It was a Tuesday afternoon, and most students were in classes. On a normal day, Fallon would be too, but she had to reschedule an appointment with her psychiatrist, Dr. Price, that morning and used it as an excuse to take the entire day off. Crystal Academy understood. After all, part of her acceptance into the prestigious school was based on her regular attendance of those appointments.

After leaving the Dr.'s office, Fallon did a little shopping nearby, picking up a simple pale purple blouse and a pair of earrings. She contemplated making a run to her favorite stationary store too, but it was further away and she'd have to take a cab. Despite the cold, Fallon actually enjoyed walking around in Destiny City, at least during the day when there were other people around.

There was a layer of snow on the ground, but Fallon didn't mind. She had never hated the cold the way some people did. Slushy snow, on the other hand, was evil. Her brown boots were leather, and each time she kicked a little pocket of snow, her nose would wrinkle, mouth turning down into a frown.

Up ahead, a sign shaped like a steaming cup of espresso swung lazily off the side of the building. Fallon had never been to the place before, but her fingers were cold beneath her gloves. A warm beverage might be just what she needed, especially since Imogen was in class and unavailable to make her one. Slipping inside, she unbuttoned her coat, slipping it off her shoulders and draping it over one arm.

Fallon ordered a caramel latte with non-fat and grabbed a seat in a small corner booth built for two, hanging her jacket and her shopping bag up on the coat hook attached to her seat. Normally, this place would be packed with people, especially given the weather, but it was the middle of the day. Most people were at school or work. Straightening the neckline of her cream sweater, Fallon cupped her latte with both hands and leaned in over the steam, inhaling the earthy scent.

As it was every day, Cassius' father called their house seventeen times before the blonde child answered the phone, to only exclaim '******** Off'. Unfortunately for Cassius, he was now awake. When he did answer the phone he could hear his father's voice laughing at him, saying even at a new and privileged school his son would still be the idiot he always was. That might have seemed true, seeing as Cassius was still in bed. But his father was still wrong. Cassius just did things differently, and his father was too stupid to ever notice the excellent grades his son could produce when he did attend classes.

As it was every morning, Cassius was ready for his coffee after waking up so abruptly. He remembered a phone call the previous day on how he had to go meet with a teacher or something later that afternoon. He decided if he stayed at home, he'd never go and meet the teacher since he'd probably fall back asleep again. Getting out of the house appeared to be the only good idea he could think of at the moment if any productivity would arise. After getting his school uniform on and grabbing a coat, Cassius was off and into the cold day. The sunlight was already blinding him and he cursed his father's name every time a wind chill hit him. He obviously had it very rough in his life. He needed to move out soon anyways. He had plenty of money but was too lazy to look for a place (shocking), plus if he lived on his own he'd never wake up for anything ever again...

His thoughts distracted him enough to bring him into a familiar coffee shop down the street, and when he reached the counter he ordered his usual extra large coffee- just black. As the attendee of the shop got him his coffee, he was glad to see the place was pretty much empty. After receiving his drink he made his way to a booth that was right in front of another where a girl seemed to occupy it. He preferred sitting in the corners. Apparently he wasn't the only one there who also enjoyed that seating as well. So of course, so he could get a good view of the girl, he sat on the opposite side so he could see her, and watched her while drinking his coffee. He was starting to wake up with each warm sip he took.

Fallon glanced up as the long-haired boy approached her little corner spot. She surveyed him disinterestedly, and only for a brief moment. The long hair was nice, but that was the extent of his appeal. Fallon had no qualms about her sexuality -- and it steered her attention promptly away from the boy and over to the counter where a dark-haired girl bent to pick up some fallen change.

The boy, however, seemed more interested in Fallon. She could feel his eyes on her the next booth over. Odd. Magenta eyes flickered to his. He was sipping his coffee and watching her, and he didn't seem that abashed about it. Well, this wouldn't do. Fallon had no desire to sit in silence while this stranger stared her down.

Leaning out to the side to get a better look, Fallon lifted one hand and said, "Excuse me, do I know you?" It was certainly more polite than asking him what the hell he was looking at, or if there was something on her face, or if he was blind. For a moment, she touched at her mouth to make sure no residue foam had stayed behind. There wasn't any.

