The Best And The Worst Bands Of 2005 - F*ck Yeah!
In fact, our first expirience of making "The Best and the Worst band of the year" has turned out to have quite unexpected results... About two weeks ago we asked you to choose two music acts, and as a result, it was obvious who would lead in each category within just an hour after the poll become available to the public -- that's impressed us a lot, because it showed how much your opinions are similiar in general. On the other hand, we had too much charts made by mtv, vh1, guitar magazines and so on, so it was a good idea to give you a chance to compile the one by yourself! And I can only expect what will you say after learning who are the winners!

*drum rolls* and the winner is...

The Best Band Of 2005: System Of A Down
(1026 votes)

As far back as last year, System Of A Down recorded two new albums, that were destined to be released, discussed and admired throughout the whole 2005. The band decided to stretchs the fans' pleasure and released CDs "Mesmerize" and "Hypnotize" nearly half a year apart. After series of delays, Mezmerize -- first one in a row -- saw the daylight on May 17th.

The disk was produced by Rick Rubin and the band's guitarist Daron Malakian, and followed the band's 6-million-selling 2001 album, Toxicity. Mezmerize entered at Number One position of the Billboard/SoundScan chart, scanning an astounding 453,000 copies in its first week of sales in the US. The CD also came in at #1 on numerous music charts around the world including those in Germany, Canada, Austria, France, Sweden, Japan, Switzerland, Colombia, Greece, Brazil, and New Zealand. Without regard for the numerous internet leaks of other tracks, the mighty rockers' marathon of fame was kicked off with the official first single "B.Y.O.B.", proclaiming a new era in the music.

The second part of a two-disc set, Hypnotize, was released with yet more weighty delay, repeating the first CD's success. The album scanned nearly 350,000 copies in its first week of sales, and that was enough for it to get to the top of US and international charts and make System Of A Down the first artist ever which had two Number One studio album debuts in the same calendar year!

F*ck Yeah!

In the beginning of 2005, System Of A Down announced that after releasing "Mesmerize/Hypnotize", they would spend the next couple years on the road. "We're going out and doing as many shows as we can," said guitarist Daron Malakian. The tour schedule has been truly insane, seeing the quartet performing in almost each part of the world -- and in almost every TV show supposing that.

By the way, a funny incident happened in May, when the group played "B.Y.O.B" on "Saturday Night Live" and the channel didn't mute F-word, accidentally screeched by Daron Malakian. The camera even focused on him as he said "F*ck yeah!". The fans' hailed the move, though neither MTV's "System Of A Down Live" in April, nor Fuse's "Uranium" in June, or any other later TV appearences went off with such incidents.

Wu Tang System

As for the band's members side projects, let's sort everything out. SOAD frontman Serj Tankian has been working on a CD for Buckethead. Serj also remixed a track by late rapper Notorious B.I.G., called "Who Shot Ya". Bassist Shavo Odadjian announced he was working with GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan to do a record. They're going to work in the studio after the completion of System's tour. Malakian revealed recently that he has tons of solo material on hand. "It's definitely not coming out soon, but if I wanted to I could release ten solo records tomorrow," said the guitarist. He has also unveiled that it is an experimental electronic music.

The Worst Band Of 2005: Green Day (2012 votes)

Green Day have spent this year actively promoting their blockbuster American Idiot, which had been topping the charts for the weeks straight. But looks like they've overdone the job a bit -- the most common explanation of the band's failure in the poll is that all of you have just tired of them.

Anyway, let's round-up what this pop-punk trio have achieved this year.

Green Day got on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine in February, just before massively extending their world tour and announcing a headlining appearence at the Irish Oxegen Festival. The RIAA officially certified American Idiot Triple Platinum for sales of more than three million copies, while the band was earning a pair of Gold Digital awards for the tracks "American Idiot" and "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams," that have been downloaded more than 100,000 times each. In September, the album would be certified quadruple platinum.

Of course it's a doubtful desert, but yet curious enough to mention it here -- earlier this year, a schoolboy was woken from a coma when he heard a track by his favourite rock band (guess who?!). Corey George was unconscious for two weeks on a life support machine after being knocked down by a car, but less than an hour after his mother played him the "American Idiot" CD, he had opened his eyes and was able to move his fingers and toes. Don't you find it touching?

Suburbia Bomb

In June Green Day announced that they had already started work on around 15 songs for their next album, although the process of laying down tracks was in the very early stages. Later on, the band's plans started taking yet more ambitious look. The trio decided to turn their album into a major motion picture titled "American Idiot: The Motion Picture." Filming of this wonder could begin as early as next year. What's more, the group has already filmed an extra epic clip for their nine minute single "Jesus Of Suburbia" (directing duties were taken by legendary Sam Bayer).

Among other achievements... Green Day were named best band on the planet at the Kerrang! rock awards in August. The same month the California trio scored seven wins including the evening's top honor of Video of the Year at the annual MTV Video Music Awards. They also won awards for Best Rock and Best Album at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2005, which took place on November 3. A week later, the band released a live CD/DVD "Bullet In A Bible" -- the concert recording and resulting DVD were taken from two June performances in Milton Keynes, England. Meanwhile Spain's Locomotive Records released documentary-styled two-hour history called "The History Of Green Day: Suburbia Bomb."

I agree with what they said about Good Charlotte. They were much better in the past. I liked their first CD and hate they're new one. The worst part is, half of my friends are Good Charlotte freaks. So whenever I go to their house I here new GC 'cause they don't have the older CDs >.<

A7X should've been ahead of GD on the best band thing. SoaD rules all, but A7X is my second favorite band, tied with Hawthorne Heights :3

Green Day was great in concert, but after that, it just got too overplayed thus making SoaD my favorite band. GD used to be my fav. til they went and murdered my ears with Wake Me Up When September Ends on just about every time I put on MTV Hits or the radio.

Coldplay should've been higher in the worst bands. I despise them. Never should music like that be made. It hurts my ears. >.<

I've never heard Trivium or Children of Bodom. Honestly though, Hawthorne Heights should be on there. They sold more than 5 million I think it was copies of they're debut CD :3

Anyway, that's just what I think. I know HH has sold like the most CDs at least this year for a debut album though.

You know, if Clutch were more mainstream, they would totally be up there on one of the best...

Alright, fine... My favorite three bands are:
1.) System of a Down (Really, now?)
2.) The Mars Volta (Exceeeepptt.... I barely know about the songs. When I saw them, they immediatly became my second favorite band, because I'm still way too obsessed with SOAD... Not a bad thing, right? Right?! So, even with my lack of knowledge about them, I still think their band is wonderful.)
3.)Change Versus Comfort (The band my uncle is the drummer in. Oh come on... Won't you please visit www.changeversuscomfort.com to hear their music and see pictures?)

Woo, I would have checked this before if I knew about this site, love! They are awesome! surprised I'm truly amazed. I like a lot. whee Who's your uncle? He must be pretty young. They don't look so old, at least.

Wow, that's interesting. Congrats to System of a Down. The Green Day thing's a little weird though. Ah well, I like them.
I'm really happy Velvet Revolver was on that list. They rock.

Green Day used to be my favorite band, but now because of all the hate they're getting, I don't know if I'm supposed to like them or not anymore. Either way, I sure am sick of hearing about them.

Oh yeah, um, Hawthorne Heights sucks. But obviously someone likes them because they're all over the place too.
