boy, "Looks bad for our rep, otherwise. Anyhow, I'll take care of these for you this time, but you're on your own from here on out. I'll check in soon with you - see how you're doing."

With that, the woman blinked out of sight, taking the two still-warm corpses with her.

Nealite’s words were soothing, and he was glad that she was here to calm his worries. The unconscious woman was fine, and he felt relieved. Just then, she took his hand, and he startled, but followed her down to crouch by her side. This close, he could smell perfume, and he was more and more aware of her soft hand around his own. So this is how a woman’s hand feels like. He tried not to look at her, but it felt even more indecent to have his hand hover around the fallen woman’s chest. In any other situation, he would have pulled back, but kept his hand in place as it was held. Then it sank down. When he expected to feel fabric, the heat of a woman’s skin, his hand sank into nothingness. Then he felt something hard. Leading his hand, Nealite forced him to take it, and he knew that he was touching a starseed. It was warm, like a stone that had been left in the sun, and with a bit of resistance, it broke free. The woman made a noise, and he looked up to see her mouth open and then exhale.

"It won't matter because you just killed her."

He jolted under her hand, and as she released, he remained there, hand out and holding the starseed and looking at the spot where his hand had sunk. Slowly turning, he looked up and tensed when Nealite’s large, orange eyes looked back at him.It didn’t seem possible, and he instantly refused that he had done so. She was pulling his leg, but even as he told himself this, his face was pale, his eyes widened as his pupils shook, and he heard his breath quicken. “What?”

The Queen only continued on, not dropping the joke as she explained. While he heard, listened, all words failed to be processed as he remained on that first thought. Looking back at the girl, he reached out with his free hand and touched her. She still felt warm, and he shook her a little. She wasn’t dead. She was just knocked out. She’d be awake in an hour tops. He shook her again, and this time her head just lolled about, and he saw her chest wasn’t moving anymore. There was something different to a person who was knocked out and someone who was dead. It was the first time he saw a dead person. He hadn’t even been allowed to see his uncle during the funeral because his mother felt the open casket would scar him. Now he was looking at her, and he didn’t know how he knew, but he started to wait for signs of life. A twitching finger, the gentle rising of her chest, even a bit of movement to her eyes. Nothing.

“But…but she…” Nealite didn’t wait for him to check her pulse, grabbing the girl without respect and yanking her limp body up and then tossing it beside the man. It was then that Wolframite thought of the man, and realized he was dead too. Nealite killed him, and here she was talking as if nothing had happened. She started to talk about disposing bodies, and he felt he was loosing his breath. This really wasn’t a joke. Somehow he killed someone. He never thought he could possibly do it. Not because of morals, but because he never thought he’d be physically able to do it. All because he took a little starseed in someone’s chest.

The crystal was still warm in his hand, having never cooled, and he looked down as he slowly opened his hand. Nealite was leaving, her last words that she would check on him again, and the unspoken words that he was to continue collecting more starseeds. “But..!” When he looked up, Nealite and the bodies were gone. There was nothing here to suggest the Queen was here or what had happened. He suddenly remembered the wallet, and pulled it out to see it. Panicking, he threw it in the trash, stepping away before his back hit the opposing wall. Panting, he held the crystal before looking back down again, looking at it for the first time.

It was beautiful and he felt himself choking up. He didn’t want to see it anymore, and shoved it into his pocket. Hearing people down the alleyway made him shoot back, stumbling backwards before looking around. He expected the police, some form of ultimate justice to come down and punish him. Frightened, he leaped up, over the roof. The moment he started to move, he ran faster. Faster than he ever had, all to get away from that alleyway.