Cassius definitely saw her watching another gal, and there were many possibilities to be affiliated with that. Maybe this girl hated her or something. Or, she could have thought she knew her from somewhere. OR in the extent of awesomeness, she was interested in the female nearby. Either way, Cassius couldn't tell, but he loved the fact that she wasn't looking at him. So now he was interested, of course.

When she spoke he only sipped his coffee slowly before wiping his mouth in delight. "I don't think we've met, unless you would like to." He finally added, while lifting his hand up in a slow wave. "I was just admiring you, that's all." She did have very distinct and lovely features. Plus come on, he had to find out why she wasn't interested in him by the least bit. There was always a reason for everything, and Cassius constantly set out to find those reasons.

"Do you know that girl over there?" he finally asked, glancing his eyes over. "She's awfully cute, too." As usual, he'd proceed onward in a way he always did. Asking questions and acting dumb.

Fallon kept one hand curled around her warm latte, the other propping up her chin. Was he coming on to her? It wasn't that the girl was a stranger to being hit on, but she wasn't accustomed to a person being quite so blatant, quite so fast. "I'm just having coffee," she said, tapping the side of the cup with a painted nail. "Or do you say that to all the girls?" The line about admiring her was a little too obvious, but Fallon got the idea that this guy didn't mind if he was obvious. Which meant he was cocky. Sigh.

When he drew her attention, Fallon glanced back over to the girl at the counter who was taking her receipt and crossing to the other side of the counter where completed orders could be picked up. The girl was cute, certainly. She had a certain cluelessness that Fallon adored in girls. If she weren't being preoccupied by the strange boy, it was highly likely that Fallon would already be over there trying to talk to her.

She glanced back to the long-haired boy. "No, I don't know her," she said, ignoring his cute comment. "Were you admiring her too?" Since Fallon was aware of being attracted to others, she had always been drawn to other girls. And almost as long, she had become aware of how exciting the prospect of a girl wanting another girl was to a boy. She didn't like to give any male she encountered the satisfaction of a fantasy, and she didn't intend to do it now.

What was it with him running into such difficult females lately? He supposed it was alright that she was judging him, since he in reality was constantly doing the same thing back. It was natural for everybody to judge each other... and it was fun. Plus, it was always better when he ran into someone else who seemed to have a different way of acting then others. He definitely preferred someone more challenging then someone overly happy and friendly.

He finally replied, "Not everybody." Thankfully. "Wouldn't you rather have coffee with some company? I promise I won't bite." he shrugged lightly before putting his hands around his own cup. "I wouldn't say I was really admiring, but I noticed her I suppose." His coffee was starting to get cooler and he frowned when he realized this. Ah well. He was already feeling better then when he first arrived, so he couldn't really complain. "So are you in school?" Or was she ditching out, like himself? He had to admit, if she was that'd be a shocker. But he always enjoyed a shocker!

"My name is Cassius James, by the way." He might as well introduce himself. "Might I get the pleasure of learning yours?"

For all his cheesy lines and staring, Fallon found Cassius largely harmless. Other girls might be at risk of getting wooed, but Fallon had two very important traits that kept her numb to it.

1. She was highly skeptical of the advances of others.
2. She was a lesbian. A big one.

The interaction with Cassius was certainly no threat to her, nothing at risk, and Fallon did like company. Even though people could stress her out and make her want to start breathing into a paper bag, she felt happier in the company of others. Life was meant to be lived alongside loved ones. Fallon knew that, even if it was hard for her to be around people sometimes.

"People might think we're odd if we continue talking across tables," she said, sliding out of her seat. She grabbed her coat and bag and hung it on the hook attached to Cassius's booth. Then she brought her latte over and took a seat across from him. "I go to Crystal Academy, but I took the day off for a doctor's appointment. I'm Fallon," she said, adding, "Novette-Naim." She reached out a hand to shake.

Well, THIS was a nice change. Cassius knew that his 'bothering people' usually paid off after enough harm was done. He really was always open to meeting new people around these parts and sought out to do so. He always figured- what did he have to lose? He wanted to make as many connections as he could and now was just like any other opportunity. He watched her as she gathered her things and made her way into his booth. "It's very nice to meet you, Fallon." he shook her hand gently and smiled all the same. "And a pleasure."

He tiled his head lightly as she spoke of an appointment. "Why, I hope everything is alright? Are you sick or just there for a check up?" Maybe he should wash his hands or something just in case... Naw, that would be obsessive. "What school do you attend?" He'd never seen her at Sovereign Heights before. But then again, he was hardly there himself.

