Are you going to stay useless at the Weyr forever, or are you going back to the Hall and Walking the Tables? You don't really have a choice, as you will amount to nothing if you stay where you are
Yulu frowned deeply as she sat in the dining hall, a letter clutched in her white-knuckled hand. Nearby a Green flit lazed in front of the warm fire, her hide chilled from between and the dropping temperatures outside, and next to her a Gold looked down with mild concern. Yulu had sent Hinalle out that morning to High Telgar Hold with another message, trying to learn more about certain issues going on in various places, but the answer she got back from her contact was certainly not the one she would have liked to receive. It didn't even say anything in response to her question, instead posing one of it's own, and Yulu pounded her fist on the table as she crumpled the skin in her hand.
"Sharding good for - ugh, just!"
She even ranted a bit out loud, her rage growing more evident as she kept reading the words on the page, and pretty soon she more than likely would have attracted the eyes of anyone in the room towards her and the two flitts that joined her. The Green was hissing, displeased at being interrupted while warming, while the Gold merely stared with scared eyes.

Tala walked into the dining hall rubbing her hands together trying to warm them from the cold outside. Instantly her ears perked as she heard someone cursing from beside the fire. Looking over she noticed a...Female? Yup on second glance it was a young woman. Deciding to keep to herself for the moment Tala grabbed some food and sat down to watch the fireworks.
She noticed that the young woman had flitts with her as well. Tala's interest peaked as she noticed the small gold sitting near her. Maybe I will say hi...after she stops sharding screaming, Tala thought to herself.

It took a few more minutes before Yulu was actually calm enough to relax and stop shouting, her mood settling with the assistance of Song who came over and placed a paw on one of Yulu's trembling hands. The little one couldn't understand why her person was so upset over something when she normally was always okay, and Song was worried about her person enough that she had stopped worrying over her Green Hinalle.
"I'm fine Song, really. I'm sorry for worrying you, but you should go back in front of the blaze if you're cold. You're not built for this kind of weather just yet."
Her voice was so soft and tender, a far cry from the shouting before, and Yulu let out a sigh as she looked down at her hands before sending her eyes to scan the area. When she turned a bit more to her left she noticed there was another girl looking directly at her.. . .or the flits, and Yulu frowned again.
"What are you looking at?"

Tala motioned with her spoon. "Just those beautiful flitts you have there. Its been a while since I have seen a gold as pretty as that." Smiling slightly she bent to begin eating again. Let her fume if she wanted...Tala thought the flitts were beautiful but didnt want to start anything. She wasn't going to agitate this woman any more than she already was.
"Getting kind of cold out there huh?" Pointing to the flits, "They hungry?"

"I don't think they're hungry as much as they are just cold. This will be the first cold season for both of them, and Song isn't quite heavy enough to really tolerate it. Hinalle isn't mine to worry over, but she's from Song's clutch anyway so I need to watch over her whenever she's around."
Yulu did feel a little happy about the compliment towards Song, though she did her best not to let it go to her head. Many people often believed they could soothe someone's nerves by complimenting something of theirs, and Yulu didn't want this person to think that could be the case.
"Oh, and Song is the Gold, in case you didn't catch the names. Hinalle is the Green, she belongs to L'pin of Blue Shamth. Ever heard of him?"

Tala shook her head. Well that went over well, she thought. "Nope, cant say I have. Only been here a short while. Haven't really made the rounds yet." Munching on her food she got up to take the bowl back to the kitchens. She came back and offered her hand to the girl. "Names Tala. I've met Song and Hinalle...but I didnt catch your name."

"That's because I didn't offer it."
Yulu looked over and away from the girl at the two flitts that were now watching this newcomer with interest, Song's eyes whirling and Hinalle looking as though she were ready to bolt at any minute. Song was mildly upset that her person was being a little standoffish still even though her person had said it was all okay, so Yulu sighed at the emotions and decided to try again.
"Yulu."
She shook the hand offered to her but didn't do much else, like invite this 'Tala' to sit down. If the girl wanted to sit she could sit on her own, but Yulu wasn't going to produce an invitation.

Tala sat with a small spark in her eye. She didn't want to be annoying but she couldn't help but poke a little.
"So..."
Tala rolled her eyes around to look at the dining hall a moment before settling back on the flits.
"Can I ask how you came by those two...or rather how you came by your little queen?"
Might as well start the conversation somewhere...This girl certainly wasn't going to. Looking over at the flitts she noticed that the green one was looking fit to bolt any moment. Best to just calm herself and try not to scare the little one.
"And who is L'pin?"

"Song and Hinalle were given to me by another candidate, and I just happened to only want one egg. I picked Song's egg over Hinalle's because it looked larger and a bit healthier, and I gave the second egg to a random rider. That rider turned out to be L'pin, a man who's generally wingless but for the sake of ranking is called a Sr. Weyrling."
Yulu wiggled one of her fingers slightly as Song made her way back over towards her, the Golden flit using her front paws to grabs the moving digit and hold it. This was something Song had only started to do recently, and Yulu was pretty amused over it.
"If you haven't met L'pin then you're pretty lucky, as it seems like almost all candidates have had a run in with him at least once. A really nice guy, but his dragon is nothing short of a large Wher."

Tala winced. A large Wher...Ouch. Tala watched as the flit came closer to the other girl and grabbed her finger.
"Whats his story? Or is that something I should ask him?" She asked leaning on the table and staring at the fire.

"It'd probably be better if you just avoided him altogether, but if you're still really curious you could probably ask him. L'pin's not a bad guy if you can get him far away from his dragon, but I wouldn't challenge them together. You're likely to not come out of it with clean clothes, if you catch what I'm saying."
Yulu had been fine of course when she met the man and his beast together, but that was odd in and of itself. L'pin looked like he was holding Shamth back for some reason, but she didn't put too much thought into it.