"I really don't mean for this to come off as obnoxious, but you have lovely eyes." He enjoyed looking at them from afar. They were so bright and vivid. He wondered what she was hiding in that well-styled head of hers. She had to have some crazy secrets or something. Everyone did, right? "You must have boys chasing you all over school."

The handshake was nice, warm, and of appropriate firmness. Fallon was a bit afraid he might be the type to hold on too long, or to drag her knuckles forward for a hastily placed kiss. Howl had kissed her hand once, but when he did it, it was not threatening. Howl, actually, was not threatening at all to her. Either was Cassius, really, but he certainly seemed more forward than the teal-haired acquaintance that came to mind.

Moving her hand back to her coffee cup, Fallon lifted it and took a sip. "It was a routine check-up," she said, which was true. She routinely saw her psychiatrist to have a little check-up on her mental state. Fallon had no intention of sharing that detail. "I go to Crystal Academy," she repeated. She had already said that once. It would appear that Cassius was not a good listener. Fallon didn't react on her face, but internally, she began to give him more points on the "I am full of hot air and bullshit" meter. Even if he was, the conversation could still pass the time.

When he complimented her eyes, Fallon gave him a skeptical look. Her lips said, "Thank you," but her eyes said, Bullshit. It wasn't that Fallon did not believe she had lovely eyes. She thought she did. But it was too soon for this stranger to be spouting so many compliments, especially after how he had greeted her initially.

Wait, why was she talking to him again? Oh, right. Entertainment. "The boys chase everyone," she said. "Don't you?" He was a pretty boy, but Fallon was curious if he would come clean about his charming ways. How many boys genuinely offered that many compliments so early on without wanting something more?

"It's a relief to hear you weren't ill- I would questioned why you were sitting here instead of in bed." He was quite the doctor. He'd most definitely be the first to give medical advice on any day as long as it involved lots of sleeping. "I hope you've enjoyed your day off. I think more people should have longer breaks from school. It's just too overwhelming in my opinion." The standard school system seemed a bit ridiculous. School had similar hours to that of a job- and whoever created the system was an idiot to him.

Really, Cassius would have loved to attend an all girls school. Maybe he'd actually show up to school with that kind of incentive. "I've met some people from Crystal Academy before." he led his finger around the rim of his cup ever so gently. "You girls look like you enjoy not having guys around." If he had to attend an all guys school Cassius would have dropped out of the school completely. Girls on the other hand could never get enough of each other. Gossip was such a strong thing.

She didn't seem to happy with his comment, which was expected. That was the third or fourth time she'd given him that look. His own facial expression back towards her always held a 'was it something I said?' innocence to it. "Like I said, I meant no harm. I just speak what I'm feeling all of the time." Even if other's didn't want to hear it and also if it really was bullshit.

"As a matter of fact, I don't." He face moved from side to side in a playful manner. "I much prefer being chased." It was powerful, ok? "Plus there is nothing exciting about having every girl. There are always those few that stand out as the unachievable. Those are the one's I might go after." As if that were shocking enough. "I don't believe in giving myself up to everybody anyways. Even if you don't believe me." he grinned ever so slight and watched her exciting eyes once again.

Fallon certainly enjoyed the lack of males at Crystal Academy. It wasn't that she was anti-male. After all, Andeon was one of her best friends (even if he was spending all of his time with Mackenzie now). Fallon simply got along better with girls. She found them more interesting, more lovely. Even if she didn't like the girl, she could at least enjoy the view. And Fallon felt safer surrounded by other women, like they were on the same side or something. She never really questioned it. The girl just gravitated toward other girls are never thought twice.

"I love Crystal Academy," she said, pulling her latte closer. "It's full of girls who are clean and neat and refine." Mostly. She could think of a few whose presence made her stomach gurgle unhappily. A certain Margaret Butler, for instance, and her piercing twange. But over all, Fallon was lightyears happier at Crystal than she ever had been at any other school. Maybe it was the therapy? Hm. Maybe.

Fallon stared at Cassius like he was a specimen on a dissection table and she was holding the scalpel. "Overachiever," she said and laughed. Lifting her cup, she glanced over to the door as a new customer entered and then back to Cassius. "So, Cassius, what are you doing out of class on a school day?" He looked older than her, but Fallon had no idea by how many years. She was almost sixteen, and she tended to assume that everyone else was roughly her age too.

Cassius kept his eyes sharp and his smile even sharper. Fallon's question was expected and he knew his answer would be amusing for her to deal with. Girls hated a deadbeat guy. But Cassius wasn't your average deadbeat. He was happily rich, and to him he was just smarter then everyone else. So he didn't need to worry himself with school all of the time. He just did things differently and would deal with the consequences later when he's teachers finally noticed. It really was a great system for him.

"I slept past my early morning classes. But I do need to head to campus at some point today and meet with another teacher." A teacher who had finally noticed him ditching his afternoon history class. Seriously, who made a class at five in the afternoon? There was always better things to do that late in the day. Cassius would have a hard time explaining that to a very grumpy teacher. But these situations were fun for him, in a weird and crazy way.

"But when I do go to class I attend Sovereign Heights. It's a nice place so I can't really complain." Besides the having to go there thing at annoying hours of the day. "So what kind of extracurricular activities do you enjoy doing at school? I am actually on the hunt to find some new ones." Since.. maybe if he got some more normal hobbies he'd actually have a reason to head to school. And stay there.

A college student? "Oh, Sovereign Heights," she said, setting her cup back down. What she really meant to say was, Oh, you are much older than me. The little fact made Cassius a bit more appealing. Fallon hardly acted like a fifteen year old girl, or dressed like one. She had been shopping at liz claiborne and New York & Company while most of her friends were going on sprees at Hollister and American Eagle. It was a maturity that she thought distinguished her, even if it was merely a product of the extremely controlled lifestyle she believed she had to live.

The idea of getting to make her own schedules with classes that did not happen in one giant lump was appealing. She could even leave campus for lunch! Ah, to be older. She would certainly have much more control over her life then.

Trying not to appear to fawn, Fallon distracted herself by thumbing at the side of her coffee cup. "I'm in several clubs, actually," she piped up, happy to have something to contribute. "I ride for our Equestrian Team, and I'm the secretary of the French Club. I'm also in the Ballroom Dance Club." An idea struck Fallon. "You know, the Ballroom Club is always looking for more boys to participate, especially those Crystal deems well-mannered." She didn't quite ask him to come, and even if she did, it wouldn't be to secure herself her own dance partner. Fallon preferred dancing with the other girls. Still, they did need more boys. That much was plainly obvious.

Fallon seemed to perk up when he mentioned Sovereign Heights. Did that give him some kind of credit to being somewhat better in her mind? He couldn't quite tell- but at least that proved that he did attend somewhere that was in high regards. In all truth, Cassius was actually just using it as another way to waste his father's money. Oh, he loved wasting his daddy's finances while giving his father the impression that he never did anything worthwhile. That was another way Cassius was in control of the situation.

He listened quietly as she gracefully answered his question. My my, she was a busy bee. All of her activities were impressive as hell too. He didn't expect anything less from this girl he had so recently gotten to know. Miss Fallon was quite the lady indeed.

Her last sentence brought about a 'ding' cord in his brain, and he curved his eyebrows seductively and leaned in closer to the table. "So wait, are you yourself deeming me well mannered?" From the beginning of their conversation he expected the complete opposite from her. But now she was inviting him into her life? "Don't get me wrong, that sounds wonderful. I'm just surprised, but happily so." He leaned back again and crossed his arms in a comfortable position. "That might give me something fun and positive to do every once in awhile."

And he was always looking for those sorts of activities.

Fallon propped her elbows up on the table and leaned in toward Cassius. "I'm saying that you appear well-mannered. That is all that matters to them." Then she sat back up and took a matter-of-fact sip of her latte.

It was true. Crystal Academy would take one look at the long-haired, glossy-eyed sweet talker and proclaim him Lord of the Dance. But Fallon didn't want to pad his ego too much. "It helps that they are desperate for more male dance partners," she said, giving her eyes a short roll.

The cafe was getting a little busier, the chime on the door ringing with more frequency. The cold weather brought in a lot more business, and it was nearing lunch breaks for some people. "The club meets Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30." Fallon picked a piece of lint off of her sweater. "If you want to come as a dance partner, you should show up around 5:30 to talk to the instructor. But, like I said, I don't think you'll have much of an issue getting cheered. Our instructor likes compliments." And Cassius certainly was full of them.
